Settled in 1753, Putney remains to this day a lively rural community where travelers are welcome, where writers, artists and crafts people have traditionally found inspiration and support. Sacketts Brook (with it’s stone arch bridge), once turned a dozen water wheels on its boisterous descent to the Connecticut River,  flows right through the heart of the village where now you’ll find an small and eclectic collection of shops, restaurants, the Putney General store, Basketville, the Putney COOP and more. From there, Putney’s back roads lead to unspoiled country made for hiking, biking, perhaps a dip in the many swimming holes.
