Las referencias a esta "isla fantasma" se remontan a mapas del siglo XVIII dónde ya se puede apreciar cierta confusión en la ubicación de la misma apareciendo en ocasiones sobre la isla de Nueva Caledonia, en otras entre Australia y Nueva Caledonia (dónde la situaba google earth) e incluso de manera duplicada.
