The Trans-Am Series is an automobile racing series which was created in 1966 by Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) President John Bishop. Originally known as the Trans-American Sedan Championship it has evolved over time from its original format as a manufacturers championship for modified racing sedans to its current form as a drivers championship open to GT style cars.
The series was formed at the dawn of the pony car era and was derived from the SCCA's A & B Sedan amateur Club Racing classes, based upon commercially produced cars which had been modified for racing competition. Originally the series was open to FIA Group 2 Touring Cars and it featured two classes, Over 2.0 Liter and Under 2.0 Liter, with both classes running together. The series was best known for competition among American V8 sedans such as the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, Plymouth Barracuda, Mercury Cougar, AMC Javelin, Pontiac Firebird, and Dodge Challenger in the 1960s and early 1970s. Marques such as Porsche, Alfa Romeo, Datsun, Mini Cooper, Saab, and Volkswagen competed in the series Under 2.0 Liter category.
Scott Ferguson (born January 6, 1973) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Edmonton Oilers, Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and Minnesota Wild. He is currently an assistant coach, along with fellow ex-Oiler Geoff Smith, with the Kamloops Blazers.
A great performance for the Kamloops Blazers during the 1993/94 season earned Ferguson a second team all-star berth and a free agent contract from the Edmonton Oilers, which launched his professional career.
After spending most of seven seasons in the minor leagues (with the Cape Breton Oilers, Hamilton Bulldogs and Cincinnati Mighty Ducks), with only three NHL games (with Edmonton and the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim), Ferguson landed a regular job with the Oilers as a sixth/seventh defenceman, where he would play the following three seasons. Ferguson played in Sweden's HockeyAllsvenskan for Skovde IK during the NHL lockout.
Ferguson signed for the Minnesota Wild after the lockout ended. He played 15 games for the Wild and spent much of his tenure with their AHL affiliate the Houston Aeros. He then signed a one-year contract with the San Jose Sharks, but was assigned to the Worcester Sharks and never played a game for San Jose.
Joseph Thomas "Tom" West III (22 November 1939 – 19 May 2011) was the protagonist of the Pulitzer Prize winning non-fiction book The Soul of a New Machine. West worked for Data General Corporation as a hardware engineer and vice president, retiring as Chief Technologist in 1998. West died at the age of 71 in his Westport, Massachusetts home of an apparent heart attack. He is survived by two daughters, one of whom is Jessamyn West.
His nephew, Christopher Schwarz, is a former editor of Popular Woodworking magazine, author of The Anarchist Toolchest, and co-founder of Lost Art Press.
Trans Am
The wagons in the valley
had pulled up for the night
Seth said
"go get the plow out Merle,
this place looks just right"
By then they were surrounded,
by dawn they all were dead
I heard this from
the old Trans Am,
up the road ahead
That cowboy just kept talking,
I thought I heard him say
He used to ride the Santa Fe
before the tracks were laid
Trans Am
A nasty wind was blowing
through the gates of Eden Park
One was swinging
and one was hanging,
and the street lights all were dark
It crawled along the boulevard
with two wheels on the grass
That old Trans Am was dying hard,
but still had lots of gas
The golden gate was open wide,
the sun came shining through
Where once
the angels stood and cried
everything was new
Trans Am
Global manufacturing,
hands across the sea
The hotel filled with dealers,
everything was free
Before the competition,
ahead of all the rest
The product was presented,
it clearly was the best
The power link was ruptured,
the hotel shook and rolled
The old Trans Am
just bounced around
and took another road
Trans Am
An old friend showed up at the door
The mile posts flying by
He said come on, I said what for
He said I'll show you why
I got a call from north of here
They said some girl's broke down
There's good money in it
for you and me
If we can get her back to town
She's somewhere north of Barstow
Lost on 66
An old Trans Am
by the side of the road
That needs a headlight fixed
So you just graduated from high school,
And Daddy bought you a brand new Trans Am,
It's the really cool black one with the big bird painted on the hood,
And the fancy wheel with the tires with the letters on the,
And those things in the back, you don't even know what they're called.
Don't worry, no one'll notice, just buy a Playboy bunny air-freshener,
A few stuffed animals, fuzzy dice, a stick-on rainbow for the back window,
And everyone'll love your brand new car.
But why do you take up three parking spaces?
[2x] Driving the car don't make you cool,
Guy behind the wheel is still a fool
[2x] I hate Trans Ams they look like shit,
I hate T.A.'s the driver's a prick
It's your last summer in town until you go off to college,
Might as well have as much fun now as you can, bummer, man,
You had to buy your own personalized license plates,
But Mom is paying for your insurance, so you don't have a worry in the world,
Except maybe gas money, and I bet you can pick up lots of really sweet babes
In your brand new Trans Am, maybe even the entire cheerleading squad,
Here am I
Feel the sky
Never been so high
Here I am (please...deny...)
Here I am
So high
