Modern slaughterhouses have been designed to take the highest number of animal lives, as fast as possible. Industrialised animal slaughter is a huge business, and some of these factories —which are becoming increasingly technological and are using equipment’s ever more modern and specialised—, take thousands of animals to their deaths every day. The slaughterhouse owned by Grupo Jorge, Le Porc Gourmet, kills 13,000 pigs a day; Veravic, owned by the society Ibergallus, 80,000 chickens; Faccsa has recently initiated formalities to build a slaughterhouse in Andalusia with the capacity to kill up to 40,000 pigs. These are some of the highest production rate slaughterhouses within the Spanish State, and they help us get an approximate idea of the industry’s exploitation and extermination pace.
Between November 2016 and October 2018, I gained access into 16 slaughterhouses in the Spanish State. Inside them, I was able to document the slaughter of cows, pigs, lambs, chickens, and rabbits.
The material I’m including in my investigation is aimed to show —as opposed to the meat industry’s obscurantism and propaganda— the institutional and systematic violence suffered by animals in slaughterhouses. It provides relevant information for the debate that, promoted by the anti-speciesist movement, questions the legitimacy of animal exploitation and advocates for its abolition.

With images obtained during an investigation carried out in fifty eight slaughterhouses in Mexico between 2015 and 2017, «Slaughterhouse» is a documentary that takes us into the hermetic world of the meat industry.
The footage shows the systematic exploitation and violence suffered by animals in slaughterhouses and that is deliberately kept hidden by the meat industry.
In order to carry out this documentary, the director, who for years has been carrying out a project against animal exploitation named as «Tras los Muros», has had to use false identities that have allowed him to access all these places.

Halal.... Specifically, the slaughter must be performed by a Muslim, who must precede the slaughter by invoking the name of Allah, most commonly by saying "Bismillah" ("In the name of God") and then three times "Allahu akbar" (God is the greatest). Then, the animal must be slaughtered with a sharp knife by cutting the throat, windpipe and the blood vessels in the neck, causing the animal's death without cutting the spinal cord. Lastly, the blood from the veins must be drained.
Ban this atrocious, barbaric, disgusting practise.
There is a reason we stun animals before slaughter, especially cows. In an abattoir, the animal is stunned to incapacitate or destroy the brain so it can't feel pain while it dies by exsanguination (they cut the jugular veins and carotid arteries, death occurs when blood can no longer reach the brain and the nervous tissue dies.
There are 2 stunning methods:
a) Mechanical - A captive bolt pistol is used to hit the skull very hard. The shock waves from this cause sheer forces that destroy the brain. In 99% of cases it kills the animal outright, but 99% isn't good enough, so it's classed as a stunning method.
b) Electrical - An electric current is applied across the brain inducing epilepsy. The brain can recover from this (minimum time 30 seconds), so animals must be killed quickly after the epilepsy is induced (known as the "Stun-to-stick" time, should be no longer than 15 seconds). The animal feels no pain, since the epilepsy is induced quicker than the brain can perceive pain.
There are also 2 methods of sticking an animal: a) Jugular stick - "slitting its throat" b) Thoracic stick - making a cut close to the base of the heart and severing the arteries there.
Why are halal and kosher inhumane? Because of the anatomy of the arteries supplying the brain with blood. Most animals receive the bulk of circulation to the brain via the internal and external carotid arteries. This is what you cut if you slit an animal's throat properly. Cattle have an additional artery supplying the brain called the vertebral artery (it's also present in sheep and goats, but doesn't directly supply the brain). As the name suggests, this travels in a small hole in the wings of the cervical vertebrae. It's protected by bone.. it's impossible to cut with a slaughterman's knife. There arteries continue to supply blood to the brain after the animal's throat is cut.
What does this mean in practice? A sheep will become insensible 2 to 14 seconds after the carotid arteries are cut. Even without stunning that's 2 to 14 seconds of quite considerable suffering and fear. Consider the humble cow with her vertebral arteries. With a good cutting technique, a cow will become insensible after 17 to 85 seconds.. some remain sensible for 385 seconds Source. Now sit there and count out 17 seconds... what about 85 seconds... now try 385 seconds.
We didn't just make this shit up to insult religious sensibilities. This is tested, tried, corroborated, scientific evidence which has been available for decades yet no legislation has been brought in to protect animal welfare at perhaps the most horrific time of the meat production process.
TL;DR: Any slaughter method which doesn't use stunning causes immeasurable suffering to the animal, especially cattle because of the different arrangement of arteries supplying blood to the brain.

