HEATED Hearing: Toronto Mayor Rob Ford Admits Buying Illegal Drugs in 'Crack House'
Rob Ford admits to buying illegal drugs as mayor, 'threatens' city councillor during ugly debate on his future. (National Post) Minutes after a schoolyard confrontation on the floor of Toronto's city council, Mayor Rob Ford was forced to admit to buying illegal drugs over the last two years, while at the same time he said he "absolutely" had zero-tolerance for drugs, guns and gangs. The mayor was accused of physically "threatening," Denzil Minnan-Wong, the councillor who is pushing forward a motion calling on him to step down. Not long afterwards, Mr. Minnan-Wong asked the mayor "have you purchased drugs in the last two years?" After a long silence, the mayor answered: "Yes, I have." The developments came as city council debated Minnan-Wong's motion to ask Ford to step aside and deal with his problems after he admitted to smoking crack cocaine while in a "drunken stupor." He also admitted to the existence of the notorious video, that police say they now have in their possession. Meanwhile, a judge has ordered the release of redacted documents related to the drug arrest of Ford's friend and a police investigation into the Ford video. In a further insult to the mayor, the organizers of the Santa Claus Parade formally asked him not to participate this year. They asked him to be a "spectator" and said he'd be a "distraction." After months of controversy and little comment from Ford, city councillors relished the opportunity to directly question the mayor. Councillor Michael Thompson asked the mayor about the infamous picture of him in front of 15 Windsor, which police have described as a crack house. "That is not a crack house. It is a house with a family, with a father and a mother, three sons, and daughter," Ford argued. "Have you ever been in that house?" the mayor asked Mr. Thompson. "I have no interest being in that house. I'm not a crack user," Mr. Thompson shot back. Of the three young men in the picture with Ford, one has been killed and the other two have been arrested. "I am not part of gang bangers. I met those people once and I have never seen them again," Ford said. Mayor Ford also said he was "not an addict," a week after admitting to smoking crack cocaine while in a "drunken stupor." "I am not an alcoholic, I am not a drug addict," he said. Ford was also asked why he is refusing to speak with police and he repeatedly said he wasn't because his lawyer had told him not to.- published: 13 Nov 2013

North Korea Antonio Inoki arrives in Pyongyang
Opposition lawmaker Antonio Inoki has arrived in Pyongyang for his second visit to North Korea in about two months, the country's state-run Korean Central News Agency reported. During his stay from Monday through Thursday, Inoki, a member of the House of Councillors, is slated to hold meetings with senior North Korean officials including those of the Workers' Party of Korea. Attention will be paid to how the North Korean officials will refer to the execution last month of Jang Song Thaek, uncle of the country's leader, Kim Jong Un. Inoki met with Jang during his previous trip to North Korea in November last year. Inoki, who belongs to Nippon Ishin no Kai (Japan Restoration Party), and the North Korean officials are expected to exchange views on proposals from Inoki's side to send a mission of Japanese lawmakers to North Korea. Public Lecture Video (1. 9. 2014) Michael Cucek: Abe Shinzo one year on: what have we learned?
Japan's politics will likely enter the New Years in a highly enervated state. Effort to sell the Official Secrets Act floundered, requiring humiliating negotiations with the opposition ending in a dictatorial denouement to screams of protest. The Supreme Court declared the map of electoral districts crafted to defeat constitutional challenge unfair -- guaranteeing continued strife over the issue. Meanwhile, another set of cases challenging the constitutionality of the House of Councillors election wend their way to the Supreme Court. Relations with China and South Korea are at their lowest ebb in memory, with China pursuing what seems an inexorable escalation toward open conflict. Should the Prime Minister make good on hints in the direction of a visit toYasukuni, the publics of South Korea and China will erupt. As for a revival of the economy, median incomes need to rise, meaning the corporate sector has to be more adventurous and generous. For international investors to continue to have faith in Abenomics, they must see meaningful Third Arrow structural reforms. With the Administration's recent all-consuming focus on security, the economic program seems to have been relegated to the back burner. The Abe Administration has nevertheless had a remarkable run of good fortune and smart decisions. It has reason to feel proud of itself and its leaders still exude a stunning sense of confidence. What are the Abe Cabinet's and ruling party's plans for 2014? Will they have a have the political momentum and maintain the internal cohesion necessary to achieve them in a meaningful way?- published: 21 Jan 2014

Run Down Aberdeen Trailer
"Run Down Aberdeen" investigates the perceived decline in the city of Aberdeen, how it came about and how certain initiatives which are being brought forth by the City Council will affect this, the city's assets and the city's population.
Aberdeen is at the centre of the European Oil Industry with the highest proportion of millionaires, highest average wage and highest house and rental prices in Scotland. However, on the other side of the equation is a city with areas of multiple deprivation, insufficient infrastructure for the heavy industry it supports and a City Council with a £150 Million deficit.
Featuring interviews with local councillors, MPs, Writers and Aberdonians investigating the reactions to the City's current condition and details of certain developments within the city which appear to be pushing towards privitization, commercialisation and a bias towards the desires of the city's business community at the expense of the city's citizens.

