Damian Howard Green (born 17 January 1956) is a British politician who has been the Conservative Member of Parliament for Ashford since 1997. He came to national prominence after being elected in his constituency. Before standing for parliament, Damian Green was Channel 4's business editor. On 13 May 2010 he was appointed Immigration Minister in the newly formed Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government under David Cameron.
Damian Green was born in Barry, Wales. He grew up in Reading, Berkshire and was educated at Reading School and then at Balliol College, Oxford where he was awarded a BA degree in PPE in 1977 followed by a master's degree. He was President of the Oxford Union in 1977 and was the vice chairman of the Federation of Conservative Students (now known as Conservative Future) for two years from 1980.
In 1978 he was appointed by BBC Radio as a financial journalist, before joining Channel 4 News as a business producer in 1982. He joined The Times for a year in 1984 as the business news editor, before returning to television journalism and Channel 4 as the business editor in 1985. He became the City editor and also a television presenter on Channel 4's Business Daily television programme in 1987 until he left television to join Prime Minister John Major's Policy Unit in 1992. Green had acted as an occasional speech writer for Major since 1988. He left 10 Downing Street in 1994 to run his own public affairs consultancy.
Aaron Watson is an Texas country music singer.
Watson was born in Amarillo, Texas and attended Abilene Christian University, where he began learning guitar, after playing junior college baseball in New Mexico. He gigged around Texas before releasing his debut album, A Texas Cafe; the follow-up, Shuttupanddance, was a regional sales success. His 2004 album, The Honky Tonk Kid, was produced by Ray Benson and features an appearance from Willie Nelson. Watson's band is called the Orphans of the Brazos; they appear on his 2005 album, Live at the Texas Hall of Fame. In 2006, his San Angelo release hit #60 on the U.S. Billboard country charts and #50 on its Heatseekers chart.
Later that year, Watson released a collection of gospel songs entitled Barbed Wire Halo which includes readings by Billy Joe Shaver. On April 1, 2008, Watson's 8th album, Angels & Outlaws, reached #4 on the U.S. Billboard Heatseekers chart, #28 on its Country Albums chart, and landed in the The Billboard Top 200. The album's debut single, "Hearts Are Breaking Across Texas", reached the #1 spot on the Texas Music Chart. "Love Makin' Song" was released later that year, and "Rollercoaster Ride" followed in 2009.
Sadiq Aman Khan (born 8 October 1970) is a British Labour Party politician, who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tooting since 2005, succeeding Tom Cox as the Labour MP for the seat. On 3rd October 2008 he was appointed by Prime Minister Gordon Brown as a Minister for Communities and Local government, making him only the second ever Muslim to become a Minister in the UK. He is currently the Shadow Lord Chancellor and Justice Secretary (with responsibility for political and constitutional reform) since 8 October 2010.
Khan was born in 1970 in London, to a family of Pakistani immigrants. His father worked as a bus driver. He grew up in a council flat on the Henry Prince Estate in Earlsfield, and attended Fircroft Primary and Ernest Bevin Schools, before going to the University of North London to study law.
He was a visiting lecturer at the University of North London, and a former governor of South Thames FE College. Khan served as Vice Chair of the Legal Action Group (LAG). He served as Chair of the civil liberties pressure group Liberty (NCCL) for three years.
