I-League (Indian Football League) Season 2013-14 Trailer HD | The action is back!!
The 2013--14 I-League will be the seventh season of the I-League, the Indian professional league for association football clubs, since its establishment in 2007. In January 2013, it was announced that for the 2013--14 season the All India Football Federation would drop Air India and ONGC from the I-League and directly include two clubs who guarantee investment in infrastructure and remain a separate commercial entity. A total of 13 teams are currently registered to start the new season. Ten clubs from the previous campaign, two promoted sides from the 2nd Division and one new expansion team. Rangdajied United as champions and Mohammedan as runners-up secured direct promotion from the 2013 I-League 2nd Division. United Sikkim and Air India were relegated, although Air India would not have been given a licence to compete in this edition after failing to fulfill the AIFF criteria. This same fate happened to ONGC who have also been left out of the coming season. Mumbai Tigers were accepted into the I.League on 27 May 2013 but later withdrew citing unavoidable circumstances with only 20 days left into the start of the new season. Bengaluru were also accepted into the I.League and will be based in Bangalore. One other consortium from Kerala, whose leading company is Eagles FC, also expressed interest in joining the league. It was also announced in late May that English club Queens Park Rangers also expressed interest but look to be prepared to enter for the 2014-15 season. On 29 August, the AIFF decided to shut down Pailan Arrows and withdraw them from the coming season. Teams : Salgaocar, Shillong Lajong, Sporting Clube de Goa, Mohun Bagan AC, Mumbai FC, Prayag United SC, Pune FC, Rangdajied United, Churchill Brothers, Dempo SC, East Bengal FC, Bengaluru FC, Mohammedan Sporting- published: 20 Sep 2013

Mumbai FC 2-3 Shillong Lajong | I-League thriller 2013-14 | Goals & Highlights!!
Credits : Ten Action October 24, 2013 PUNE: Shillong Lajong stuck to their game-plan and produced scintillating football to crash any hopes of resurrection that Mumbai FC had as the visitors won 3-2, in the Round 6 match in the Airtel I-League football championship here on Wednesday. The trademark doggedness of Mumbai FC came was outshown and Haroon Amiri's red card summed up Mumbai's night as they were outfought by Shillong Lajong, who with their searing pace and quick counter attacks dominated the match. Amiri who has made himself the focal point of Mumbai FC, was a notable absentee from the starting line-up which hurt the hosts. Early into the match, Mumbai were caught napping by the visitors. Shillong wingman Taisuke Matsuge went on a 35-yard run before subtly slotting the ball past Kunal Sawant in the sixth minute. Mumbai, known for their fighting spirit, drew level in the 16th minute when Kamaljeet Kumar spotted the run of Sandjar Ahmadi to deliver a precise pass. Ahmadi latched onto the pass before successfully beating his marker with a dummy and lined up a ground stroke past Lajong keeper Vinay Singh. With the scores level, and both teams probing for the lead, a lively contest unfolded between the two sides. Lajong's sheer pace against Mumbai's aerial prowess resulted in a clash of styles with players going to the ground at regular intervals of time. Lajong, who were spurred on by a small but lively group of away fans, enjoyed a good spell of possession that saw them create plenty of chances and were awarded with frequent corners. The industrious Glen Cornell gave Lajong the lead when he picked the ball from the midfield and ran at the Mumbai defence. Cornell's pace saw him dribble past Anwar Ali and once in a one-on-one situation against the keeper, and the striker fired an unstoppable drive past Sawant in the 60th minute to make it 2-1. It was a lead well deserved for all the running done by Lajong who kept Mumbai on their toes. Lajong were also solid at the back as the back four successfully kept Orok Esien quiet for most of the match. Mumbai brought Amiri into the game with a little less than half an hour left on the clock. They were outsped by the Lajong attack and their frustration boiled over when Amiri swung his arm at Minchol Son for a straight red card. Amiri who was called to help him team allowed his temper to get the better of him and instead put his team at a disadvantage. Meanwhile, Cornell shone in the lone striker role and linked up brilliantly with his team mates and drew the defenders out of the box to allow the wingers and midfielders to join the attack. The striker got his second of the match when he once again, quite effortlessly, ran past three defenders, and smashed a left footed drive into net. Then, there was late drama as ten man Mumbai pulled one goal back from a late corner that was headed home by defender Ritesh Perambra. But the goal came too little too late as Mumbai succumbed to their second straight defeat at home. Cornell was rightfully adjudged man of the match for his two goal effort and Mumbai will have some work cut out before their upcoming fixtures.- published: 31 Oct 2013

