The name "Smashproof" is a play on the word "Bulletproof". Their first release came in 2005, with the Juse-produced "Ride Til' I Die", which gained club play across New Zealand and Australia. The group released their debut album, The Weekend, on 23 March 2009 and have since gone on to have three consecutive top twenty singles on the New Zealand singles Chart.

Sidney Diamond (born 7 July 1986), best known by his stage name Young Sid, is a New Zealand rapper and member of hip-hop group Smashproof. His 2007 debut album, The Truth, was named the Urban Album of the Year at the 2008 Māori Music Awards.
Young Sid was born in Otara, South Auckland, New Zealand and later moved to Manukau City, Auckland.[citation needed] He is of Cook Island and Maori descent, and was raised in the Manukau suburb of Otara. Sid used his aunt's address to attend Papatoetoe High School. He was first attracted to American hip hop after listening to his older brother's copy of the 1988 N.W.A single "Gangsta Gangsta." Sid recorded his first song when he was eleven, and was part of a short-lived hip-hop group called The Murder Squad.
Sid, along with fellow rappers Tyree and Deach, formed hip-hop trio Smashproof in 2005, and they signed a contract with Move The Crowd Records (a subsidiary of Universal) during Sid's first semester of university; he dropped out shortly thereafter in order to pursue his music career full-time. Sid explained in an interview with the Sunday Star Times that the name "Smashproof" was a play on the word "bulletproof." He briefly came under controversy in February 2008 when he appeared in a music video featuring a South Auckland street gang, of which his brother is a member.
So I turn on the TV the other day
And I see some sad as shit
Like why the fuck would you touch a little girl for man?
Not even two years old, can't even talk
And that's just one
Wonder how many other kids around the world get treated like that too
So this is dedicated to them
Yeah
I don't even feel ripped off, Been hit and dissed on
Two solo's deep and the bro's do piss poor
Pissed off
Now I get the hunger to keep on and keep goin'
Livin' is the reason I spit more
The drama ain't a thing for me, I seen worse happen
Turn on the TV and some kid got murd' by her own fuckin' family
How sad is that?
Two years of age and getting treated like a hacky sack
Make me sick 'til my stomach hurls
Life's a Miss & then you die
She didn't get the chance to say, "Fuck the world'
"Fuck the world" My message from the little lady
You're safe now sweety, tell the man that Siddy hate him
My face frownin' like, why you give 'em life and take it?
Why you give 'em eyes to see then turn around, poof erase 'em?
She boxed now
How we s'posed to celebrate a few years of livin'
When what was done, was unforgiven
And I can talk about me and what I'm going through
But that ain't a thing compared to you, you, you, and you
Your boy just showing love to you and you when Everybody's Giving up
And you can lean on me when you're going through
That bullshit this young man has got you, you, you
The boy just showing love to you and you when Everybody's Giving up
Read the paper the other day, another kid put to work
Lipstick, mini skirt, her old man's pimpin' her
Thirteen years so young, so sad I feel her hurt
Held my tears back 'cause he got a gift he don't deserve
Imagine if he was her and the cards were turned
He would prob'ly feel like his heart was put into a urn
He would prob'ly feel like he was buried in the earth
He would prob'ly wish on the stars birth was reversed
I'll make that wish for you dear, who'll sort him out?
I do not care how you do it, put him in the clouds
No remorse for the dog, treat him like a stray
This for the sweety from around my way
I got you
And I can talk about me and what I'm going through
But that ain't shit compared to you, you, you, and you
The boy just showing love to you and you when nobody else give a fuck
And you can lean on me when you're going through
That bullshit this young man has got you, you, you
The boy just showing love to you and you when nobody else give a fuck
[Deach]All the issues that you have, I totally understand
I know you're walking baby steps, put out your hand and let me grab you
Pick you up so you got the strength to stand up
Don't worry 'bout the drama, it's your time to man up
I've been in your shoes, trust me it's hard work
But you won't get nothing from doing nothing
You must try
Even when you're ruined inside, it ain't the bottom line
And the bottle ain't the bottom line
Still you gotta climb
So you gotta ride
And you should never slow down, leave it in drive
Keep on moving
Say goodbye to the drama, goodbye to the struggles
Say Hi to the new you, you, you
And I can talk about me and what I'm going through
But that ain't shit compared to you, you, you, and you
The boy just showing love to you and you when nobody else give a fuck
And you can lean on me when you're going through
That bullshit this young man has got you, you, you
The boy just showing love to you and you when nobody else give a fuck
And I can talk about me and what I'm going through
But that ain't shit compared to you, you, you, and you
The boy just showing love to you and you when nobody else give a fuck
And you can lean on me when you're going through
That bullshit this young man has got you, you, you
The room is all silent your eye lids are shut,
You begin crying, saying "why aint I good enough"
Tears running down your cheeks,
2 trails of mascara dripping off your face to your feet,
All of a sudden you fall to your knees,
Your body starts shaking and it's making it... hard for you to breathe.
Your minds playing tricks on yah,
Wishing it's a bad dream cause usually never happens to yah.
Then you're phone rings,
You know it's him calling,
You don't want to listen to his side of the story.
You hear a lot of rumors, no way they aint true!
Even though the person that told you the news only
Assume that whatever he did made sense that he cheated!
From Every phone calls, texts, numbers you deleted,
Came fat lies, you didn't need to hear,
But the source that you got it from is someone that is dearest to you!
Chorus
I don't want start again, but it feels like the end.
Wasn't I good enough?
See then why dint you give it up?
Why did you make me choose?
This is the hardest thing I've ever had to do,
But I gotta let u go and leave my tears!
The room was all silent, you hear the doorbell ring,
You put away everything, you're books and you're pens
Den u standup say "excuse me can I pass?"
Smile on your face cause it was your last exam,
Head to the cafeteria to meet friends,
That's about the craziest night on the weekend,
Chat about who hooked up with who,
Over hearing a name of someone dearest to u
You start thinking
Tell the girls "keep talking"
Feeding u more info getting deeper in the story
Then you clicked
They talking about you're cousin's boyfriend hooking
Up with someone so up in the open,
You ina position where you gotta tell her, you scared to though
Cause you know that it will damage her but you do.
You let her know everything from what you assume happened.
Chorus
I don't want start again, but it feels like the end.
Wasn't I good enough?
See then why dint you give it up?
Why did you make me choose?
This is the hardest thing I've ever had to do but I gotta let u go
And leave my tears!
The room is all silent you open your eyes
Your head starts pounding by the rays of the sunshine.
Trying to remember what happened in your room,
You still smelling the alcohol and some ladies perfume.
Flashbacks of you taking a few shots,
Taking a girl home in the risk,
Black spots, you begin to panic cause you know you wonder wrong,
10 missed calls and messages on your phone
You get scared.
The butterflies start creeping,
Tryna ring yah girl, you assume she's sleeping.
Still no answer, you can hear yourself breathing.
The pace starts picking up of your heart beating
Wishing that you were never put in this drunk state.
You feel the buzz on your phone cause it's on vibrate,
A text in your inbox saying that she knows!
Now I guess that she knows how the story goes...
Chorus
I don't want start again, but it feels like the end.
Wasn't I good enough
See then why dint you give it up?
Why did you make me choose?
This is the hardest thing I've ever had to do but I gotta let u go
