Mayor Edwin M. Lee today announced his appointment of longtime District Three resident and business owner Julienne M. Christensen to the District Three Supervisor’s seat that was vacated on December 1, 2014 by then Board President David Chiu when he was sworn in as California Assemblymember for the 17th District. Supervisorial District Three comprises many diverse and vibrant neighborhoods, including North Beach, Chinatown, Telegraph Hill, Russian Hill, Polk Street, Nob Hill, Union Square, Financial District, Barbary Coast and Fisherman’s Wharf. Julie has worked closely with neighbors and organizations from across District Three, including the Chinatown Community Development Center, Russian Hill Neighbors, Middle Polk Neighborhood Association, Fisherman’s Wharf Community Benefit District, Telegraph Hill Dwellers, Tel-Hi Neighborhood Center, SoTel (Southern Telegraph Hill) Neighbors and the Broadway Community Benefit District. Her neighborhood advocacy work includes major pedestrian safety projects in Chinatown, North Beach and throughout the District, the extension of the Central Subway, the new North Bach Library, Coit Tower and Pioneer Park improvements, the redesign of Helen Wills Park in Russian Hill, restoration and expansion of the North Beach Pool and Clubhouse, the redesign of Joe DiMaggio Playground, and numerous streetscape projects including Columbus Avenue and Kearny and Lombard Streets. Julie is a 35-year resident of San Francisco with 21 years as a resident of North Beach. She is a nationally recognized expert on product development and design strategy for companies such as Corningware, Gillette, KitchenAid, Maytag, Proctor & Gamble, Pyrex, Samsung, Whirlpool and XBOX. Her business focuses on the development, finishing and promotion of textiles, lighting, furniture and other architecture and design-related products. She has worked with many of the world’s premier design consultancies and manufacturers and has contributed to the development of numerous award-winning products. She is a member of San Francisco Planning and Urban Research (SPUR)’s Advisory Board, a founder of SFNexTstop, an advocacy group of diverse stakeholders who support an extension of the Central Subway (T line) to North Beach and Fisherman’s Wharf, and a member of Friends of Joe DiMaggio Playground and Friends of Helen Wills Playground. She is also a past member of the Telegraph Hill Dwellers.
