8 people killed in violence in China's Xinjiang region For more Latest and Breaking News Headlines SUBSCRIBE to https://www.youtube.com/user/ZakWorldNEWS Police shot and killed eight people who attacked a police station in Xinjiang, a restive region in northwestern China, authorities said Monday. Nine people armed with knives threw explosives at the building and set police cars on fire, the Xinjiang government said on its official news website. One of the people was taken into custody, the statement said, describing the attackers as "thugs." The violence took place around 6:30 a.m. in Yarkant County in western Xinjiang and is under investigation, authorities said. It's the latest outbreak of deadly unrest in Xinjiang, a large, resource-rich region that is home to the Uyghurs, a Turkic-speaking, predominantly Muslim ethnic group. Earlier this month, a clash in the region left 14 Uyghurs and two police officers dead, authorities said. Chinese officials said the two police officers came under attack as they were trying to apprehend suspects. The arrival in Xinjiang of waves of Han Chinese people over the decades has fueled tensions with the Uyghurs. Chinese authorities have cracked down heavily on violence involving Uyghurs, deepening resentment. The government statement about Monday's clash didn't specify the ethnicity of the people who fought with police. The details of violent encounters in Xinjiang often remain murky. Uyghur diaspora groups, like the World Uyghur Congress, have criticized the Chinese government for the lack of transparency over such events. Chinese authorities have blamed Uyghurs for a vehicle attack in Beijing's Tiananmen Square in October that killed five people -- including the three in the vehicle -- and wounded 40 others. Xinjiang's worst violence in decades took place in July 2009, when rioting in the capital, Urumqi, between Uyghurs and Han Chinese killed some 200 people and injured 1,700. That unrest was followed by a crackdown by security forces. 3 People Killed In Central African Republic Violence

3 People Killed In Central African Republic Violence
At least three people have died as residents threw grenades and torched homes in clashes between supporters of the Seleka and anti-Balaka in Central African Republic's capital, witnesses said. French and African troops deployed in the country have struggled to stop the tit-for-tat violence between the mainly Muslim Seleka, who seized power in March, and predominantly Christian anti-Balaka, meaning "anti-machete", fighters, that killed more than 1,000 people in December. Residents of Bangui said on Wednesday that Seleka fighters wearing civilian clothes threw grenades at the houses of people thought to be Christian, in a northern district of the city. Christian youths then launched reprisal attacks, burning the nearby homes of people thought to be Muslim. "The Muslims came and set fire to the houses," said Aristide Yenga, resident of the Ngou Simon neighbourhood in the north of the capital Bangui. "Everyone was affected. "This morning they began shooting and when we heard that we left for the larger [displaced persons'] camps." The body of a Seleka fighter with his left hand severed off and missing lay in the middle of a large dirt avenue following the attacks, a witness told Reuters news agency. A resident of the neighbourhood who asked not to be named said that two other Muslims had been killed there overnight. No peacekeepers were present, although a French helicopter flew overhead, the witness told Reuters. The incidents occurred in the city's fifth district which houses both Muslims and Christians and where heavy artillery battles took place the previous two nights. Thousands displaced Meanwhile, more than 100,000 people displaced by inter-religious violence in Central African Republic are sheltering at a makeshift camp at Bangui airport, a medical charity has said, calling for urgent aid. Medecins Sans Frontiers (MSF) said it was receiving between 15 and 20 wounded a day at the site from fighting in the riverside capital, where the deployment of French and African peacekeepers in early December has failed to halt violence. MSF said the airport camp, which stretches for kilometres beside the runway, lacked proper sanitation as well as supplies of food and water as UN agencies have failed to keep pace with the scale of the problem. "If nothing is done in the next two weeks there is a risk of an epidemic breaking out," said Lindis Hurum, MSF coordinator at the airport camp. "MSF demands an increase in the emergency actions being taken by humanitarian agencies." Without proper infrastructure at the camp, thousands of families are sheltering from the tropical sun under cardboard boxes or makeshift tents made of blankets tied to sticks. Despite the conditions, a spike in violence in recent weeks has driven tens of thousands of people to airport, which is patrolled by Burundian soldiers from the African Union peacekeeping force (MISCA) and lies next to a French military base. The United Nations launched an appeal on Friday for $152m to help meet emergency humanitarian needs such as drinking water and sanitation in makeshift camps in the former French colony. It estimates that more than 800,000 people are displaced across the country as a whole.