English Freeman Standing In Court - Gloucester Court 29th Jan 2010 - Part 1
The day started with myself and Captain Scarlet meeting up with Pigdogs partner Muchly jip and heading into the city centre to meet Rebel leader and the others.
Settling at costas for coffees, we went through our paperwork and just chatted about our strategy, Pigdog arrived and we made sure we were all set for the fun ahead!
The hearing was at 11.30am so just before 11am we all started to make our way to the Magistrates court which was a short walk from the coffee house.
On our way down we met up with some more freedom rebels (Greame, Pippa and Cossask) who said they had already been down to the courts and were asked if they were there for the demonstration! We were amazed!
We decided to go into the courts in small groups with myself going in with Rebel leader and Nutty Norm as the last group.
When we got in we were told that we would be seen by a council official before going into the court room.
At 11.30am we put in a NOUICOR and told them that they had 30mins to rebut, then we waited to find out when we were going to get to meet with the council official,
We were then surprised when 4 police men/women came in, stab vest and utility belts strapped, giving us all the eye and grinning.
Just before 11.30am we were called into the court room, we made our way through the show of force and, having no fear we thanked them for their presence.
On entering the court room RL asked if we would get a fair hearing under common law? He was assured that we would, we entered the court room and stood at the back saying we were quite comfortable and could see and hear fine.
RL asked if we could see the magistrates oath, they we're not happy with this and started grumbling that they did not want to go down this line of questioning, it was with this that the clerk of justices said that we should take his word for it! RL said that if we could just see the oaths we could proceed with the matter and settle it, at this the Magistrates got up and left! When asked if they were coming back the clerk said yes and scurried off, as a consequence the council representative was left in the court room with twelve freedom rebels!!!!
We asked why we hadn't received the courtesy of a meeting with the council official before we went into court .and the councillor, Mr Deveraux, turned round and said we did not have the meeting before the hearing because we have already heard of you! At this time he was looking rather flustered and alone and it was to his obvious relief the magistrates came back, the call to rise went out and we all stayed as we were.
The magistrates said “We are going to carry on with the proceedings”, trying to ignore us, but RL continued to ask for their oath of office. Once again the magistrates got up and left the court!!! We asked if the ship had been abandoned and again the clerk said “No” and scurried off.
Again they came back by which time we had asked one of the officers out side to come into the court room in case we needed to make an arrest (he he)!
The magistrates again tried ignore us saying “If Mr Gxxxxxxx would stop interrupting” ( we all quietly laughed as they had just called RL Mr Gxxxxxxx! I don't remember marrying him!) “we can proceed!” and then went straight to Mr Devreaux who proceeded to go through claims made against my legal fiction, he also stated that he had signed the summons! LIES!
Nutty norm informed the magistrates that payments had been made which flustered Mr Deveraux, at which point he said yes but not with cash.
The magistrates asked Mr Deveraux about this he replied that he had had a direct debit slip sent into him a4v'd, but he was saying that this is not a remittance slip (well what is it then?) and that he had replied by refusing this! Nutty norm pointed out that they should look up the bills of exchange act on this matter, and the magistrates turned to Mr deveraux saying that he should do this.
RL asked the magistrates if it would help if the “persons” involved would come forward, they said yes and RL presented them with the birth certificate of Rhapsodys legal fiction, they muttered amongst them selves and said they were leaving court again!
When they came back RL tried to establish the lawfulness of their position at which point the magistrate said that this matter was going nowhere and the courts were to be cleared.
Upon this loads of police officers came into the courts and proceeded to usher us out of the door, RL said there was no need for this as we were there peacefully and lawfully and that there was no need for this show of force as we would leave as soon as we had our documentation returned to us.
On leaving the courts peacefully we all filed round to the police station to file a compliant about the police heavy handedness. When we got there the policeman at the desk said there was no-one there to deal with us as they were all next door for us! He was laughing and appeared quite amused so we waited while they sent someone through.

Museum Closures in Toronto - ITEM - Dec. 1, 2011
Located at Dundas and Islington in Etobicoke, Montgomery's Inn is a historic building that hasn't changed even as the land around it has made its way into the 21st century. But, it too may change after budget cuts are debated by Toronto city council.
On Saturday, community members gathered in support of Montgomery's Inn. It is one of 4 city museums that has brought in the least amount of revenue this year. To balance the budget, Mayor Rob Ford proposed shutting down the museums.
Concerned citizens were invited to share memories of the museum at the event. It was organized by Janice Etter, the president of the support group for Montgomery's Inn.
CLIP - Janice Etter
The first thing people see when they walk in the museum is a petition in support of keeping these historical museums open.
Museums such as Montgomery's Inn give people a glimpse into what life was like in the 19th century.
Fresh bread is baked almost every day in a traditional wood-fired bake oven to sell at their Farmer's Market. For Saturday's event, smaller loaves were baked to give community members a taste of what Montgomery's Inn has to offer.
Aside from Montgomery's Inn, other Historical museums slated to close include Gibson House in North York, Zion Schoolhouse, also in North York, and the Market Gallery in St. Lawrence Market.
Joe Mihevc is the representative for St. Paul's West. He is one of the councillors who has openly opposed the suggested closures to historical museums.
CLIP - Joe Mihevc
STAND-UP
Community groups are doing everything in their power to prevent the closures. A Facebook group has been created, petitions are being signed, and groups are urging citizens to contact their local councilors.
A decision is expected to be made early next year.

Date and Time Sep. 18 (Wed.) 3:00pm-4:30pm Venue Carnegie Endowment for International Peace 1779 Massachusetts Ave, NW, Washington D.C. Abstract Following Japan's House of Councillors election in July the Liberal Democratic Party's ruling coalition enjoys a majority in both the upper and lower houses of parliament. Supporters see the coalition's success as a strong endorsement of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's free-hand economic reforms. However, critics argue that serious challenges stand in the way including a shrinking domestic labor force, a rapidly aging population, and decreasing consumption. Kosuke Motani, chief senior economist for the Japan Research Institute and senior advisor to the Development Bank of Japan, will offer his views on Japan's economy and Abenomics in light of the recent elections. Mireya Solís will offer comments and James L. Schoff will moderate. Yoshiake Abe will give brief introductory remarks.