Rangdajied United 2-2 Salgaocar FC | I League 2013-14
Credits : AIFF Media Team, https://www.facebook.com/ILeagueOfficial SHILLONG: A nail-biting contest saw Salgaocar deny Rangdajied United FC their first ever win in the Airtel I-League, with the Goans coming back from two goals down to draw 2-2 here on Tuesday evening. Ngaite got the Blues off to the best possible start with a quick goal in the second minute. With a free kick on the right flank, the ball was headed in by a Rangdajied player, but a Salgaocar defender was in the way. Ngaite, however, was ready on the left and headed the ball in powerfully. Salgaocar, however, were barely affected by the early setback. They threw themselves into the attack, with lead goal-scorer of the season Darryl Duffy dangerous on the right flank. Karma Tsewang was also a threat, clipping the side of the net with a ninth minute strike and a good cross from him following a fast-paced attack in the 15th had no one available from his team to slot the ball in. Rangdajied's defenders looked a little sluggish throughout the first half, and the visitors would have equalised in the 17th minute except that Rangdajied goalkeeper Shambru Mistry came out of the goalmouth to dive and save the ball before Claude Gnakpa could reach it. T Lalnunpuia continued his excellent form and did the groundwork for the hosts to take a 2-0 lead. With the ball headed into the box, the striker darted around two defenders and curled the ball across the face of the goal and Ngaite slid the ball in. Even a two-goal lead did not appear to be secure enough for the Blues and Salgaocar earned their first goal out of a corner on the right far side. The kick went deep and the tall Gnakpa headed it in with Mistry slightly out of position. There were further good chances in stoppage time for the visitors, with Clifton Dias hitting the crossbar with a powerful shot from outside the box. Gnakpa was ready for the rebound but Mistry put it out after failing to collect the ball cleanly. Although Rangdajied had a slender lead, Salgaocar came out after the break the stronger outfit after their dangerous first half play. RUFC's best chance came on the hour mark with Ngaite and Lalnunpuia almost scripting another goal with some neat passing between the two. Ngaite's ultimate shot, however, went slightly wide, with the keeper brushing the ball with his fingertips. Rangdajied were on the back foot for the majority of the second half and the action was centred around the hosts' half almost exclusively with the Blues' defenders having to make spirited attempts to keep the opposition at bay. They also suffered a blow when forward Shin Hojun was stretchered off in the 65th minute after dicing with an opponent. He was later replaced by Elam Abocha Singh. The top team of the season's hard work finally paid off in the 89th minute when substitute Gilbert Oliveira, outside the box on the left smashed the ball with great accuracy past Mistry. Both sides pressed on, each earning half chances, but the match ended 2-2, spoiling Rangdajied's hopes of their first I-League win.- published: 07 Nov 2013

Mohammedan vs Dempo SC | Tolgay & Alwyn unbelievable miss!! I-League 2013-14 Highlights
Credits: Ten Action Mohammedan Sporting 0-0 Dempo I-LEAGUE Media Team KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting were held to a goalless draw by Dempo in the round 12 encounter of the Airtel I-League at the Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday evening. Both teams had great chances to score with Mohammedan's Tolgay Ozbey and Alwyn George of Dempo wasting two golden opportunities each. It is Mohammedan Sporting's third straight goalless stalemate at home and it takes their tally to 13 points from 11 matches. Dempo have one point less from the same number of games. The match got off to a slow start as neither side threatened to score in the early stages but Dempo suffered a big blow as Brazilian Beto came off with an injury and was replaced by Jeje Lalpekhlua. Mohammedan Sporting were seeing more of the ball but it was only after the half hour mark that they had their first real opening. Tolgay got a clear sight of goal after a nice move but his shot was easily saved by Dempo custodian Laxmikant Kattimani. Just before the halftime break Tolgay squandered a sitter as he blasted his effort off target from close range after being found by a deflected Collin Abranches cross. That miss was a huge let off for Dempo and they should have punished Mohammedan Sporting at the start of the second period when Rakesh Masih needlessly gave away possession in front of his own box but Alwyn could only force a save off Mohammedan keeper Luis Barreto. From the resulting corner Alwyn had another great opportunity as Jewel Raja found him unmarked in the six-yard box after Barreto had misjudged the flight of the ball. But this time Alwyn put his effort over the bar much to the relief of the thousands of Mohammedan Sporting fans. Those two chances brought Mohammedan Sporting to life and they should have been put in front by Tolgay who was set through on goal by Anthony Sorean but the Aussie's weak effort was well saved by Kattimani. Tolgay soon made way for former India striker Ashim Biswas but that change didn't really have much of an impact as Mohammedan Sporting were struggling to test Kattimani despite getting into good positions around the Dempo box. Dempo were defending well with makeshift centre back Debabrata Roy having a fine game but the Goan club could have given away a penalty when Kattimani appeared to have brought Josimar down in the box. The referee only gave a corner and there was another penalty shout when Dempo's Jeje Lalpekhlua looked to have handled the ball inside the box. Mohammedan Sporting were very wasteful with their final ball in the closing stages with Josimar only managing to test Kattimani once after a corner. At the other end a superb shot from Dempo substitute Gabriel Fernandes brought the best out of Barreto as he ensured a fourth straight clean sheet for the Kolkata club.- published: 05 Dec 2013

