Thaipusam Hindu festival

A Hindu devotee has his back pierced with hooks and weighed down with lime before starting his pilgrimage to the sacred Batu Caves temple during Thaipusam festival in Batu Caves, outside Kuala Lumpur.

Thaipusam is a Hindu festival observed on the day of the full moon during the Tamil calendar month of Thai, and celebrated in honour of the Hindu god Lord Murugan.
