Hey, I'm Student Doctor Thompson
In this video I share some advice I have for High School and Premed students who wish to get into medical school. I skimmed over the "traditional" advice and went into what I think is much more important. I don't think you should forget about YOU. Medical school will be an option for just about anyone who wants it badly enough, so I'm not as concerned about you getting accepted, because I know if it is important enough it WILL happen, as I am concerned about the quality of life doctors will have in the future. It all starts with high school when we can really step back and make sure life isn't so serious that we loose track of what it is really all about and head for an unwavering path to premed, med school, residency, and a career that we aren't really even sure we want anymore. I talk about ruling out other options before starting medical school, hopefully to avoid having a mid-life crisis of sorts, or a mid-training crisis and hopefully to avoid leaving medicine all together. Anyways, it is clear that I'm not very good at writing, so I'll stop. Thank you for watching, please comment if you feel so inclined, and please subscribe to follow future videos from yours truly.

Medical interviews tend to follow a very strict format- thus, they are very predictable. However, this means it is a lot harder to stand out from the crowd. The key here is to not only have excellent interview skills, but to also prepare and be comfortable with key areas and issues in modern medicine e.g. medical ethics, current affairs, and ‘difficult scenarios’.
"What will I be asked at my Medical School interview?". This is a question we repeatedly get asked and instead of TELLING you, we wanted to SHOW you.
To do this, we asked our Expert Medical tutors to stage a 'good' and 'bad' interview. The results are here for you to see!
Each interview ends with feedback that is provided at the end of all our mock interviews.

Late summer and fall is medical school interview season in the premed community! I hosted a Google Hangout with some members from INQUARTA.com to talk about med school interviews.
Here are the key points:
The normal medical school admissions sequence is: Rejections, getting wait listed, then receiving interview invites. If you've only gotten rejections and wait listings, hold tight. Your invitations should be coming soon.
What should you do when you get wait listed?
Getting wait listed by medical schools isn't the greatest things, but it's also not terrible. Tip: Don't spam the admissions committee with content that doesn't help you. If you do have an update worth sending, don't wait! Send it in right away. For instance, if you've landed a great research opportunity or had a paper published, let medical schools know.
Not getting the interview invitations you thought you would?
The issue is usually the timing of your primary application and your secondary application. If you were late to apply and late to receive verification, your interview invitations will come later.
Also, if your choice of schools was too "top-heavy," you may not get many interview invitations.
What’s left to do after you’ve done the traditional stuff?
Leverage relationships! Reach out as far as you can to find anyone you might know who can put in a good word for you with medical schools.
When you're on a wait list, you're in limbo. It feels like you've lost control, and it's tough. The best thing for you to do is stay positive, so that when you do receive invitations you'll be in the best possible mindset. If you're stressed out for months and months, it will show in your interviews.
Believe in yourself and stay positive!

THIS VIDEO IS CURRENTLY BEING CAPTIONED.
The White Coat Ceremony is an auspicious experience as students enter medical school. In the presence of family, guests, and faculty members, students are welcomed into the medical community by leaders of the medical center and ceremonially "cloaked" with their white coat. Then, dressed in white, they stand to take the ancient Oath of Hippocrates, traditionally sworn at graduation.
By establishing this meaningful ritual at the beginning of medical school, we hope students will become aware of their responsibilities from the first day of training. The ceremony is intended to impress upon them the primacy of the doctor-patient relationship. It encourages them to enter into a psychological contract in which they accept the obligations inherent in the practice of medicine: to be excellent in science, to be compassionate, and to lead lives of "uprightness and honor." It is designed to clarify for students that a physician's responsibility is to take care of patients and also to care for patients. The message transmitted is that doctors should "care" as well as "cure."
Enthusiasm for the White Coat Ceremony continues to grow. In 1994, The Arnold P. Gold Foundation sponsored three ceremonies. In 1995, entering students at four additional medical schools including the University of Iowa participated in White Coat Ceremonies sponsored by The Gold Foundation. Currently, a White Coat Ceremony or similar rite of passage takes place at 97% of AAMC-accredited schools of medicine in the United States and Canada. The Foundation's goal is that medical schools will make the White Coat Ceremony the highlight of their student orientation programs.
