elicopter | Pakistani Punjab Chief Minister | Shabaz Sharif | Sukhbir Badal | Talwandi Sabo | Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL) is implementing a state of the art coal based supercritical thermal power plant in District Mansa, Punjab, India. This will be the first Supercritical unit and one of the largest Greenfield power project in the State of Punjab. Power generated from this project shall be supplied to the Punjab State Electricity Board. TSPL will use energy efficient and cleaner supercritical technology for the electricity generation. Super-critical technology utilizes steam at temperature above the critical point of water. The technology generates same amount of electricity using less coal. The project activity will thus reduce consumption of fossil fuel (coal) as compared to the conventional sub critical technology thus making it an environmental friendly and cost efficient technology. The proposed project activity will involve setting up super-critical coal fired power generation units. The steam parameters involved are: efficient technology will contribute a significant reduction of GHG emissions. In this pursuit, TSPL has chosen world class equipments and business partners having proven track record in the fields of Design & Engineering, Quality, Safety and Project Execution. The State of Punjab has been consistently facing peak power shortages during summer, in the last 3 years. The total current installed capacity of Punjab is around 6,973 MW, against peak demand of around 10,435 MW (CEA Monthly report Nov 2010). The demand is expected to increase to 11,000MW by 2012(17th Electric Power Survey). The successful implementation of the project shall bridge the power demand and supply gap. The increased economic activity due to this project shall also generate thousands of direct and indirect employment in the State of Punjab. The success of the project will bolster government initiatives of Public Private Partnership model in key areas of Industrial Development. OVERVIEW Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL) was incorporated as an SPV by Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) with the purpose of constructing a 1980 (3x660) MW thermal power plant at Village Banawala, Mansa-Talwandi Sabo Road, District Mansa, Punjab, India. Sterlite Energy Limited (a Vedanta group company) was selected as the developer of the project based on the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding Process (Case-2) on BOO basis for supply of 100% power to Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) for 25 years as per the guidelines of Government of India. Power Purchase Agreement and other related agreements were signed between TSPL and PSEB on September 1, 2008, and the ownership of Talwandi Sabo Power Limited was transferred to Sterlite Energy Limited (SEL) on that date. The winner team was awarded with a cash award of Rs. 2 crore along trophy while the runners up Pakistan got a cash prize of Rs. 1 crore with trophy. Both the best raider and stopper were from India got Preet Tractors. From the start to the end the match remained a nail biting as there was a very thin margin between the duo and it was remained equal various times but after short break in second half, Indian players registered a lead, which could not be broken by Pakistan. The final witnessed high voltage of excitement with the performance from both sides while Indian players took on the Pakstani team in a neck to neck competition. As the players from both the team raided each others territories the enthusiastic crowd surcharged the chilling winter night here at the Guru Nanak Stadium. Balbir Dulla, who has been declared best raider secured 16 points while Neena and Gurmeet Mundian of India secured 6 points each while in stopper line Balbir Pala secured 7 points whereas from Pakistan line raider Mohammad Chishti secured 9 points followed by Lala Obeydulla and Captain Babar Gujjar by securing 6 points each. Till first half both the teams were giving stiff competition to each other but by and large the Indian players dominated the match by keeping ahead of their Pakitani rivals. Such was the enthusiasm in the match that the Chief guest of the tournament and WEST Punjab's Chief Minister Mian Shabaz Sharif along with Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal besides other dignitaries enjoyed the full match.
