Lotfollah Safi Golpaygani
Grand Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi Golpaygani (born February 19, 1919) is an Iranian Twelver Shia Marja. He was born in Golpaygan, Iran. He has studied in seminaries of Najaf, Iraq under Grand Ayatollah Borujerdi. He currently resides and teaches in the Seminary of Qom, Iran. He is a supporter of the Islamic revolution in Iran and is known for his fatwa calling for the death of rapper Shahin Najafi for apostasy.
Early life
His father, the late Ayatullah Akhund Mulla Muhammad al-Jawad as-Safi was a well known 'Alim and an 'Arif. He, along with being a specialist in Islamic studies, was also a researcher, writer and a teacher in various fields of Islamic sciences such as: Fiqh, ¬sul, Kalam, Akhlaq, Hadith, and other areas. He was also well versed in poetry, and calligraphy. His Taqwa, love for the Wilayat (of the Ahlul Bayt), and his firm position of upholding the concept of "Amr bil Ma'ruf wa Nahi anil Munkar" (Enjoining the Good and Forbidding the Evil), and taking a distinct stance against non-religious people had a tremendous effect on his son. His father died on the 25th of Rajab, in the year 1958, which corresponded to the night of the Shahadat of the 7th Imam, Musa al-Kazim ('a).

In a letter sent to the President of the Constitutional Court in Austria, Christoph Grabenwarter, the religious authority, Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Lotfullah Safi Golpaygani, praised the President’s decision to abolish the law banning the wearing of headscarves in primary schools in the country.
His Eminence affirmed that "the self-dignity that the Almighty has entrusted to the human being with all its ethnic, cultural, linguistic and geographical differences, has always been subjected to operations of targeting and destruction by the authoritarian regimes in the world."
He added that the intellectuals and the judiciary, which is responsible for preserving the rights of people and implementing justice in societies, play the greatest role in monitoring the performance of governments as well. These institutions bear a deterrent responsibility towards injustice and persecution of peoples, cultures, traditions and beliefs.
He continued, "This is the appropriate action taken by the Constitutional Court in Austria,” confirming its just and honorable role in protecting the religious rights of Muslims in this country.

In June 2012, forty authors of the Rah-e Nikan religious publishing house promised to give royalties from their books to whoever killed Najafi.

He has studied in seminaries of Najaf, Iraq under Grand Ayatollah Borujerdi. He currently resides and teaches in the Seminary of Qom, Iran. He is a supporter of the Islamic revolution in Iran and is known for his fatwa calling for the death of rapper Shahin Najafi for apostasy.
Early life
His father, the late Ayatullah Akhund Mulla Muhammad al-Jawad as-Safi was a well known 'Alim and an 'Arif. He, along with being a specialist in Islamic studies, was also a researcher, writer and a teacher in various fields of Islamic sciences such as: Fiqh, ¬sul, Kalam, Akhlaq, Hadith, and other areas. He was also well versed in poetry, and calligraphy. His Taqwa, love for the Wilayat (of the Ahlul Bayt), and his firm position of upholding the concept of "Amr bil Ma'ruf wa Nahi anil Munkar" (Enjoining the Good and Forbidding the Evil), and taking a distinct stance against non-religious people had a tremendous effect on his son. His father died on the 25th of Rajab, in the year 1958, which corresponded to the night of the Shahadat of the 7th Imam, Musa al-Kazim ('a).
