BBC East Midlands is the BBC English Region covering Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland.

BBC East Midlands's television output consists of the flagship regional news service East Midlands Today, the topical magazine programme Inside Out and a 20-minute opt-out during Sunday Politics. A football magazine show, Late Kick Off, is co-produced with BBC Midlands.

The television area is bigger than the region's radio area, because of the coverage from Waltham over Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire. In reality, Radio Leicester covers much the same area as TV reception from Waltham, including all of Northamptonshire.

The region is the controlling centre for BBC Radio Nottingham, BBC Radio Derby and BBC Radio Leicester.

On weekdays, the three stations carry local programming between 6am and 7pm before joining together for a regional evening show presented by Richard Spurr. The weekday 'Late Show' presented by Amanda Bowman, produced from Nottingham from Sunday to Thursday, is also simulcast with stations in the BBC Midlands region (which now includes BBC WM) between 10pm and closedown at 1am.

The East Midlands is one of the regions of England, consisting of most of the eastern half of the traditional region of the Midlands. It encompasses the combined area of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Northamptonshire and most of Lincolnshire.

A looser definition of the East Midlands might also include the City of Peterborough (once part of Northamptonshire, but now Cambridgeshire), and North Lincolnshire.^{[citation needed]}

The highest point in the region is Kinder Scout in the Peak District, at 2,088 ft (636 m). The centre of the East Midlands area lies roughly between Bingham and Bottesford. The geographical centre of England lies in Higham on the Hill in west Leicestershire, close to the boundary between the East and West Midlands. 88% of the land is rural, although agriculture accounts for less than three percent of the region's jobs. All of the coastline within the region falls within Lincolnshire.

The region is home to large quantities of limestone, and the East Midlands Oil Province. Charnwood Forest is noted for its abundant levels of volcanic rock, estimated to be approximately 600 million years old.

Susan Georgina "Su" Pollard, (born 7 November 1949, Nottingham) is an English comedy actress and singer, most famous for her roles in the sitcoms Hi-de-Hi! and You Rang, M'Lord?. As a singer, she scored a UK No.2 hit with the song "Starting Together" in 1986. She is also well known for her unusual and flamboyant dress sense and her abrupt voice.

Pollard was born the eldest daughter of Don and Hilda Pollard, and she is a supporter of Nottingham Forest. Pollard's interest in acting began at the age of six when she played an angel in a school nativity play, and at the age of 16 she began singing in working men's clubs and charity shows. Following an apprenticeship at the Arts Theatre in Nottingham, Pollard appeared on Opportunity Knocks in 1974 singing "I Cain't Say No" from Oklahoma! and came second to a singing Jack Russell. Pollard started appearing in many West End musicals including Godspell, Big Sin City, Grease and Oh, Mr Porter!.

In 1979, Pollard was chosen by the BBC to play Flo in a new sitcom called Two Up, Two Down with Paul Nicholas. However, this lasted only one series. The following year, Pollard landed the role of chalet maid Peggy Ollerenshaw in Hi-de-Hi!. She continued in this role until the programme's end in 1988, by which time she had become a household name.

Izaak Walton (9 August 1593 – 15 December 1683) was an English writer. Best known as the author of The Compleat Angler, he also wrote a number of short biographies that have been collected under the title of Walton's Lives.

Walton was born at Stafford; the register of his baptism gives his father's name as Gervase. His father, who was an innkeeper as well as a landlord of a tavern, died before Izaak was three. His mother then married another innkeeper by the name of Bourne, who would later run the Swan in Stafford.

He settled in London where he began trading as an ironmonger in a small shop in the upper story of Thomas Gresham's Royal Burse or Exchange in Cornhill. In 1614 he had a shop in Fleet Street, two doors west of Chancery Lane in the parish of St Dunstan's. At about this time he became friendly with Dr John Donne, then vicar of the parish church.

Walton's first wife was Rachel Floud (married December 1626), a great-great-niece of Archbishop Cranmer. She died in 1640. He married again soon after, his second wife being Anne Ken (1646–1662); the pastoral Kenna of The Angler's Wish; stepsister of Thomas Ken, afterwards bishop of Bath and Wells.