East Bengal 1 (Lalrindika Ralte 73rd) beat Mohun Bagan 0 AIFF Media Team KOLKATA: A world class strike from India international Lalrindika Ralte gave East Bengal a 1-0 win over arch-rivals Mohun Bagan in a round 10 clash of the Airtel I-League at the Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday (November 24, 2013). The season's first big Kolkata derby produced very few goal scoring chances but Lalrindika's moment of magic in the 73rd minute gave Armando Colaco a winning start as East Bengal coach. This was the 306th edition of this historic fixture and it was witnessed by a crowd of more than 80,000 in an electrifying atmosphere. The first real chance of the game fell to Mohun Bagan as skipper Odafa Okolie, who was playing in a deeper role, sent Eric Muranda clean through on goal with a lovely through pass but the Kenyan's effort was well saved by Abhijit Mondal and Katsumi Yusa's shot from the rebound was blocked by Arnab Mondal. East Bengal were seeing more of the ball but struggling to break down a well ogranised Mohun Bagan backline with a header from Edeh Chidi being their only meaningful attempt and that too went off target. The red and gold brigade's best opportunity of the half came just a few minutes before the interval when Lalrindika's lobbed through ball sent Ryuji Sueoka behind the Mohun Bagan defence but Shilton Paul came out well to save at the Japanese player's feet. It was the same pattern in the second half as East Bengal had plenty of possession but didn't really trouble the Mohun Bagan defence. At the other end, Odafa had a golden opportunity to put his side in front but the Mohun Bagan captain's header from a Pritam Kotal cross was straight at Abhijit Mondal even though he was unmarked. Both coaches made a substitution each to change the complexion of the game as the young and exciting Ram Malik replaced CS Sabeeth for Mohun Bagan while Colaco brought James Moga in place of Cavin Lobo. Worryingly for East Bengal, midfield general and skipper Mehtab Hossain came off with an injury but just minutes later Lalrindika broke the deadlock with a trademark left-footed effort from 30 yards much to delight of the thousands of East Bengal fans. Mohun Bagan coach Karim Bencherifa brought on youngsters Sankar Oran and Manish Bhargav late on in search of the equaliser but it was East Bengal who could have doubled their advantage had Sueoka or Chidi been a bit more clinical. The result ends Mohun Bagan's four-match unbeaten run and sees East Bengal overtake their arch-rivals. Both sides have ten points each but Armando Colaco's side have a superior goal difference and played three games less.- published: 26 Nov 2013

1st goal : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3-K2IJNq7w 2nd goal : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpPl1t5do7I Did Robin Singh feel he was still part of the East Bengal team? Might well be so... Brought in at the start of the second half by Bangalore FC coach Ashley Westwood, he smartly nodded in a Lalrindika Ralte corner to give East Bengal the much-needed lead. For a moment or so, even the East Bengal players looked to be taken aback by Robin's 'contribution'. That 49th minute 'brilliance' from Robin made sure East Bengal never lost control of the game. And seconds before the final whistle, James Moga finished if off in style, as East Bengal beat the toppers 2-0 in Saturday's Airtel I-League tie at the Kalyani Stadium. The likes of Cavin Lobo, Harmanjyot Khabra and Avishek Das made their best efforts to feed the duo with goal-bound moves, something India coach Wim Koevermans, who was present at the venue, too, observed. But Chidi and Moga's response was such as if they had forgotten scoring. However, Moga did make amends in the end.- published: 27 Oct 2013