300 people have been killed in two days of violence in the capital of the CAR
'Hundreds dead' in Central African Republic violence At least 300 people have been killed in two days of violence in the capital of the Central African Republic, says the Red Cross. For more Latest and Breaking News Headlines SUBSCRIBE to https://www.youtube.com/user/ZakWorldNEWS The organisation said its staff stopped collecting bodies in Bangui as night fell but would resume over the weekend, and expected the toll to rise. Violence in the CAR has raised fears of mass killings along sectarian lines. Hundreds of French troops are arriving in the city as part of a UN effort to restore law and order. France was hoping to have around 1,000 troops - doubling its current force - in the CAR by Friday evening. It followed a UN Security Council vote to allow French troops to join an African peacekeeping force in the CAR. Thursday's violence is thought to have begun when Christian militias, loyal to the CAR's ousted President Francois Bozize, launched multiple attacks from the north - sparking retaliatory attacks from mainly Muslim armed fighters loyal to the new leadership. Residents spoke of gun battles in their neighbourhoods and hundreds fled to the airport seeking the protection of some of the French troops based there. Dozens of bodies were reported to have been left lying in the roads, in areas too dangerous for people to collect them. The Red Cross' president in the CAR, Pastor Antoine Mbao Bogo, said his staff had collected 281 bodies as of Friday night and expected the number to rise significantly when they resume their work. "Tomorrow is going to be a monster of a day. We're going to work tomorrow and I think we're going to need a fourth day too," he told Reuters news agency. French soldiers were out on patrol on Friday and warplanes flew over Bangui in an attempt to quell two days of violence. Christian Mukosa of Amnesty International said the capital was "effectively in shutdown" with doctors unable to get to hospitals to treat the dying and injured because of the insecurity. Michel Djotodia, who ousted Mr Bozize in March, installed himself as the first Muslim leader in the Christian-majority country. The mainly Muslim Seleka rebel coalition which brought him to power has been accused of atrocities against Christians. Christian communities have now set up "anti-balaka" self-defence forces, most of them loyal to Mr Bozize. "Balaka" means machete in the local Sango and Mandja languages. The Selekas have been officially disbanded and some of them integrated into the army, but correspondents say it is often not clear who is in charge, even in the capital. 5 People Killed In Libyan Violence

5 People Killed In Libyan Violence
At least five people have been killed in clashes between the Libyan army and an Islamist militia in the restive city of Benghazi, officials say. Gunfire could be heard from the early hours of the morning and smoke was seen rising in part of the city. Casualties were reported among both the army and Ansar al-Sharia, an armed Islamist group suspected of killing US ambassador Christopher Stevens in 2012. The government has struggled to contain militias in control of parts of Libya. Ten days ago, Prime Minister Ali Zeidan called on all militias to leave the capital, Tripoli, after fatal clashes between militiamen and protesters. The militias took part in the uprising that led to the fall of Col Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 but have been told by the interim government to disband or join the army by the end of the year. Reports from Libya's second city early on Monday spoke of explosions and gunfire in the Fwaihat area. The fighting erupted after a civilian was stopped at a checkpoint manned by Ansar al-Sharia because he was carrying a weapon, a military source told the BBC. The man was allegedly beaten, prompting a special forces unit to move in. A doctor at Jala hospital told the BBC that five people had been killed and another 30 were wounded. Several civilians were said to be among those hurt. Heavy but intermittent clashes began at about 02:00 local time (midnight GMT) and were still going on by mid-morning in various areas of the city. "This is the end of Ansar al-Sharia," a military source told the BBC. The army has been driving around Benghazi urging residents to stay at home. Schools are said to be closed. Benghazi, one of Libya's most volatile areas, was where the uprising of Col Gaddafi began. It was also where the US ambassador and three other Americans were killed in an attack on the US consulate on 11 September 2012. Ansar al-Sharia, which is believed to have ties with foreign Islamist groups, has been linked to a series of attacks in eastern Libya. Several Islamist groups have formed from the anti-Gaddafi rebels and they have been blamed for recent murders in nearby Derna. A judge, two traffic police and a tribal chief have died in the port city east of Benghazi in just over a week. Last month, Prime Minister Zeidan was abducted and held for several hours by militiamen in a Tripoli hotel. After talks in London on Sunday with US Secretary of State John Kerry and UK Foreign Minister William Hague, Mr Zeidan said Libya had done a great deal "to get rid of the militias". Mr Kerry told reporters that Libya had gone through great turmoil, particularly in recent weeks, but spoke of a moment of opportunity. "The prime minister informed us of a transformation that he believes is beginning to take place and could take place because the people of Libya have spoken out and pushed back against the militias," he said.

