Viinan vartija ALKO - Kieltolaista nykypäivään (dokumentti) vuodelta 1982
Suomalaisen viinapolitiikan vartija, pohjolan kannattavin yritys, valtio valtiossa ja neljä tuttua kirjainta viinakaupan oven päällä." Alkon 50-vuotispäivien merkeissä tehty dokumentti valaisee Alkon ja suomalaisten viinankäytön historiaa.
1930-luvun alussa Ahvenanmerellä ja Suomenlahdella käytiin pirtusotaa. Vuodesta 1919 lähtien voimassa ollut kieltolaki esti alkoholipitoisten aineiden valmistuksen, maahantuonnin ja myynnin, muttei selvästikään tehnyt kansasta raitista. Pirtutaistelun osapuolina olivat kekseliäät ja keinoja kaihtamattomat salakuljettajat ja varsin puutteellisesti varautuneet tulli- ja merivartijat.
Salakuljetuksen lisäksi kieltolakia uhmattiin viinan salapoltolla. Myös apteekkari- ja lääkärikunnan omatunto alkoi, etenkin niillä alueilla joilla pirtua oli vähemmän saatavilla, sallia lääkitsemisen alkoholipitoisella aineella.
Tiensä päähän tullut kieltolaki kumottiin lopulta 29.--30. joulukuuta 1931 pidetyssä kansanäänestyksessä, jossa yli 70 prosenttia äänesti lain kumoamisen puolesta.
Alkoholijuomien tuotantoa ja kauppaa alkoi yksinoikeudella hoitaa valtion määräysvallassa Oy Alkoholiliike Ab. Ensimmäiset liikkeet avattiin 5. huhtikuuta 1932 kello 10.00.
Alkoholilaki on säilynyt lähestulkoon samanlaisena läpi vuosikymmenien. Merkittävin muutos oli vuonna 1969 voimaan tullut keskiolutlaki, joka antoi oikeuden myydä kolmosluokan olutta elintarvikeliikkeissä. Viinakorteista, johon ostokset kirjattiin, luovuttiin 70-luvun alussa.
Alko tuottaa ja valvoo
Alkoholijuomissa käytetty väkiviina valmistuu Koskenkorvan tehtailla.Dokumentissa seurataan ohran monivaiheista matkaa pellolta viinapulloihin ja kansalaisten pöytiin.
Muiden teollisuuslaitosten tavoin Alkokin pyrkii mahdollisimman taloudelliseen tuotantoon sekä valvoo tuotteidensa laatua. Poikkeuksellisempaa on se, että Alkossa tutkitaan myös mitä vaikutuksia sen tuotteilla on käyttäjälle.
"Suomalainen alkoholinkuluttaja voi ostaa pullonsa luottavaisin mielin, sen vaarallisin osa on sen sisältämä etyylialkoholi" toteaa Alkon tuotanto- ja tutkimusjohtaja Kalervo Eriksson.
Alkon keskuslaboratoriossa alkoholin vaikutusta tutkitaan mm. rottakokein. Ylikari esittelee kokeen, jossa rotat joutuvat tasapainottelemaan pyörivän alustan päällä. Rotta, jolle on juotettu alkoholia, tipahtaa alustalta nopeammin kuin selvät lajitoverinsa.
Viinaan menevä kansa ja raittiusseuralainen Alkon johtaja
Alkoholin käytön kasvaessa myös sen haittavaikutukset lisääntyvät. Työikäisten kuolemista ja henkirikoksista valtaosa johtuu alkoholin käytöstä.
"Olisi tärkeää tutkia, mistä kulttuurimme peruspiirteistä suomalainen viinapää imee pontensa", toteaa eräs dokumentissa haastateltu tutkija.
Dokumentin loppupuolella haastatellaan Alkon pitkäaikaista pääjohtajaa Pekka Kuusta, jonka tausta on yllättäen raittiusliikkeessä. Toimittaja tiedusteleekin: "Ostiko suurliike hankalan maisterin pois markkinoilta?" Kuusi toteaa väitteessä oleva kenties perää, mutta kertoo uskoneensa vaikutusmahdollisuuksiin Alkon sisällä
Kuusi sanoo alkoholipoliitiikan olevan suomalaisille uskomattoman tärkeä asia. "Harvassa maassa on puhuttu ja kirjoitettu alkoholista ja alkoholipolitiikasta niin paljon kuin Suomessa". Hänen mielestään silloinen alkoholipoliitiikka soi juuri sen verran vapautta kuin suomalainen ansaitsi ja sieti.
Kuusi pohtii ihmisen tarvetta juoda alkoholia seuraavasti: "Ihminen tarvitsee keskushermoston ohjailua ollakseen ihminen, mutta kun alkoholi vaikuttaa ennenkaikkea juuri keskushermoston toimintaan, niin me alkoholia ottamalla ikäänkuin kevennämme ihmisenä olemisemme taakkaa"

Alko
Alko is the national alcoholic beverage retailing monopoly in Finland. It is the only store in the country which retails beer over 4.7% ABV, wine (except in vineyards) and spirits. Alcoholic beverages are also sold in licensed restaurants and bars but only for consumption on the premises. Alko is required by law to sell drinks with lower alcohol content than 4.7% and non-alcoholic alternatives, but in practice carries a very limited stock of low alcohol beer, cider and non-alcoholic drinks and mixers as supermarkets sell the same products at a lower price. By law, alcoholic drinks may only be sold to those aged 18 or above.
