Preparations are being made at Ariel Sharon\'s ranch in southern Israel ahead of the state funeral for the late Israeli leader. The site will be open to the general public but Sharon\'s grave will be accessible by family and friends. 200 police officers will be on duty during the funeral procession whilst military police will be deployed around settlements near the Gaza Strip. Sharon has been lying in state at the Israeli parliament where hundreds of mourners came to pay their final respects. Israel\'s 11th Prime Minister, Sharon passed away on Saturday at the age of 85 after being in a coma for 8 years. Today, after two weeks of fighting in South Sudan that is believed to have killed more than 1,000 people, representatives from both the government and rebel forces met in Ethiopia to discuss the possibility of peace.

But back in South Sudan, the fighting continued.

Both sides hope to gain territory to strengthen their position at the bargaining table. Rebels captured the city of Bor days ago; now the Sudan People\'s Liberation Army (SPLA) is trying to win it back. Bor is 125 slow, painful miles from the capital city of Juba—a trip made far quicker by helicopter. And so VICE flew to the front lines with the SPLA.

Huge March in Spain After Ban on Eta Prisoner Rally - January 12, 2014

At least 100,000 people have marched through the northern Spanish city of Bilbao after a rally in support of jailed Basque militants was banned.

Permission had been granted only for a silent march but some demonstrators shouted slogans in support of the Basque separatist group Eta.

Victims of Eta violence said the march made a mockery of their suffering.

Late last year, Spain\'s high court ordered the release from prison of several Eta members.

It was acting on a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights, which found Spain had acted illegally when it retroactively applied legislation that stopped them being eligible for early release.

Many of the prisoners had been convicted of murder.

Eta declared an end to its armed campaign in 2011 after being blamed for the deaths of more than 800 people over four decades.

However, successive governments in Madrid have refused to negotiate with the group.

\'A double sentence\'

Between 100,000 and 110,000 people joined Saturday\'s march, sources in the city told Spain\'s Efe news agency.

The people of Haiti have been remembering the victims of a devastating earthquake that struck the country four years ago, killing more than 250,000 people.

Across the country people have attended special religious ceremonies.

President Michel Martelly laid a wreath at a mass grave in Saint Christophe, where many victims were buried.

Some 150,000 people are still living in temporary accommodation.

The government issued a decree declaring 12 January a day of remembrance and reflection.

The shallow seven-magnitude earthquake struck on a Tuesday afternoon. The epicentre was just outside the capital, Port-au-Prince.

At least 1.5 million people were left homeless, in a country with a population of about 10 million.

Four years after the quake, signs of destruction are still everywhere.

Haiti, the poorest country in the Americas, has struggled to rebuild its infrastructure, despite millions of dollars in aid pouring into the country.

President Martelly said a year ago that only a third of the money pledged after the 2010 earthquake had actually been delivered.

Ahead of a possible assault on the city of Fallujah, Iraqi government forces battling an al-Qaeda offensive near the Syrian border have launched air strikes on suspected militant locations in Anbar Province. Government officials in western Anbar have also recently met with tribal leaders to urge them to help repel the militants, who have taken over parts of Ramadi and Fallujah, strategic cities on the Euphrates River. Al-Qaeda\'s Islamic State of Iraq and ISIL have been steadily tightening their grip in Anbar in recent months, in a bid to create a Sunni Muslim state. But last week\'s capture of positions in Ramadi and large parts of Fallujah was the first time in years Sunni insurgents have taken ground in the province\'s major cities, and actually held the positions for days. In Fallujah, ISIL\'s task has been made easier by disgruntled tribesmen who have joined its fight against the government. Thousands of people who live in Fallujah have fled the city. However, on Thursday morning, there were some reports claiming the situation has stabalised, accompanied by calls for residents to return home. Report by Mark Morris.

The site will be open to the general public but Sharon's grave will be accessible by family and friends. 200 police officers will be on duty during the funeral procession whilst military police will be deployed around settlements near the Gaza Strip. Sharon has been lying in state at the Israeli parliament where hundreds of mourners came to pay their final respects. Israel's 11th Prime Minister, Sharon passed away on Saturday at the age of 85 after being in a coma for 8 years. A charismatic and at times controversial figure, Sharon has been praised by current Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a "courageous fighter" whilst US President Obama described him as a leader who "dedicated his life to the State Israel." Sharon will be laid to rest next to his wife Lily.

Huge March in Spain After Ban on Eta Prisoner Rally - January 12, 2014 At least 100,000 people have marched through the northern Spanish city of Bilbao after a rally in support of jailed Basque militants was banned. Permission had been granted only for a silent march but some demonstrators shouted slogans in support of the Basque separatist group Eta. Victims of Eta violence said the march made a mockery of their suffering. Late last year, Spain's high court ordered the release from prison of several Eta members. 'A double sentence' Between 100,000 and 110,000 people joined Saturday's march, sources in the city told Spain's Efe news agency. Billed as a march for "human rights, understanding and peace", it was organised by Basque nationalist and separatist political parties after a judge banned a rally calling for Eta inmates to be moved closer to their families. A prisoner group had dropped its demand for a general amnesty last month in an apparent bid to engage the governments in Spain and France, which also has a significant Basque region. One marcher, 52-year-old Itziar Goienetxia, told AFP news agency she lived in the Basque country and had to travel 1,200km (746 miles) to visit her husband in jail in the southern city of Cadiz. "It's a double sentence," she said. The victims' association AVT had applied in vain to have the march banned, saying it gave "grave offence to each and every victim of terrorism". "The only aim of the initiative is to pay homage to prisoners of the terrorist group Eta," it argued. "Where has the money given to Haiti after the earthquake gone?" asked Mr Martelly. "Most of the aid was used by non-governmental agencies for emergency operations, not for the reconstruction of Haiti." Mr Martelly, who came to power after the quake, estimated the material cost of the disaster at £13bn (£8bn). But demonstrators have gone to the streets in recent months to demand the president's resignation, denouncing the high cost of living and accusing the government of corruption. Since the earthquake, the Caribbean nation has been affected by landslides and hurricanes, as well as an epidemic of cholera and rampant crime.

Subscribe to ITN News: http://goo.gl/zRYiYn Ahead of a possible assault on the city of Fallujah, Iraqi government forces battling an al-Qaeda offensive near the Syrian border have launched air strikes on suspected militant locations in Anbar Province. Government officials in western Anbar have also recently met with tribal leaders to urge them to help repel the militants, who have taken over parts of Ramadi and Fallujah, strategic cities on the Euphrates River. Al-Qaeda's Islamic State of Iraq and ISIL have been steadily tightening their grip in Anbar in recent months, in a bid to create a Sunni Muslim state. But last week's capture of positions in Ramadi and large parts of Fallujah was the first time in years Sunni insurgents have taken ground in the province's major cities, and actually held the positions for days. In Fallujah, ISIL's task has been made easier by disgruntled tribesmen who have joined its fight against the government. Thousands of people who live in Fallujah have fled the city. However, on Thursday morning, there were some reports claiming the situation has stabalised, accompanied by calls for residents to return home. Report by Mark Morris.
