PORT Adelaide ruckman Jarrad Redden will miss the start of the AFL premiership season after exploratory knee surgery this week revealed a medial strain to the joint.
Redden, 23, will be sidelined for at least the next eight weeks leaving Matthew Lobbe to stand as the Power's No. 1 ruckman.
Arthroscopic surgery was ordered for Redden after he noted repeated pain in a knee during the Power's pre-season training campaign. But the result was more dramatic than Port expected.
Power coach Ken Hinkley said today surgery was immediately ordered to "get Jarrad right so he can play as much football as possible in the 2014 season."
Port's pre-season playing program opens on Saturday with a trial against the SANFL-based Magpies. Hinkley has lost Redden for this workout and will rest Jackson Trengove (knee), Hamish Hartlett (shoulder) and Kane Mitchell (groin).
