Usonia /juːˈsoʊniə/ was a word used by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright to refer to his vision for the landscape of the United States, including the planning of cities and the architecture of buildings. Wright proposed the use of the adjective Usonian in place of American to describe the particular New World character of the American landscape as distinct and free of previous architectural conventions.
'Usonian' is a term usually referring to a group of approximately sixty middle-income family homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright beginning in 1936 with the Jacobs House. The "Usonian Homes" are typically small, single-story dwellings without a garage or much storage. They are often L-shaped to fit around a garden terrace on unusual and inexpensive sites. They are characterized by native materials; flat roofs and large cantilevered overhangs for passive solar heating and natural cooling; natural lighting with clerestory windows; and radiant-floor heating. A strong visual connection between the interior and exterior spaces is an important characteristic of all Usonian homes. The word carport was coined by Wright to describe an overhang for sheltering a parked vehicle.
Frank Lloyd Wright (born Frank Lincoln Wright, June 8, 1867 – April 9, 1959) was an American architect, interior designer, writer, and educator, who designed more than 1,000 structures, 532 of which were completed. Wright believed in designing structures that were in harmony with humanity and its environment, a philosophy he called organic architecture. This philosophy was best exemplified by Fallingwater (1935), which has been called "the best all-time work of American architecture". Wright was a leader of the Prairie School movement of architecture and developed the concept of the Usonian home, his unique vision for urban planning in the United States. Frank Lloyd Wright was an architect for about 70 years.
His work includes original and innovative examples of many building types, including offices, churches, schools, skyscrapers, hotels, and museums. Wright also designed many of the interior elements of his buildings, such as the furniture and stained glass. Wright wrote 20 books and many articles and was a popular lecturer in the United States and in Europe. His colorful personal life often made headlines, most notably for the 1914 fire and murders at his Taliesin studio. Already well known during his lifetime, Wright was recognized in 1991 by the American Institute of Architects as "the greatest American architect of all time".

The term Usonia was often invoked by Frank Lloyd Wright to describe his vision for the American Landscape. A 1958 drawing by Wright, entitled 'The Living City', gave the world an enticing glimpse of this vision. As an alternative to America's urban ills, Wright proposed a balanced synthesis of architecture and landscape that would reach from coast to coast. Now, almost 60 years after the death of Wright, you are invited to explore USONIA. This short computer animation was created in 1997 by Urs Britschgi, Mike Hsu, Ashley Shafer and Max Strang as a project for Columbia University's Digital Design Lab at the Graduate School of Architecture, Preservation and Planning under the direction of Eden Muir. This visionary landscape is presented in an engaging three-dimensional format. Trave...

Concept model for a one bedroom cottage by David Hollywood. The house features familiar elements of the modernist home - the flat roof, open plan with which we are familiar. This home refers to the Usonian homes of Frank Lloyd Wright, especially the first Jacob's House and the Case Study Houses in of the 1950s and early sixties. Recycled materials, polished concrete floor, underfloor heating, modest palette of materials, sliding walls to bring the outside in and vice versa, orientation to take full advantage of the sun.
Ooo yeah
Baby baby
I ease the pain
Could see us in our holy faith
But one day we changed I
Dreamed from big in a face
I'm already so tired to carry water open for the other side
Me I don't know but every time I look up I'm waiting for the sky to cry
Maybe be like water falling down from heaven's high
Until we start a wave ow now then make the oceans rise
Cause I don't wanna waste another moment swimming in the shadow wave
So now it's time for you and I to take another wave
Before we dive into the deep end deep end
Before we dive into the deep end deep end
Before we dive into the deep
I wanna learn to live and stop panicking
I don't want us sit like 2 mannequins
I'm already so tired to carry water open for the other side
Me I don't know but every time I look up I'm waiting for the sky to cry
Why can't we just
Maybe be like water falling down from heaven's high
Until we start a wave ow now then make the oceans rise
Cause I don't wanna I don't wanna
Cause I don't wanna spend another moment swimming in the shadow wave
So now it's time for you and I to take another wave
Before we dive into the deep end deep end
Before we dive into the deep end deep end
Before we dive into the deep
Breathing breathing
Breathing breathing
Breathing breathing
Before we dive into the deep end
Breathing breathing
Breathing breathing
Breathing breathing
Be like water falling down from heaven's high (heaven's high heaven's high)
Until we start a wave ow now then make the oceans rise
Cause I don't wanna I don't wanna
Cause I don't wanna spend another moment swimming in the shadow wave
So now it's time for you and I to take another wave
Before we dive into the deep end deep end