Pune FC 2-0 Mohun Bagan | Haokip & Meyer goals!! I-League 2013-14
Credits : Ten Action 10 Oct 2013 AIFF Media Team Pune: Pune FC academy graduate Thongkhosiem Haokip and Australian winger James Meyer scored second-half goals as Pune FC defeated 10-man Mohun Bagan 2-0 to register their second win in three matches, in the Airtel I-League football championship here on Thursday. After a barren first half, action picked up on changing the ends when Pune FC extracted full advantage of the vociferous crowd that came in good numbers to support Red Lizards in their first home match of the season. Haokip and Meyer may have scored goals, but it was playmaker Calum Angus who made it possible after 70 minutes went by without anyone really threatening the post. A pin-point free-kick from Calum was perfectly headed into the goal by Haokip, who rose from the ranks of Pune FC Academy into the senior side. The 1-0 lead was enough for Pune FC to press for more as Bagan seemed to give up as they found it tough to defend with one less player on their field. The action began to hot up only after Celestine Anyichie was sent off following his second booking and that really broke Bagan's resilience. In the 53rd minute Anyichie was given marching orders for an off the ball offence on Raul Fabiani. Meyer then doubled Pune FC's lead when he pounced on a stray ball and slotted home from inside the box. It was Othallo Tabia who sent in a cross from the right, which was not properly cleared. Meyer rushed in to take the stray ball and shoot it into the nettings. Down by two goals, Bagan lost all hopes of even eking out one point as Pune FC had better ball possession than the visitors. Four minutes from close, Anthony D'Souza crosses from the left before Haokip controlled the ball and set up Meyer, whose curling attempt from the edge of the box went wide. Haokip was at it again in the fourth minute of the added time with a great control in the box to lay off Anthony whose shot was saved by the keeper.- published: 10 Oct 2013

Shillong Lajong 1-1 Mohun Bagan | I League 2013-14
SHILLONG: Two first half goals between Shillong Lajong FC and Mohun Bagan meant that a thrilling Airtel I-League match at the JN Stadium, here, ended 1-1 on Wednesday evening. Bagan, missing out on the services on Odafa Okolie because of injury, had Katsumi Yusa firing on all cylinders, with the Japanese in action almost throughout the first 45 minutes. In the 17th minute he fed the ball ahead of Sabeeth Sathyan, but Lajong goalkeeper Vinay Singh was alert enough to rush forward to collect the ball. Katsumi was fouled by SLFC's Wailadmi Passah in the 26th minute and the attacking midfielder took a beautiful free kick that forced Vinay to dive to his left just to put the ball out. The hosts earned the first goal against the run of play courtesy a foul on Uilliams Souza Silva by Celestine Echezona in the 36th minute, resulting in a red card for the defender after earlier picking up a yellow for a separate foul on Uilliams. The Mariners were visibly displeased with the decision, but when all was said and done, Cornell Glen stepped up to take the penalty, placing it neatly past opposition goalkie and skipper Shilton Paul. Bagan were behind for just a couple of minutes when Sathyan was passing the ball on the left in Lajong territory. The striker passed back to Zakeer Mundampara and the latter, unmarked, thundered a low shot that deflected off Milan Singh, leaving Vinay a spectator as the ball entered the back of the net. The end of the first session was marred somewhat by some unfortunate scenes after Katsumi was fouled around the halfway line. Glen made additional contact with Katsumi after the referee halted play. There was then a bit of argy-bargy between the players from both sides, the end result of which netted Glen a yellow and Jibon Singh a straight red card, leaving both sides with 10 men. The second half began with both teams making a change. Bagan brought on former SLFC player Aiborlang Khongjee in place of Sankar Oraon, while the hosts introduced Taisuke Matsugae, also coming back from injury, and took out Jacob Lalrawngbawla. With both teams now thoroughly fired up, the action was intense from the start of the second session, with both teams pressing for the lead. After an hour's play, Subash Singh was brought on in place of Seikhohao Tuboi. Both teams had to defend frantically. First Lajong in the 62nd minute and later the visitors with Boithang Haokip and Subash partnering well together. Lajong then earned three corners from the 73rd minute. Paul was called upon to make three saves to rescue his team. The momentum was all for the home side by this point and the crowd really got behind the Reds. Another left-footer from Uilliams was saved by Paul, but the ball was not adequately cleared and the Brazilian quickly got the ball back. His cross was met by the head of Matsugae, whose effort went wide. Subash earned his team another good chance just a minute later in the 79th. The diminutive striker got past his marker and put in a beautiful header, but an even better save from Paul kept the scores level. After what seemed like a good 20 minutes of being stuck in their own half, Bagan finally managed to saunter forward in the last five minutes on a couple of occasions, but no further goals materialised, although there were tense moments for both sides before the final whistle blew.- published: 13 Nov 2013