At Least 13 Killed in Bangladesh Election Violence
At Least 13 Killed in Bangladesh Election Violence For more Latest and Breaking News Headlines SUBSCRIBE to https://www.youtube.com/user/ZakWorldNEWS Police in Bangladesh fired at protesters and opposition activists torched more than 100 polling stations Sunday during a national election boycotted by the opposition and described as flawed by the international community. At least 13 people were killed in election-related violence. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's refusal to heed opposition demands to step down and appoint a neutral caretaker to oversee the election led to the boycott, undermining the legitimacy of the vote. Opposition activists have staged attacks, strikes and transportation blockades in unrest that has left at least 288 people dead since last year. "We never expected such an election," said Aminul Islam, a resident of the capital, Dhaka, who refused to vote. "For such a situation, both the government and opposition are responsible. They don't want to establish democracy." Voter turnout appeared low, though official numbers were not immediately known. In a statement, opposition spokesman Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir praised Bangladeshis for "rejecting this meaningless" election. Police opened fire to stop protesters from seizing a polling center in the country's northern Rangpur district, killing two people, authorities said. In a similar incident in neighboring Nilphamari district, police fired into about two dozen protesters, killing two people. Police gave no further details, but Dhaka's Daily Star newspaper said the four men who were killed belonged to the opposition Jamaat-e-Islami party. Another nine people were killed in election-related violence elsewhere, including a polling official who was stabbed to death by suspected opposition activists, police said. Local media reported that attackers torched at least 127 school buildings across Bangladesh in overnight attacks. The buildings were to be used as polling stations. By midmorning Sunday, voting was suspended at least 149 polling centers because of attacks, the Election Commission said. The opposition boycott led to 153 of Parliament's 300 elected seats going uncontested. The European Union, the United States and the British Commonwealth did not send observers for what they considered a flawed election. U.S. State Department deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf said that Washington was disappointed that the major political parties had not reached a consensus on a way to hold free, fair and credible elections. Local television stations showed mostly empty polling stations in the morning, though turnout seemed to improve in the afternoon. At a polling station in Dhaka's Mirpur district, only 25 out of 24,000 registered voters cast ballots in the first two hours, with polling officials saying fear of violence and absence of any strong opposition had kept people away. Turnout was better in Nawabganj district in old Dhaka. At one polling center there about an hour before polls closed, 1,039 voters had cast ballots out of the 3,500 listed. "I've come to exercise my voting right. I've found a competent candidate too," Mohammad Asif, a hotel employee, said after casting his vote in Nawabganj. Analysts say the political chaos could exacerbate economic woes in this deeply impoverished country of 160 million and lead to radicalization in a strategic pocket of South Asia. 16 People Killed After Violence In Xinjiang

16 People Killed After Violence In Xinjiang
Sixteen people have been killed in violence in China's western region of Xinjiang, a state news portal says. The incident took place late on Sunday in a village near the city of Kashgar. The government-run regional news portal said police trying to make arrests were attacked by people armed with explosive devices and knives. Police shot dead 14 people, with two policemen also killed. Xinjiang, home to the Muslim Uighur minority group, sees sporadic clashes. The government traditionally blames extremists for the violence, while Uighur activists point to ethnic tensions and tight Chinese control as triggers for violence. Verifying reports from the region is difficult because the information flow out of Xinjiang is tightly controlled. The report, on the official Tianshan news portal, said two people were also arrested. Last month, state media reported nine civilians and two police were killed in an attack on a police station near Kashgar. In late October, five people were killed when a car ploughed into a crowd and then burst into flames in Beijing's Tiananmen Square. Beijing called the incident a terrorist attack inspired by Xinjiang-linked extremists. Three people who died inside the car were identified by police as Xinjiang Uighurs.

4 People Killed In DR Congo National Park Violence

4 People Killed In DR Congo National Park Violence
Four people were killed and two seriously injured in a clash between national park rangers and suspected Rwandan rebels in the war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo, the park said. The Virunga national park, home to DR Congo's only population of endangered mountain gorillas, said one of its rangers died in a battle on Saturday morning that also claimed the lives of three rebel fighters. Two other guards were wounded and one rebel was captured. Virunga said in a statement that the Sunday clash was with the FDLR, a Rwandan rebel group that includes the remnants of the militia who carried out the 1994 genocide. "The attack is thought to have been carried out in retaliation against the rangers' efforts to prevent the militias from regaining control of an area close to the habitat of the critically endangered mountain gorillas," the park said. Virunga national park, a UNESCO world heritage site, was founded in 1925, making it Africa's oldest national park. It is the most environmentally diverse area on the African continent, home to thousands of rhinos and 200 endangered mountain gorillas.

New violence in Iraq kills at least 31 people

New violence in Iraq kills at least 31 people
At least 31 people have been killed in a fresh wave of violence, including bombings and gun attacks, across Iraq. Six people were killed on Thursday when car bombings rocked several cities in Babil province. A car bomb went off near a police checkpoint in the city of Samarra in Salaheddin province, killing three police officers and wounding two others. Several car bombings hit other cities in Salaheddin province as well as Wasit province, killing six people and wounding 15 others. Moreover, gunmen shot and killed six people including two civilians in Salaheddin. At least six people were killed after a series of bombings hit the capital Baghdad. In the northern city of Mosul, four people lost their lives in shootings. The attacks took to more than 600 the number of people killed in November across Iraq, according to reports. No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but al-Qaeda-linked militants often carry out the acts of terror. On October 23, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki warned that Iraq is facing a "war of genocide." "It has become clear... that Iraq is subjected to a war of genocide targeting all of its components," the Iraqi premier said. He blamed the al-Qaeda militant group for killing thousands of people in Iraq, saying that the group is "destroying the houses of citizens and killing them, and blowing up government departments." Data released by Iraq's ministries of Health, Interior and Defense on November 1 showed that violence in the Arab country killed 964 people and injured 1,600 others in October alone.