Products
As the only retailer of strong alcoholic beverages in Finland, Alko has an extensive range of products ranging from rare wines to bulk vodka. Its wine selection has grown in recent decades as there has been an increase in consumption and a government drive to change Finnish drinking habits to a more "European" style, which means a move from hard liquor to wine and beer. While wine consumption has increased, this has not replaced consumption of other alcoholic beverages, negating the "Europeanization" argument. Nowadays wines occupy most of the shelf space in an Alko shop. Its beer selection is concentrated on stronger versions of the domestic bulk lagers and some high-quality strong beers from major beer-producing countries as well as traditional Sahti at some locations. Hard spirits include several Finnish brands of vodka and all major types of hard liquor. Alko also sells brands of drinks produced by the Finnish state-owned company Altia, which are traditional products and not sold abroad. Many of these date back to the first products launched after the end of the Prohibition. These are usually for mixing drinks.

1930-luvun alussa Ahvenanmerellä ja Suomenlahdella käytiin pirtusotaa. Vuodesta 1919 lähtien voimassa ollut kieltolaki esti alkoholipitoisten aineiden valmistuksen, maahantuonnin ja myynnin, muttei selvästikään tehnyt kansasta raitista. Pirtutaistelun osapuolina olivat kekseliäät ja keinoja kaihtamattomat salakuljettajat ja varsin puutteellisesti varautuneet tulli- ja merivartijat.
Salakuljetuksen lisäksi kieltolakia uhmattiin viinan salapoltolla. Myös apteekkari- ja lääkärikunnan omatunto alkoi, etenkin niillä alueilla joilla pirtua oli vähemmän saatavilla, sallia lääkitsemisen alkoholipitoisella aineella.
Tiensä päähän tullut kieltolaki kumottiin lopulta 29.--30. joulukuuta 1931 pidetyssä kansanäänestyksessä, jossa yli 70 prosenttia äänesti lain kumoamisen puolesta.
Alkoholijuomien tuotantoa ja kauppaa alkoi yksinoikeudella hoitaa valtion määräysvallassa Oy Alkoholiliike Ab. Ensimmäiset liikkeet avattiin 5. huhtikuuta 1932 kello 10.00.
Alkoholilaki on säilynyt lähestulkoon samanlaisena läpi vuosikymmenien. Merkittävin muutos oli vuonna 1969 voimaan tullut keskiolutlaki, joka antoi oikeuden myydä kolmosluokan olutta elintarvikeliikkeissä. Viinakorteista, johon ostokset kirjattiin, luovuttiin 70-luvun alussa.
Alko tuottaa ja valvoo
Alkoholijuomissa käytetty väkiviina valmistuu Koskenkorvan tehtailla.Dokumentissa seurataan ohran monivaiheista matkaa pellolta viinapulloihin ja kansalaisten pöytiin.
Muiden teollisuuslaitosten tavoin Alkokin pyrkii mahdollisimman taloudelliseen tuotantoon sekä valvoo tuotteidensa laatua. Poikkeuksellisempaa on se, että Alkossa tutkitaan myös mitä vaikutuksia sen tuotteilla on käyttäjälle.
"Suomalainen alkoholinkuluttaja voi ostaa pullonsa luottavaisin mielin, sen vaarallisin osa on sen sisältämä etyylialkoholi" toteaa Alkon tuotanto- ja tutkimusjohtaja Kalervo Eriksson.
Alkon keskuslaboratoriossa alkoholin vaikutusta tutkitaan mm. rottakokein. Ylikari esittelee kokeen, jossa rotat joutuvat tasapainottelemaan pyörivän alustan päällä. Rotta, jolle on juotettu alkoholia, tipahtaa alustalta nopeammin kuin selvät lajitoverinsa.
Viinaan menevä kansa ja raittiusseuralainen Alkon johtaja
Alkoholin käytön kasvaessa myös sen haittavaikutukset lisääntyvät. Työikäisten kuolemista ja henkirikoksista valtaosa johtuu alkoholin käytöstä.
"Olisi tärkeää tutkia, mistä kulttuurimme peruspiirteistä suomalainen viinapää imee pontensa", toteaa eräs dokumentissa haastateltu tutkija.
