Roy Anderson Butler (March 31, 1926 – November 13, 2009) was an American politician and businessman, who served as the Mayor of Austin, Texas, from 1971 until 1975.
Butler was the first Mayor of Austin to be directly elected by city voters. Prior to Butler's election in 1971, Austin's mayors were chosen and appointed by the Austin City Council.
Roy Butler was a native of Greenville, Texas, where he was born on March 31, 1926. He was the only child of his mother, a homemaker, and his father, an officer in the United States Army.
Butler served in the United States Navy during World War II. Following his departure from the U.S. Navy, Butler earned his bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Texas in 1948. He attended the University of Texas School of Law for three years, but left school before earning his law degree in order to join the automobile business.
He met his future wife, Ann Showers, on a blind date while at the University of Texas. The couple married six months later.
Butler was described as a close friend of former United States President Lyndon B. Johnson.
Brandon Dawayne Roy (born July 23, 1984) is a retired American professional basketball player who played for the Portland Trail Blazers of the National Basketball Association. He was selected sixth in the 2006 NBA Draft, having completed four years playing for the Washington Huskies. In 2009, he served as the team's co-captain, along with LaMarcus Aldridge. His nickname was "B-Roy", but he was also referred to as "The Natural" by announcer Brian Wheeler. On December 10, 2011, Roy announced his retirement from basketball due to a degenerative knee condition.
Born in Seattle, Washington, Roy became known for his immediate impact on the Trail Blazers.Zach Randolph, then the team captain, was traded to the New York Knicks at the end of Roy's first season, which cleared the way for Roy to take on a leadership role on the team. Though hampered by an injured ankle, Roy won the NBA Rookie of the Year Award for 2006–07 in a near-unanimous vote. He played 57 games as a rookie and averaged 16.8 points per game in the 2006–07 season. He was selected as a reserve to the 2008 NBA All-Star Game, the 2009 NBA All-Star Game, and the 2010 NBA All-Star Game. Roy played the most minutes of any Western Conference player, and tied for the most points in the West in the 2008 game, and he played the most minutes of any player during the 2009 game.
Harry Roy (12 January 1900 – 1 February 1971) was a British dance band leader and clarinet player from the 1920s until the 1960s.
He was born Harry Lipman in Stamford Hill, London, England, and began to study clarinet and alto saxophone at the age of 16. He and his brother Sidney formed a band which they called The Darnswells, with Harry playing saxophone and clarinet and Sidney on piano. During the 1920s they performed in several prestige venues such as the Alhambra and the London Coliseum, under names such as the Original Lyrical Five and the Original Crichton Lyricals. They spent three years at the Café de Paris, and toured South Africa, Australia, and Germany. By the early '30s Harry was fronting the band under his own name, and broadcasting from the Café Anglais and the Mayfair Hotel. In 1931 he wrote and sang "My Girl's Pussy", which has since been the subject of many covers and remakes. In 1935 he married Elizabeth Brooke, daughter of the white Rajah of Sarawak, with whom he appeared in two musical films, Rhythm Racketeer (1937) and Everything Is Rhythm (1940).
