Irony as Warmist Climate Scientist is Trapped in Sea Ice
Irony as Warmist Climate Scientist is Trapped in Sea Ice
The University of New South Wales's Antarctic Propaganda Expedition has been bungled as their top Global Warming / Climate Change Scientist Professor Chris Turney is trapped in (supposedly non-existent) Antarctic Summer sea ice. After getting stuck Turney was quoted as saying; "We are stuck in our own excrement". Prof Turney organised the trip to "Assess the impact of human-caused Global Warming in the Antarctic" by re-tracing the voyage of Mawson, made in 1912 to Commonwealth Bay in the Antarctic. Mawson sailed there in 1912 in open waters, yet warmist Prof Turney is stuck fast in 4 meter thick sea ice. Now we know how the supposed 'human-caused global warming' is affecting Antarctica; - its a hell of a lot colder and there is a hell of a lot more ice now than when Mawson was there in 1912. This propaganda exercise was funded by the BBC, Australia's ABC and the Guardian newspaper; since the scientists and activists got stuck on Christmas Eve, it has been hardly mentioned in these media sources or in other mainstream media. All reference to the real reason for the expedition has been deleted and it has now been re-badged as a 'cruise'. Amazingly, warmist Prof Turney thinks its still not cold enough, quote; "The inevitable conclusion (from our research) is emission targets (of 80% in the EU) will have to be lowered further still." Maybe he wants the ice to be over his head as well as under his feet? I wonder just why anyone is still listening to these fraudsters??? Expedition to Mawson's Huts: a journey into Antarctica Subscribe to the Guardian HERE: http://bitly.com/UvkFpD After two weeks at sea on board the Akademik Shokalskiy, Alok Jha finally steps foot on the frozen continent to visit an historic icon of Antarctic exploration - Sir Douglas Mawson's huts at Cape Denison on Commonwealth Bay. After an arduous journey across 65km of ice, he arrives to a century-old snapshot of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition, where scientists and explorers set up their base camp - now frozen in time - to discover a new continent Click here for more on the Guardian Antarctica expedition: http://www.theguardian.com/science/antarctica-live/video/2013/dec/25/mawsons-huts-journey-antarctica-video- published: 27 Dec 2013

Getting to Mawson's Hut
Getting to Mawson's Hut
The Australasian Antarctic Expedition 2013-2014 made it to Mawson's Antarctic Hut at Cape Denison yesterday! Two years of planning and four weeks into the expedition, we set out yesterday at 0630 as a team of six. Using all terrain vehicles known as Argos we drove 65 kilometres over sea ice -- capping half a kilometre of ocean water below -- and forged a route across an uncharted icescape. The team spirit was brilliant and after several breaks and a few challenges, we reached our goal shortly before noon. Over the Moon!- published: 20 Dec 2013

Mawson voyage facing tough scrutiny after passengers required rescuing
DEBATE rages over the merits of the scientific expedition which sparked a major rescue operation in Antarctica as an American icebreaker races to free two ships with more than 120 people aboard caught in sea ice near Commonwealth Bay. The Polar Star cut short its stay in Sydney to go to the aid of Russian tourist ship Akademik Shokalskiy and the Chinese icebreaker Xue Long. The Akademik Shokalskiy was trapped by sea ice on Christmas Day and the Xue Long became stuck during last week's operation to evacuate tourists and scientists from the ship. The Russian ship was retracing the steps of Sir Douglas Mawson's Australasian Antarctic expedition when it became stuck. A helicopter from the Chinese ship transferred 52 people from the Akademik Shokalskiy to the Australian icebreaker Aurora Australis on Thursday. They are now en route to Casey station. Director of the French Polar Institute, Yves Frenot, at the weekend described the Russian trip as a "pseudo-scientific expedition" which had caused massive disruption to the science programs of three nations. "This kind of commemorative expedition has no interest from a scientific point of view," he said. Because of the rescue operations, French scientists had to scrap a two-week oceanographic journey aboard the MV Astrolabe and further disruption had been caused to the Australian program. "The Chinese have had to cancel all their scientific program, and my counterpart in Australia is spitting tacks with anger, because their entire summer has been wiped out." But Spirit of Mawson expedition leader Professor Chris Turney hit back, saying they were frustrated over "what appears to be a misrepresentation of the expedition in some news outlets". "We have been accused of being a tourist trip with little scientific value," he wrote. But he said the expedition was not a "jolly tourist trip" as some had claimed, and that it will be judged by its peer-reviewed publications on the scientists' return. There are 101 crew members, scientists and journalists aboard Xue Long and 22 Russian crew members remain aboard the Akademik Shokalskiy. The Sue Long's captain Wang Jianzhong told Xinhua news agency the ship had been surrounded by ice due to lasting strong winds in the past days, with the thickest layer reaching three to four metres. Spirit of Mawson Expedition doctor Andrew Peacock said there was no little irony in a ship with climate scientists aboard getting caught in ice. "Of course it is ironic if people are basing their thoughts on this with the idea that there was more ice than 'normal' or that there had been a change in this area with regard to more ice forming because the climate was colder this season," he said. Dr Peacock said the ice was unexpectedly thick and previous charts had shown rafted old pack ice to be well away from the area they were travelling in.- published: 06 Jan 2014

Chris Turney: In the Footsteps of Mawson
This video is a short highlight. Watch the full session on the Big Ideas website: http://www.abc.net.au/tv/bigideas/stories/2013/08/05/3817179.htm Douglas Mawson was a great Antarctic explorer who travelled across that vast icy wilderness between 1911 and 1914. He was one of a rare breed and his expedition was like the Edwardian equivalent of space travel. These Antarctic explorers who explored these icy wastes at the beginning of the 20th century were seriously extraordinary blokes. And now, 100 years later, Professor Chris Turney from the UNSW Climate Change Research Centre, is putting together an expedition to follow in Mawson's footsteps and he delivers this presentation here at the University of New South Wales. His expedition will be 'monitoring the health of the planet' to gauge the changes since Mawson's time. They'll be repeating the measurements made by Mawson's team - with observations of the ocean, wildlife, weather, geology and ice cover.- published: 06 Aug 2013
