Well, here we are, the goal I talked about for quite a while.
Collecting and Mining 10,000 Coal ore blocks.
We finally did it.
And now here is the video of it.
It took us 40 minutes to place down all 10,000 Coal blocks, and it took myself 2 hours and 50 to mine all of the blocks as well as taking the time to enchant the pickaxes.
So it was a total of 3 hours and 30 minutes of recording!!!
So torturous! but a promise is a promise.
So what I did was sped up the video 4000% which turned the 3 and 1/2 hour recording into a 9 and 1/2 minute video. Amazing.
It didn't look like it was going well in post-production but the final produced video looks fantastic. I love this software.
So that is it, 10,000 Coal blocks mined so now onto a new goal, 1,000 Butter/Gold and 1,000 Lapis Lazuli if that is even possible.

Collecting and Mining 10,000 Coal ore blocks. We finally did it. And now here is the video of it. It took us 40 minutes to place down all 10,000 Coal blocks, and it took myself 2 hours and 50 to mine all of the blocks as well as taking the time to enchant the pickaxes. So it was a total of 3 hours and 30 minutes of recording!!! So torturous! but a promise is a promise. So what I did was sped up the video 4000% which turned the 3 and 1/2 hour recording into a 9 and 1/2 minute video. Amazing. It didn't look like it was going well in post-production but the final produced video looks fantastic. I love this software. So that is it, 10,000 Coal blocks mined so now onto a new goal, 1,000 Butter/Gold and 1,000 Lapis Lazuli if that is even possible. Estimated 2 hours and 30 minutes to mine 10,000 blocks with only 1 person. 22,074 Coal gathered in total, converted to torches if needed; 88,296 torches would be made. 370 levels achieved with 12 pickaxes enchanted. The aim of coal mining is to get coal and in some cases various other resources from the ground. In the United States, United Kingdom, and South Africa, a coal mine and its structures are a colliery.
Coal mining has actually had several advancements over the current years, from the very early days of guys tunneling, excavating and by hand removing the coal on carts to big open cut and lengthy wall mines. Mining at this scale needs the use of draglines, vehicles, shearers, conveyors and jacks.
Little scale mining of area deposits goes back hundreds of years. For instance, in Roman Britain, the Romans were exploiting all major coalfields (save those of North and South Staffordshire) by the late 2nd century ADVERTISEMENT. Well, here we are, the goal I talked about for quite a while.
Collecting and Mining 10,000 Coal ore blocks.
We finally did it.
And now here is the video of it.
It took us 40 minutes to place down all 10,000 Coal blocks, and it took myself 2 hours and 50 to mine all of the blocks as well as taking the time to enchant the pickaxes.
So it was a total of 3 hours and 30 minutes of recording!!!
So torturous! but a promise is a promise.
So what I did was sped up the video 4000% which turned the 3 and 1/2 hour recording into a 9 and 1/2 minute video. Amazing.
It didn't look like it was going well in post-production but the final produced video looks fantastic. I love this software.
So that is it, 10,000 Coal blocks mined so now onto a new goal, 1,000 Butter/Gold and 1,000 Lapis Lazuli if that is even possible.

When asked if mining or agriculture is more dangerous, ex-coal miner and now cattle producer Matt Bennetto’s answer is ‘agriculture’.
He says agriculture could learn some valuable lessons about Work Health and Safety (WHS) from the resources sector, having experienced first-hand the mining sector’s strict safety regulations in action.
Matt spent seven years working underground in coal mining and hard rock mining in tunnel construction, before returning full-time to his family’s Charters Towers cattle property, Virginia Park, two years ago.
During his time working underground, Matt was a health and safety representative and an underground operations trainer for a number of years.
Comparing the approach to risk management in mining with agriculture, he believes the agriculture sector is still playing catch up when it comes to workplace health and safety.
“When I went underground coal mining after working in underground hard rock mining, I thought that coal mining would be the most dangerous industry to work in,” Matt said.
“And yet, because the industry mitigates most of the dangers I actually think coal mining ends up a safer environment than the everyday operations on a cattle station.
“Some of the on-farm dangers are short-term, immediate ones like falling off a horse or cutting yourself on barbed wire, while others are long-term risks like the impacts of sun exposure.”
Matt believes if agriculture could draw from the mining industry’s approach to greater task awareness, it could save lives and prevent injuries.
New research exploring what’s stopping primary producers from improving their safety practices has found almost half of all deaths on farms could be prevented, simply by implementing solutions we already know about.
Funded by the Primary Industries Health and Safety Partnership and led by Richard Franklin of James Cook University, the study found the major barriers to implementing improved safety practices included perceived cost, time and inconvenience to implement changes.
The Primary Industries Health and Safety Partnership (PIHSP), funded by the Cotton, Grains and Rural Industries Research and Development Corporations, as well as the Australian Meat Processor Corporation and Meat & Livestock Australia, aims to promote best practise WHS practices and improve the health and safety of workers and their families in farming and fishing industries across Australia.
When it comes to engaging producers in farm safety, Matt believes taking an educational and training approach was more appealing to producers than a bureaucratic approach.
“The mining industry has created all sorts of actions and documentation to create task awareness,” Matt said.
“I think lack of task awareness on-farm happens for a variety of reasons, but primarily two reasons. One is lack of experience in the job or task that people are doing, so they’re not aware of the hazards, and secondly, people become so familiar with a task that they become complacent and stop looking out for hazards.”
Besides running their cattle operation, Matt and his wife Sonia, along with his parents, Rob and Sue, also host agricultural traineeship programs run by Northern Skills Alliance (NSA) on Virginia Park, as well as school groups.
The training blocks cover all facets of agriculture including cattle work, horse riding, motorbike skills, mechanical servicing and welding.
Matt believes there are many small steps producers can take that would ultimately make a big difference to risk management.

The Coal Mining History - Documentary Films. When coal seams are near the surface, it may be economical to extract the coal using open cut (also referred to as open cast, open pit, or strip) mining methods. Open cast coal mining recovers a greater proportion of the coal deposit than underground methods, as more of the coal seams in the strata may be exploited. Large open cast mines can cover an area of many square kilometers and use very large pieces of equipment. Their families waited outside living through one of the most difficult times of their lives, praying to see their loved ones once again.
As time wore on, we would learn the ultimate fate of those men, those husbands, those fathers, those grandfathers, brothers, uncles, nephews. One was alive, barely holding on…the others had perished in the thick poisoned air of the mine.
The miners of Sago were like so many of us. They took one of the few jobs available to them, jobs that would allow them to live in the places they had long called home, jobs that would pay enough to support their families.
If only the company had given them more than one SCSR—if only there had been a law—but we know how much power money holds over the hearts of men.
It would be the suffering and tragic loss of life of those 12 brave souls—the pain of constant loss felt by their families—that would finally see to it that every coal miner in the United States would never face the same crisis. Millions of Americans became outraged at the events that played out on their televisions, and the ensuing public outcry would accomplish a feat that has seldom been accomplished in the history of US coal mining—the power of coal industry lobbyists was outweighed by the voice of the public in the halls of government. Laws were passed and now additional SCSRs must be purchased by coal companies, underground safe havens must be built and supply miners with three day of oxygen, food, and water.
Each time my crew passed a safe haven and SCSR stash on our way to the section, I would think of those men, I would think of their final hours. I would pay my respects to them in my own way and wish that the corruption of the coalfields had not taken their lives. I hope that other miners do the same and remember the day the miners of Sago perished and the hearts of their families were forever broken.