Dempo FC 1-0 Churchill Brothers | Jeje Lalpekhlua goal!! I League 2013-14
Credits : AIFF , https://www.facebook.com/ILeagueOfficial 6 Nov 2013 Duler: Jeje Lalpekhlua - right (file photo)Jeje Lalpekhlua did the star turn for Dempo Sports Club as his first-half strike proved decisive in his team's 1-0 win over defending champions Churchill Brothers in an I-League match at Duler Stadium in Mapusa here on Wednesday. The all-important goal came in the 15th minute through Jeje Lalpekhlua, which ultimately turned out to be the match winner and helped Dempo move to eighth place with 10 points from eight matches. Churchill Brothers who are yet to win a match remained on 12th place with three points from eight matches. Dempo had given an excellent account of themselves in the 3-1 demolition of East Bengal away in Kalyani for their first win in the competition. But the former champions slumped to an unexpected defeat against Bengaluru Football Club, also away, in the next match. However, Dempo were back to their fluent self as Jeje Lalpekhlua's 14th minute goal proved to be the essential difference between the two struggling sides. The win will help calm Arthur Papas' nerves going into the fortnight long international break, but it only adds to woes at the other end. Churchill Brothers are now without a win in eight matches and are tied on points (3) with bottom-placed Rangdajied United FC. Both the teams knew that a win was a must heading into the break. Dempo coach Arthur Papas did not make too many changes, but was forced to start with Jeje upfront as the lone striker due to an injury to Irish first-choice striker Billy Mehmet. Jeje did not take too much of a time to launch himself into the attack. In the 12th minute he announced his arrival with a smart header that goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya somehow managed to get a hand to, and the crossbar then came to Churchill's rescue. Two minutes later, Jeje opened Dempo's account after he read Beto's through ball and had all the time in the world to slam the ball past the Churchill goalkeeper. Churchill relied too much on the counter and one such opportunity should have resulted in the equaliser. Henri Arnaud had a good look at the rival goal from close, but he instead chose to pass the ball to Hugo Machado, where he was easily dispossessed. Minutes before the change of ends, Bineesh Balan brought a good save out of Subhashish Roy Chowdhury with a stinging shot from just outside the box. In the second session, Dempo had two good chances to kill the game, but Jeje missed two chances and another volley from Beto sailed too wide. Churchill technical director Subhash Bhowmick made three quick changes, though nothing worked. All that they got were half chances that neither Henri or Balwant Singh could convert.- published: 07 Nov 2013

United SC defender Bello Rassaq was the player sent off after receiving two yellows but the purple shirts held on for a point. Bolstered by five new signings, Mohammedan Sporting came into this game full of confidence as they grabbed their first win of the season on round five against Rangdajied United. Only two of those new players -- Manish Maithani and Luis Barreto -- were named in the match squad by coach Moshood Bola Abdul Aziz and with the backing of their passionate fans the 122-year-old club made a fast start. Young Collin Abranches and Australian Tolgay Ozbey both tested United SC goalkeeper Sangram Mukherjee while at the other end Mohammedan Sporting was looking solid in defence following the return of Brazilian Luciano Sobrosa from injury. The first real opening of the game came when Tolgay got behind the United SC backline but Sangram came out of his goal quickly and cleared the danger. Straight at the other end midfielder Shouvik Chakraborty narrowly missed for United SC. Mohammedan Sporting had a goal disallowed just before the halftime break as Josimar was adjudged to have fouled Rassaq before scoring past Sangram. The second half took time to come alive but United SC slowly started having more possession and then Eric Brown had the best attempt of the match as his left-footed effort from just outside the box hit the bar after taking a touch off Mohammedan Sporting custodian Ashok Singh. Mohammedan Sporting's three foreign attackers -- Penn Orji, Josimar and Tolgay -- were all seeing the ball a lot in key areas but each of them did not fully capitalise either with their final ball or finish. Around the midway point of the second half, United SC's star striker Ranti Martins also started to have a bigger influence on the game as he was starting to link up more with his midfielders. But the game turned in Mohammedan Sporting's favour when Bello was shown his second yellow for a foul on Josimar in the 71st minute. However Mohammedan Sporting failed to capitalise on their numerical advantage with their only genuine opportunity coming when Sangram failed to a collect a cross from Penn but Josimar's effort was cleared off the line by Dhanachandra Singh. United SC defended solidly and could have even got the maximum points as Ranti went agonisingly close with a powerful effort from just outside the box. The result drops United SC to fifth place with the purple shirts are without a win in four matches now while Mohammedan Sporting are 10th with four points from five matches.- published: 31 Oct 2013
