New Review Update: Seaway; Holograms; The Capitalist Kids/Tight Bros

Posted by adame on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 7:00 PM (EST)
Image Ahoy seafarers, Adam E. back with three more reviews designed to keep you afloat until help arrives.

First, staff writer Renaldo gives his take on Seaway's Hoser:

Their cheesiness is very neatly stapled to the stigma of what pop-punk should sound like and it's a big reason why musically, Hoser is plain old in-your-face, take-it-or-leave-it fun.

Next, reader Nedsammy dives into the self-titled album from Sweden's Holograms:

The problem with the album, for me, is that the rest of it doesn't sound half as vital and grabbing as the highlights. At first, the tracks between my favorites shot past in a great whoosh of gloomy post-punk okay-ness.

Finally, editor Joe Pelone reviews the Split 7-inch from The Capitalist Kids and Tight Bros:

At six songs, this split is a real deal in stereo, and anyone who likes the Ramones, fun, smashing the government and also the Ramones 2x should get on board.

Basement ends hiatus

Contributed by nedsammy. Posted by kira on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 11:00 AM (EST)
Basement UK's Basement has announced an end to their hiatus with shows coming this summer. The band posted on their Facebook page:

In the autumn of 2012 we made a decision as a band to put things on hold, as many of us had other commitments in our lives that needed to take priority. Almost two years on, for the most part now settled in where we want to be, it feels like there is space for change. When we put out the hiatus statement, we genuinely thought we were going to be away for quite a while, and we didn't see any chance of having free time to do anything other than focus on our professional lives. We're glad that this is not the case. We are really excited to say that Basement will be playing shows this summer, and we're looking forward to seeing everyone again.

You can revisit video from their last show in Leeds from November 2012 here.
