Governor Steve Beshear has proclaimed October 2013 as Blindness & Visual Impairment Awareness Month in Kentucky. The purpose of the proclamation is to bring statewide attention to Kentuckians who are blind or visually impaired and their families; to empower families and communities to provide supports and resources that will assist members who are blind and visually impaired; and, to advocate on the behalf of these individuals and their families. Visually Impaired Preschool Services (VIPS) along with 20 other agencies have joined forces to help spread the word of the abilities of Kentuckians who are blind or visually impaired. Our partners include: American Printing House for the Blind (APH), Beep Baseball, Bluegrass Council of the Blind, C.A.L.E.B.S, Central Kentucky Radio Eye, Foundation Fighting Blindness, Guide Dog Users of Kentucky, Independence Place, ITNBluegrass, Kentuckiana Regional Group Blinded Veterans Association, Inc.- Lexington Chapter, Kentucky Council of the Blind, Kentucky Office for the Blind, Kentucky School for the Blind (KSB), KSB Charitable Foundation, National Federation of the Blind of Lexington, National Federation of the Blind of Greater Louisville, KY NFB -- NEWSLINE, Patrick Henry Hughes Family, See the World Low Vision Store, and the University of Kentucky Visual Impairment Program.
