Would somebody please stop the Melbourne Stars in this season's Big Bash?

THE Melbourne Stars have too many stars, who are too frickin' awesome too much of the time.

They're so unfailingly entertaining that it has actually become boring. There's no suspense anymore, no drama, not even the faintest risk that they could actually lose a game.

In fact, the Stars won all eight of their regular season matches this season, and the other Big Bash teams are clearly frustrated. Hobart Hurricanes wicketkeeper Tim Paine, who has to face the Stars in tonight's semi-final, has been forced to apologise after suggesting his opponents were playing under "another set of rules".

"There's obviously a never-ending salary cap there that the Stars seem to run by," he told Radio SEN last week.

Tim went a bit overboard, but you can understand his irritation. While teams like Hobart struggle through life with decent state players such as Evan Gulbis and Cameron Boyce, the Stars boast a line-up including Cameron White, Brad Hodge, David Hussey, Clint McKay, Glenn Maxwell, Matt Wade, John Hastings, James Muirhead, Luke Wright and Lasith Malinga.

Those guys are ALL world class T20 players. Six of them just competed in the international series between Australia and England. No other Big Bash team can come close to matching that sort of talent.

That's why Melbourne can't be allowed to win this competition. T20 cricket is supposed to be wild and unpredictable, but this year the results have been as monotonous as those in a Test series against Bangladesh.

You can throw as many massive sixes, sideline dancers and modern music tracks into the Big Bash as you like. The one thing that really makes sport exciting is the suspense. If you know who's going to win before either team takes the field, there's no point watching.

Of course, the Stars have choked in the last two editions of the Big Bash finals. So there's always a sliver of hope.

Of course, this writer could just be as green as a Melbourne Stars shirt with envy. Tell us who YOU want to win the Big Bash on Twitter: @newscomauHQ | @SamClench
