Pune

Pune (IPA: [puɳe] English pronunciation: /ˈpuːnə/;) (Marathi: पुणे) is the ninth-most populous city in India and the second largest in the state of Maharashtra after the state capital city of Mumbai. Pune is also the 101st largest city in the world, by population.

It is situated 560 metres (1,837 feet) above sea level on the Deccan plateau, on the right bank of the Mutha river. Pune city is the administrative headquarters of Pune district and was once the centre of power of the Maratha Empire established by Shivaji Maharaj.

In the 18th century, Pune became the political centre of the Indian subcontinent, as the seat of Peshwas who were the prime ministers of the Maratha Empire.

Pune is considered the cultural capital of Maharashtra. Since the 1950s and 1960s, Pune has a traditional old-economic base . Most of the old industries continue to grow. The city is also known for its manufacturing and automobiles industries, as well as for research institutes of information technology(IT), education, management and training, which attract migrants, students, and professionals from India, South East Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Pune is also one of the fastest growing cities in the Asia-Pacific region. The ‘Mercer 2015 Quality of Living rankings’ evaluated local living conditions in more than 440 cities around the world where Pune ranked at 145, second in India after Hyderabad(138). It also highlights Pune among evolving business centers and emerging 9 cities around the world with citation "Hosts IT and automotive companies"

Massey Ferguson

Massey Ferguson Limited is a major agricultural equipment manufacturer that was based in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, before it was purchased by AGCO. The company was formed by a merger of Massey Harris and the Ferguson Company farm machinery manufacturer in 1953, creating the company Massey Harris Ferguson. However, in 1958, the name was shortened for the first time to coin the brand Massey Ferguson. Today, the company exists as a brand name used by AGCO and remains a major seller around the world.

History

The firm was founded in 1847 in Newcastle, Ontario by Daniel Massey as the Newcastle Foundry and Machine Manufactory. The company began making some of the world's first mechanical threshers, first by assembling parts from the United States and eventually designing and building their own equipment. The firm was taken over and expanded by Daniel's eldest son Hart Massey who renamed it the Massey Manufacturing Co. and in 1879 moved the company to Toronto where it soon became one of the city's leading employers. The massive collection of factories, consisting of a 4.4 hectares (11 acres) site with plant and head office at 915 King Street West, became one of the best known features of the city. Massey expanded the company and began to sell its products internationally. Through extensive advertising campaigns he made it one of the most well known brands in Canada. A labour shortage throughout the country also helped to make the firm's mechanized equipment very attractive.

Barbeque Nation

Barbeque Nation is an Indian restaurant chain owned by Indore-based Sayaji Hotels Limited. The first restaurant opened in Mumbai in January 2006. The restaurant chain also has private equity firm CX Partners as its investor. Shortly after its start in Mumbai, it opened in other cities such as Hyderabad,Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Bangalore, Lucknow, Chennai, Pune,Panjim, Kolkata and Guwahati.

Background

The restaurant first opened in January 2006 in Mumbai with the idea of setting up outlets in other major cities like Hyderabad, Lucknow, Pune, Delhi, Bengaluru,Raipur, Vijayawada, Chennai, Chandigarh, Guwahati, Kolkata, Panjim, Ahmedabad, Surat, Visakhapatnam, Kolhapur, Mangaluru Nagpur and Coimbatore.

Expansion

In 2007, additional restaurants were opened in Bangalore and Hyderabad.

As of 2008, the company had plans to open centres across Dubai, Singapore, and the United Kingdom, after establishing itself as a major restaurant chain in India.

In addition to the Mumbai and Pune it has outlets in various other cities such as Vijayawada, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Mohali, Gurgaon, Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Nagpur,Panjim, Visakhapatnam, Vadodara and Surat.

Deccan Gymkhana

Deccan Gymkhana is an area in Pune city. It lies in the centre of the city. This area has lots of cafes, entertainment areas, restaurants, shopping malls and shops and is one of the major areas of Pune. Important roads like Karve Road, Jangli Maharaj Road and Fergusson College Road originate in this area. This area is well linked to the different areas of Pune by PMPML buses. This area is close to the Pune Municipal Corporation. This area has Sambhaji Park, one of the famous parks in the city. Tilak Road serves as a link between Swargate and Deccan Gymkhana, while the Laxmi Road links this area to Pune Cantonment. This area also has the famous Deccan Gymkhana Sports Club and the PYC Hindu Gymkhana. There is famous Temple of Lord Hanuman, Balbheem Temple in the area. The area is surrounded with greenery.

Entertainment & Food

Entertainment areas like the Balgandharva drama theater, Alka Cinema hall and the City Pride Multiplex (opposite to Deccan Gymkhana PMPML depot) are situated in this area. Restaurants like KFC, McDonald's and Pizza Hut on Jangli Maharaj road Vaishali and Rupali on Fergusson College road are located in this area. The famous Irani cafe, "Cafe Good Luck" was established here in 1935, on the Fergusson College Road.
