Mare Island is a peninsula in the United States alongside the city of Vallejo, California, about 23 miles (37 km) northeast of San Francisco. The Napa River forms its eastern side as it enters the Carquinez Strait juncture with the east side of San Pablo Bay. Mare Island is considered a peninsula because no full body of water separates this or several other named "islands" from the mainland.[citation needed] Instead, a series of small sloughs cause seasonal water-flows among the so-called islands. Mare Island is the largest of these at about 3.5 miles (5.6 km) long and a mile wide.
The Napa River widens and forms a harbor between Mare Island and the mainland.
In 1775, Spanish explorer Perez Ayala was the first European to land on what would become Mare Island - he named it Isla de la Plana. This area was part of Rancho Suscol, deeded to General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo in 1844. It became a waypoint for early settlers. In 1835, whilst traversing the Carquinez Strait, a crude ferry transporting men and livestock capsized in a squall. Among the livestock feared lost in the wreckage was the prized white mare of General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, the Mexican Commandante for Northern California. Several days later, General Vallejo's mare was found on the island, having swum ashore. Grateful for the fortunate turn of events, he renamed the island to Isla de la Yegua, Spanish for Mare Island, in her honor.
A mare is an adult female horse or other equine.
In most cases, a mare is a female horse over the age of three, and a filly is a female horse age three and younger. However, in Thoroughbred horse racing, a mare is defined as a female horse more than four years old. The word can also be used for other female equine animals, particularly mules and zebras, though a female donkey is usually called a "jenny." A broodmare is a mare used for breeding. A horse's female parent is known as its dam.
An adult male horse is called a stallion, or, if castrated, a gelding. Occasionally the term "horse" is used in a restrictive sense to designate only a male horse.
Mares carry their young, called foals, for approximately 11 months from conception to birth. (Average range 320–370 days.) Usually just one young is born; twins are rare. When a domesticated mare foals, she nurses the foal for at least four to six months before it is weaned, though mares in the wild may allow a foal to nurse for up to a year.
The estrous cycle, also known as "season" or "heat" of a mare occurs roughly every 19–22 days and occurs from early spring into autumn. As the days shorten, most mares enter an anestrus period during the winter and thus do not cycle in this period. The reproductive cycle in a mare is controlled by the photoperiod (length of the day), the cycle first triggered when the days begin to lengthen. As the days shorten, the mare returns to the anestrus period when she is not sexually receptive. Anestrus prevents the mare from conceiving in the winter months, as that would result in her foaling during the harshest part of the year, a time when it would be most difficult for the foal to survive.
I've been thinking
I've been thinking I've been thinking too much.
I just want to live now for a little while.
And cast my dreams to the wind
Don't wanna wonder
don't wanna wonder what it's all about
I'm just working for a living singing with my friends
As I cast my dreams to the wind
Maryland I'm coming home
Never worry about what I did wrong.
And that I'll never be what my daddy wanted me to be
and I'llnever see what my mama's dreams were
But I will sing
La la la la la la la la...
I wanna fly
I wanna fly down the highway to my home away from home.
This funky funky club on Fairfax Avenue to see you.
I'll never give up
Because what is there to give up anyway?
I'm just working for a living working for my pay
In Maryland it's raining somewhere in some cafe.
Maryland I'm coming home
Never worry about what I did wrong.
And that I'll never be what my daddy wanted me to be
and I'llnever see what my mama's dreams were
But I will sing
just when i thought that our paths would be crossed
i was lost
i thought all that lay between you and me was the sea
i was wrong, that didn't take too long
T.V. scenes are just as they seem i've watched all my life and never got
under the skin
meet my own new friends
hello, how've you been?
i was lost
i was lost
i was lost
i was lost
in maryland there's nothing to do except sit here alone
and think of you
what would you do?
i was lost
i was lost
i was lost
i was lost
i was lost (maryland)
i was lost
i was lost (maryland)
i was lost
(maryland)
i was lost (maryland)
i was lost
i was lost (maryland)
i was lost
i was lost (maryland)
i was lost
i was lost (maryland)
Maria - Maria - Linda
du weißt
ich liebe dich sehr
Freiheit und Liebe gehören zusammen
uns beide trennt keiner mehr !
Maria - Maria - Linda
alles im Leben braucht Zeit -
Rose der sierra
ich liebe dich
für alle Ewigkeit !
Maria - Linda
sie wurde von Ringos Banditen
in Mexico's Berge gebracht.
In einer Höhle
versteckt unter Felsen
hielt er sie gefangen und strengstens bewacht !
Pancho beschaffte sich Leute und Waffen
und war bald berühmt weit und breit !
Ein jeder erhoffte
daß er alle Menschen
schon bald von dem grausamen Ringo befreit.
Maria - Maria - Linda
du weißt
ich liebe dich sehr
Freiheit und Liebe gehören zusammen
uns beide trennt keiner mehr !
Maria - Maria - Linda
alles im Leben braucht Zeit -
Rose der sierra
ich liebe dich
für alle Ewigkeit !
Und als es Nacht war
und alle schon schliefen
schlich Pancho den Felsen hinauf.
Denn Ringo Gonzales
Maria - Maria - Linda
du weißt
ich liebe dich sehr
Freiheit und Liebe gehören zusammen
uns beide trennt keiner mehr !
Maria - Maria - Linda
alles im Leben braucht Zeit -
Rose der sierra
ich liebe dich
I know a good place to have a drink
To light one up, 'n feel the beat
Yeah, feel the beat
A happy man is living there
He always welcomes all his friends
To Merry Land
We are living
We are living
For Merry Land
We are living
We are living
