A Nightmare on Elm Street is a 1984 American slasher film directed and written by Wes Craven, and the first film of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. The film features Heather Langenkamp, John Saxon, Ronee Blakley, Amanda Wyss, Jsu Garcia, Robert Englund, and Johnny Depp in his feature film debut. Set in the fictional Midwestern town of Springwood, Ohio, the plot revolves around several teenagers who, if they fall asleep, will be killed by Freddy Krueger in their dreams, thus causing their deaths in reality. The teenagers are unaware of the cause of this strange phenomenon, but their parents hold a dark secret from long ago.

Craven produced A Nightmare on Elm Street on an estimated budget of just $1.8 million, a sum the film earned back during its first week. An instant commercial success, the film's total United States box office gross is $25.5 million.A Nightmare on Elm Street was met with rave critical reviews and went on to make a very significant impact on the horror genre, spawning a franchise consisting of a line of sequels, a television series, a crossover with Friday the 13th, a remake, and various other works of imitation.

Jonathan Turley (born May 6, 1961) is an American lawyer, legal scholar, writer, commentator, and legal analyst in broadcast and print journalism. He is currently a professor of law at The George Washington University Law School.

Turley received his bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago in 1983 and his Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern University School of Law in 1987.

He served as a House leadership page in 1977 and 1978 under the sponsorship of Illinois Democrat Sidney Yates.

In 2008, he was awarded a Doctorate of Law (Hon.) from John Marshall Law School in recognition of his career as an advocate of civil liberties and constitutional rights.

Turley currently lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife Leslie.

Currently Turley holds the Shapiro Chair for Public Interest Law at The George Washington University Law School where he teaches torts, criminal procedure, and environmental law. He runs the Project for Older Prisoners (POPS), the Environmental Law Clinic, and the Environmental Legislation Project. In the classroom, he is known for his self-deprecating humor and for his engaging teaching style, in which he uses entertaining stories drawn from his real-world experiences.

Eva Herman (born Eva Feldker 9 November 1958 in Emden, Lower Saxony)^{[citation needed]} is a German author and television presenter. She worked as a news presenter on the nationwide Tagesschau news programme from 1989 to 2006 and also presented various other television programmes for the Norddeutscher Rundfunk until 2007. In 2003, an opinion poll by TNS Emnid professed Herman to be "Germany's favourite presenter". However, a number of her statements in books and the media regarding gender roles and family values led to widespread public controversy in 2006 and her dismissal from the German national broadcaster ARD the following year.

Herman in 2006 and 2007 published two controversially received books regarding to her beliefs on gender roles and family policy. In the public debate that followed^{[citation needed]}, Eva Herman gave a public comment in a press conference where she stated that the esteem for motherhood had been abolished by the 68 movement along many values after they were abused by the Nazis. She explicitly distanced herself from every praise for the Nazis, but criticised the 68er's iconoclastic attempt to redefine values and traditions. On grounds of this statement she was subsequently accused^{[by whom?]} of promoting Nazi ideals.
