United in support... From Hurricane Sandy to Sandy Hook, from the Boston bombings to Philadelphia's building collapse this past June, this has been the year of the first responder. We invite you to stand with American communities as the World Affairs Council presents its 2013 Atlas Award in recognition of, and gratitude to, the men and women who so bravely respond when disaster strikes. The Council invites these heroes to be guests at this special event as we pay tribute to those who serve our communities by being the first on the scene in critical situations. And acknowledging sacrifice... This unique event will acknowledge, in a meaningful way, the sacrifices made by first responders. To this end, your generosity will be reflected in a gift to the Newtown Lions Club Foundation -- Sandy Hook Elementary Fund and the Philadelphia Hero Thrill Show. Governor of Connecticut Dannel P. Malloy accepted the 2013 Atlas Award on behalf of our nation's first responders.