Dokumentin loppupuolella haastatellaan Alkon pitkäaikaista pääjohtajaa Pekka Kuusta, jonka tausta on yllättäen raittiusliikkeessä. Toimittaja tiedusteleekin: "Ostiko suurliike hankalan maisterin pois markkinoilta?" Kuusi toteaa väitteessä oleva kenties perää, mutta kertoo uskoneensa vaikutusmahdollisuuksiin Alkon sisällä
Kuusi sanoo alkoholipoliitiikan olevan suomalaisille uskomattoman tärkeä asia. "Harvassa maassa on puhuttu ja kirjoitettu alkoholista ja alkoholipolitiikasta niin paljon kuin Suomessa". Hänen mielestään silloinen alkoholipoliitiikka soi juuri sen verran vapautta kuin suomalainen ansaitsi ja sieti.
Kuusi pohtii ihmisen tarvetta juoda alkoholia seuraavasti: "Ihminen tarvitsee keskushermoston ohjailua ollakseen ihminen, mutta kun alkoholi vaikuttaa ennenkaikkea juuri keskushermoston toimintaan, niin me alkoholia ottamalla ikäänkuin kevennämme ihmisenä olemisemme taakkaa"

Pirtutaistelun osapuolina olivat kekseliäät ja keinoja kaihtamattomat salakuljettajat ja varsin puutteellisesti varautuneet tulli- ja merivartijat.
Salakuljetuksen lisäksi kieltolakia uhmattiin viinan salapoltolla. Myös apteekkari- ja lääkärikunnan omatunto alkoi, etenkin niillä alueilla joilla pirtua oli vähemmän saatavilla, sallia lääkitsemisen alkoholipitoisella aineella.
Tiensä päähän tullut kieltolaki kumottiin lopulta 29.--30. joulukuuta 1931 pidetyssä kansanäänestyksessä, jossa yli 70 prosenttia äänesti lain kumoamisen puolesta.
Alkoholijuomien tuotantoa ja kauppaa alkoi yksinoikeudella hoitaa valtion määräysvallassa Oy Alkoholiliike Ab. Ensimmäiset liikkeet avattiin 5. huhtikuuta 1932 kello 10.00.
Alkoholilaki on säilynyt lähestulkoon samanlaisena läpi vuosikymmenien. Merkittävin muutos oli vuonna 1969 voimaan tullut keskiolutlaki, joka antoi oikeuden myydä kolmosluokan olutta elintarvikeliikkeissä. Viinakorteista, johon ostokset kirjattiin, luovuttiin 70-luvun alussa.
Alko tuottaa ja valvoo
Alkoholijuomissa käytetty väkiviina valmistuu Koskenkorvan tehtailla.Dokumentissa seurataan ohran monivaiheista matkaa pellolta viinapulloihin ja kansalaisten pöytiin.
Muiden teollisuuslaitosten tavoin Alkokin pyrkii mahdollisimman taloudelliseen tuotantoon sekä valvoo tuotteidensa laatua. Poikkeuksellisempaa on se, että Alkossa tutkitaan myös mitä vaikutuksia sen tuotteilla on käyttäjälle.
"Suomalainen alkoholinkuluttaja voi ostaa pullonsa luottavaisin mielin, sen vaarallisin osa on sen sisältämä etyylialkoholi" toteaa Alkon tuotanto- ja tutkimusjohtaja Kalervo Eriksson.
Alkon keskuslaboratoriossa alkoholin vaikutusta tutkitaan mm. rottakokein. Ylikari esittelee kokeen, jossa rotat joutuvat tasapainottelemaan pyörivän alustan päällä. Rotta, jolle on juotettu alkoholia, tipahtaa alustalta nopeammin kuin selvät lajitoverinsa.
Viinaan menevä kansa ja raittiusseuralainen Alkon johtaja
Alkoholin käytön kasvaessa myös sen haittavaikutukset lisääntyvät. Työikäisten kuolemista ja henkirikoksista valtaosa johtuu alkoholin käytöstä.
"Olisi tärkeää tutkia, mistä kulttuurimme peruspiirteistä suomalainen viinapää imee pontensa", toteaa eräs dokumentissa haastateltu tutkija.
Dokumentin loppupuolella haastatellaan Alkon pitkäaikaista pääjohtajaa Pekka Kuusta, jonka tausta on yllättäen raittiusliikkeessä. Toimittaja tiedusteleekin: "Ostiko suurliike hankalan maisterin pois markkinoilta?" Kuusi toteaa väitteessä oleva kenties perää, mutta kertoo uskoneensa vaikutusmahdollisuuksiin Alkon sisällä
Kuusi sanoo alkoholipoliitiikan olevan suomalaisille uskomattoman tärkeä asia. "Harvassa maassa on puhuttu ja kirjoitettu alkoholista ja alkoholipolitiikasta niin paljon kuin Suomessa". Hänen mielestään silloinen alkoholipoliitiikka soi juuri sen verran vapautta kuin suomalainen ansaitsi ja sieti.
Kuusi pohtii ihmisen tarvetta juoda alkoholia seuraavasti: "Ihminen tarvitsee keskushermoston ohjailua ollakseen ihminen, mutta kun alkoholi vaikuttaa ennenkaikkea juuri keskushermoston toimintaan, niin me alkoholia ottamalla ikäänkuin kevennämme ihmisenä olemisemme taakkaa"
