Rio+20 (16/06/2012) -- Richard Feely, Senior Scientist at U.S National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration talks to Pavilion TV about the problem of the acidification of the world's oceans in terms of sustainable life of the marine species and ensuring the continued availability of fish for peoples' diets. He explains that it was once thought a good thing that the ocean's absorbed up to a quarter of the carbon emissions released into the atmosphere from human activities but how more recently scientists have observed a 30% increase in the acidity of our oceans.- published: 04 Sep 2013

Cantwell to NOAA Nominee: Continue Ocean Acidification Monitoring Vital to WA Shellfish Industry
Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) urged the Obama Administration's nominee to be administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to fully support ocean acidification monitoring buoys and research programs crucial to Washington state's maritime economy. Ocean acidification is already having impacts on Washington's $270 million shellfish industry and the Alaskan King Crab fishery. Cantwell also secured commitments from Dr. Kathryn Sullivan, nominee to be NOAA administrator, to prioritize a 'robust' national forecasting system to better prepare coastal communities for extreme storms and that Dr. Sullivan would push to modernize NOAA's research fleet.- published: 19 Sep 2013

tele-present water
This installation draws information from the intensity and movement of the water in a remote location. Wave data is being collected in real-time from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration data buoy Station 46246 (49°59'7" N 145°5'20" W) on the Pacific Ocean. The wave intensity and frequency is scaled and transferred to the mechanical grid structure installed at The National Museum in Wroclaw, Poland. The result was a simulation of the physical effects caused by the movement of water from this distant location.

Welcome to the Anthropocene
In June 2012, "Welcome to the Anthropocene"—a film about the state of the planet—opened the UN's Rio+20 summit on sustainable development. The summit was the largest UN meeting to date.
A 3-minute journey through the last 250 years of our history, from the start of the Industrial Revolution to the Rio+20 Summit. The film charts the growth of humanity into a global force on an equivalent scale to major geological processes.

The film was commissioned by the Planet Under Pressure conference, London 26-29 March, a major international conference focusing on solutions.

This installation draws information from the intensity and movement of the water in a remote location. Wave data is being collected in real-time from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration data buoy station 46075 Shumagin Islands Alaska (53°54'39" N 160°48'21" W). tele-present water
This installation draws information from the intensity and movement of the water in a remote location. Wave data is being collected and updated from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration data buoy station 51003. This station was originally moored 205 nautical miles Southwest of Honolulu on the Pacific. It went adrift and the last report from its moored position was around 04/25/2011. It is still transmitting valid observation data but its exact location is unknown. The wave intensity and frequency collected from the buoy is scaled and transferred to the mechanical grid structure, resulting in a simulation of the physical effects caused by the movement of water from this distant unknown location. This work physically replicates a remote experience and makes observation of the activity of an isolated object, otherwise lost at sea, possible through direct communication.
