Above: Big Boi and Andre 3000 of Outkast

In the most exciting news to hit Lloyd's desk since Ari Gold retired, Atlanta hip-hop duo Outkast are dusting the cobwebs off their fluoro-green jodhpurs to headline US festival Coachella and embark on a world tour, in April.

Arguably the most influential (and stylish) rappers of all time, fantasy became reality when Coachella released their 2014 lineup, with the Atlanta duo of Big Boi and Andre 3000 headlining the first night of the three-day festival. To put it into perspective, artists lower on the festival list include Pharrel Williams, Queens of the Stone Age, Beck, Lorde and The Knife. It's kind of a big deal.

Following the news, the official Outkast website released a statement confirming a 40-stop world tour later this year, stating, "After headlining performances at Coachella in April, the influential group will be the marquee act at over 40 festivals around the world throughout the Spring/Summer of 2014." Could this mean an Australian stopover?

Fans have been on red alert since Big Boi posted a photo of the pair hanging out on his Instagram, late last year, fuelling rumours Outkast were joining forces once again. It's not a coming out of retirement, per se - Big Boi's been busy with his solo releases, and Andre 3000 has made a few cameo appearances around the traps including a solid verse on Frank Ocean's Channel Orange - but it's been a decade since they've released an album under the Outkast banner (they're last one, The Love Below, dropped in 2003).

Both rappers have shared their excitement on the news, with Big Boi saying, "It's truly an honor to celebrate 20 years and still be free to do music the way we choose. I'm looking forward to rocking the stage with my Bro Ski and to all the fans, stank you smelly much. This is for y'all!"

Andre 3000 later released a statement, sharing his Outkast stoke with the fans: "And imagine, all we wanted to do was rap," 3000 said. "I am thankful to have been a part of a group that allowed me to explore anything that came to mind and have fun doing it. Returning to the stage together is the most exciting way for us to thank everyone for their 20 years of supporting Outkast."

With Australia being a regular stopover for most touring artists, it's safe to assume the pair will be touching down on our soil. The real question is, what festival? (Our money's on Splendour).

Polaroids at the ready, folks.
