Ted Nelson

Theodor Holm "Ted" Nelson (born June 17, 1937) is an American pioneer of information technology, philosopher, and sociologist. He coined the terms hypertext and hypermedia in 1963 and published them in 1965. Nelson coined the terms transclusion,virtuality, and intertwingularity (in Literary Machines} .

Early life and education

Nelson is the son of Emmy Award-winning director Ralph Nelson and the Academy Award-winning actress Celeste Holm. His parents' marriage was brief and he was mostly raised by his grandparents, first in Chicago and later in Greenwich Village.

Nelson earned a BA from Swarthmore College in 1959. While there, he made an experimental humorous student film titled The Epiphany of Slocum Furlow, in which the titular hero discovers the meaning of life. His contemporary at the college, musician and composer Peter Schickele scored the film. In 1960 Nelson began graduate work at Harvard University in philosophy, earning a master's degree in sociology in 1963. Much later in life, in 2002, he obtained a Doctorate in Media and Governance from Keio University.

Ted Nelson (born c. 1942) is the former head track and field coach at Texas A&M University.

Coaching career: 1966-graduate assistant coach; 1967-89 assistant coach; 1989-90 assistant head coach; 1990-2004 head coach. Nelson retired in 2004 and was replaced by Pat Henry

A 2-time Big 12 Coach of the Year, Nelson’s 400-meter relay team finished second at the NCAA meet three times and won the national title in 1988 and won another title in 1997. A&M's 1600-meter relay won the outdoor championship in 1989 and an indoor crown in 1994. During his 14 years as head coach, Nelson led the Aggies to one Big 12 team championship and 17 Top 25 men’s and women’s team finishes at nationals.

While an athlete at Texas A&M Nelson once owned 13 school records. Including: 1964 Southwest Conference record holder in 440-yard dash, 1964 SWC champion in 440- yard dash and he was a 1965 Aggie football letterman.

Turner Field

Turner Field is a baseball park located in Atlanta, Georgia. Since 1997, it has served as the home ballpark to the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball (MLB). Originally built as Centennial Olympic Stadium in 1996 to serve as the centerpiece of the 1996 Summer Olympics, the stadium was converted into a baseball park to serve as the new home of the team. The Braves moved less than one block from Atlanta–Fulton County Stadium, which served as their home ballpark from 1966 to 1996 (31 years).

Opening during the Braves' "division dominance" years, Turner Field has hosted the National League Division Series a total of 11 times (1997–2005, 2010, 2013); it has also hosted the National League Championship Series four times (1997–1999, 2001), as well as one World Series (1999), one NL Wild Card Game (2012, the first in baseball history), and the 2000 Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

On November 11, 2013, the Braves announced that they would leave Turner Field for SunTrust Park. The new ballpark is located in Cobb County, in the northwest suburbs outside of Atlanta. This was prompted by the expiration of the lease (in 2016) allowing the Braves to play in Turner Field. They will play their final regular season game there against the Detroit Tigers on October 2, 2016. The new stadium is being constructed in a public/private partnership. On November 11, 2013 Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed announced that the Turner Field site would be redeveloped once the Braves vacate the stadium. On December 21, 2015, Georgia State University submitted the winning bid for the Turner Field property.
