Mary Millar (26 July 1936 – 10 November 1998) was a British actress best remembered for her role as Rose in the BBC sitcom Keeping Up Appearances. She was born Mary Wetton in Doncaster, Yorkshire.
Millar began her career in 1962 in Lock Up Your Daughters. In 1969, she played the title role in the musical Ann Veronica, based on the novel by H. G. Wells. Millar gained acclaim for her part in Keeping Up Appearances as Rose number 2, replacing Shirley Stelfox for Series 2 in 1991. Rose was a popular character in the sitcom, with a flair for drama and a fancy for married men. Millar remained with the series through to its conclusion in 1995.
She appeared on the original cast album of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical The Phantom of the Opera as Madame Giry, and as Mrs Potts on the London cast album of Beauty and the Beast composed by Alan Menken with lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice.
She recorded her vocals for Beauty and the Beast shortly before she died of ovarian cancer in 1998 at the age of 62 in Brockley, London. An episode of Keeping Up Appearances was broadcast on BBC1 the following week and dedicated to her.
Judy Valerie Cornwell (born 22 February 1940) is an English actress best known for her role as Daisy in the British sitcom Keeping Up Appearances.
Cornwell's father served in the RAF and she grew up in Britain where she attended a convent school, before moving to Australia where her family emigrated. She has written about her childhood experiences in her autobiography Adventures of a Jelly Baby. She returned to Britain, where she became a professional dancer and comedienne in her teens, working her act between the nudes at the Windmill Theatre before becoming an actress. Her long career includes roles in radio's The Navy Lark, the controversial play Oh! What A Lovely War, her own TV comedy series Moody and Pegg, and several seasons with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Cornwell's film roles include Santa Claus: The Movie (as Mrs. Claus) and Mad Cows. On television she has appeared in Dixon of Dock Green, Cakes and Ale, Bergerac, Doctor Who (the episode Paradise Towers), several episodes of Farrington of the F.O., The Famous Five, The Bill, Heartbeat, Miss Marple and Midsomer Murders. She also appeared on radio as WREN Cornwell in The Navy Lark. Judy is also appearing in BBC soap opera EastEnders as Queenie Trott, the mean tyrant mother of lovable loser Heather Trott. She is best known, however, for her portrayal of lovable working class housewife "Daisy" in the popular sitcom Keeping Up Appearances, which ran from 1990 to 1995.
Katherine Patricia Routledge, CBE (born 17 February 1929) is an English character comedy actress and singer. She is best known for her role as character Hyacinth Bucket (supposedly pronounced "Bouquet") in the British television series Keeping Up Appearances and Hetty Wainthropp in the British television series Hetty Wainthropp Investigates. In addition to her roles in British television, she has a long and successful career in musical theatre, as well as in film.
Katherine Patricia Routledge was born in Tranmere, Birkenhead to parents Catherine and Isaac Routledge. Her father was a haberdasher, and, during WWII, the family lived weeks at a time in the basement of her father's shop. She was educated at Mersey Park Primary School, Birkenhead High School, now a state-funded Academy school, and the University of Liverpool. At Liverpool she graduated with Honours in English Language and Literature and was not on a path to pursue an acting career. She was, however, involved in the school's Dramatic Society where she worked closely with the academic Edmund Colledge who both directed and acted in several of the society's productions. It was Colledge who persuaded her to pursue an acting career. After graduating from Liverpool, she trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and launched her acting career at the Liverpool Playhouse.
David Norris Phelps (born October 21, 1969) is an American Christian vocalist, songwriter and vocal arranger, who is best known for singing tenor in the Gaither Vocal Band. He has also released several solo albums, including four Christmas collections. On January 13, 2008, Phelps appeared on Extreme Makeover Home Edition for the Woodhouse family.
David Phelps was born in Texas, to Gene and Mary Ella Phelps. Gene is a former accountant/banker who currently teaches business and finance at a college in Houston. Mary Ella is a retired English Professor. He has two older sisters, Sherri Proctor (who sings backup vocals for him when he tours) and Kari Lee (a professional trumpeter who tours with the Chicago-based Millar Brass Ensemble.)
Phelps grew up in Tomball, Texas near Houston and graduated from Tomball High School in 1988. He attended Baylor University, (where he directed the Baylor Religious Hour Choir) graduating in 1992 with a degree in music and vocal performance.
Phelps is a lyric tenor whose trademark is his large range, featuring an ability to sing in a high tessitura for sustained periods. Live recordings, whether by himself or with the Gaithers, indicate he has more than a three octave full voice range. In the first verse of "Just as I Am", from the album Revelation, Phelps sings an E2. This is attested by live performances. During a performance of "When God Dips His Love in My Heart", he ably sings an F5, full voice, and sustains it for a significant period of time. During his time with the Gaither Vocal Band, his high tessitura was employed often. He was introduced to Bill Gaither by Mark Lowry, who was (and is now again) the baritone in the group. Lowry brought Gaither a tape of Phelps. During a performance of "Let Freedom Ring" (originally recorded on their God Is Good CD), he ably sings an Db5 in full voice. In Studio his highest note ever is a C#6 the Soprano High C#6.[citation needed]
Will Millar is an Irish-Canadian singer best known as the 30 year leader of The Irish Rovers. Until his departure in 1995, he was the group's front man. He plays guitar, banjo, mandolin and tin whistle. Born in Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Millar and his sister Sandra Beech performed as The Millar Kids before the family emigrated to Canada. Millar formed a Calypso Band, Kalypso Kews, that performed for two years in Toronto's Yonge Street at the Calypso Club. Millar moved to Calgary and hosted a children's TV show as well as forming an Irish folk trio.
In the 1960s, Millar invited his brother -then 15 George, his cousin Joe and Jimmy Ferguson to stay with him in Calgary. He brought them on his TV show and started performing with them at Calgary's first folk club, The Depression. Under the guidance of Les Weinstein, Millar's manager, he took the new group to San Francisco and after an audition they made the Purple Onion in San Francisco and the Ice House in Pasadena their home base club. In 1968, under the production of Bud Dant of Decca Records, the group's recording of the Shel Silverstein song "The Unicorn" went to #1 in Canada and #3 on the Billboard pop chart in the U.S. and became the Irish Rovers' signature song.[citation needed]
