In the week marking the 10th anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, we spend the hour looking at the remarkable life and imminent death of Iraq War veteran Tomas Young. Citing his overwhelming physical pain from wounds that left him paralyzed in Iraq, Young recently announced he has decided to end his life by discontinuing his medicine and nourishment, which comes in the form of liquid through a feeding tube. Young joins to explain his decision from his home in Kansas City, along with his wife Claudia Cuellar. We're also joined by Phil Donahue, the legendary TV talk show host, whose 2007 documentary, "Body of War," follows Tomas' rehabilitation and his political awakening to become one of the most prominent antiwar U.S. veterans speaking out against the invasion and occupation of Iraq. "On one hand, I am sick and tired of being sick and tired," Young says. "And on the other, I don't want to watch my body waste away." Donahue calls Tomas' announcement "a very unusual act of moral courage. He wants people to see this because he came home from the most sanitized war of my lifetime. We don't see this. A Vietnam veteran was escorted off a flight from Phoenix to El Paso after an argument over his service dog. The veteran, who has not been identified, boarded a U.S. Airways flight but refused to obey the pilot's order to have his 100-pound Golden Retriever on the floor instead of on the empty seat beside him. As people around the country celebrated Veterans Day, ESPN aired a segment on SportsCenter of families being re-united with military members. Best if viewed at 480p or higher. Music is by Chris Daughtry - Home Being a Veteran myself and having served part of my time in the Military in Germany, I can relate so strongly to this video because when I got home after 3 years of being away from my family, these video segments were just like me. My family knew I was coming home but they did not know exactly when (with international flights, layovers, ETC....) and they were expecting me to call from the airport to come and get me. I surprised them by hopping a cab directly to home and to see the look on their faces was and is priceless. Do not concern yourself with shedding a tear over this video. I would worry more about you if you don't. Even if you are not a Veteran, I know you can appreciate the emotions of a family reunion even after a short absence. Thanks to all of my fellow Veterans for your service past and present and a prayer to all of those who lost their lives in keeping us free. Thanks for watching :)