PETA animal rights activists marked World Vegan day in London on Tuesday by staging a mock slaughter of two of their members.
First the activists were suspended by their ankles and afterwards two other members pretended to kill them with knives.
The protesters are hoping to raise awareness of animal slaughter and want to encourage people to go vegan.
"We really do feel if the general public knew what happened to billions of animals, if they realized that that steak they’re buying on a supermarket shelf was a cow, who had his throat slit while fully conscious, whose life was just ripped away from him, they wouldn’t want to eat that - there are so many better alternatives."
"It is such needless violence, it’s been proven time and time again how much better a vegan diet is for both, your health and the environment, so on World Vegan Day we really should be looking inside ourselves and thinking what can I do to end this violence."

Slaughter House Gang
The Slaughter House Gang, known as the Slaughter Housers, were a prominent street gang in New York's Fourth Ward during the late 1840s to the mid-1860s.
The Slaughter Housers, known for their violent muggings and murder, were infamous for luring an unsuspecting victim into a local dive bar where he would be robbed and sometimes murdered. However, if the victim refused to enter, the gang would follow the victim until passing a window where a woman would dump a bucket of ash, blinding the victim, and he would be attacked and pushed into a cellar door. The victim would then be robbed of everything of value, including his clothes, and thrown onto the street. The leading member of the gang was George Leese, a known river pirate and mugger involved in staging Fourth Ward illegal bare-knuckle prize fights. The Slaughter Housers remained the dominant gang in the Fourth Ward until after the American Civil War when police finally managed to drive the gang from the neighborhood.

A slaughterhouse, abattoir 
i/ˈæbətwɑːr/ or meatworks is a facility where animals are killed for consumption as food. Slaughterhouses that process meat not intended for human consumption are sometimes referred to as knacker's yards or knackeries, used for animals that are not fit for consumption or can no longer work on a farm such as horses that can no longer work.
Slaughtering animals on a large scale poses significant logistical problems, and public health requirements and public aversion in many cultures influences the location of slaughterhouses.
Animal welfare and animal rights groups frequently raise concerns about the methods of transport, preparation, herding, and killing within some slaughterhouses under the example of animal rights activists such as Howard Lyman and Ric O’Barry.
Productivity
Typically 45–50% of the animal can be turned into edible products (meat). About 5-15% is waste, and the remaining 40–45% of the animal is turned into byproducts such as leather, soaps, candles (tallow), and animal glue.

House Gang is an Australian television comedy that screened on the Special Broadcasting Service. The first series of six episodes screened in 1996 and the second series of six episodes screened in 1998.
Synopsis
The series features the formerly wealthy, habitually dysfunctional family of Mike Wilson and his contentious 15-year-old daughter Chloe. Mike is a builder who has gone bankrupt and his daughter Chloe decide to move in with their tenants, a trio of handicapped young adults named Belinda (Ruth Cromer), Trevor (Saxon Graham), and Robert (Chris Greenwood), and their special-ed teacher Jack (Jeanette Cronin). Why we need Mandatory CCTV in UK Slaughterhouses
Scotland for Animals are conducting a campaign to get CCTV into all abattoirs in Scotland by law -- and we need your help. This video highlights just some of the deliberate cruelty that goes on in our slaughterhouses. We really can't stress how urgently we need to act. Undercover investigations repeatedly produce footage of animals being beaten, stabbed, burned, electrocuted and enduring terror during the killing process. The slaughterhouse owned by Grupo Jorge, Le Porc Gourmet, kills 13,000 pigs a day; Veravic, owned by the society Ibergallus, 80,000 chickens; Faccsa has recently initiated formalities to build a slaughterhouse in Andalusia with the capacity to kill up to 40,000 pigs. These are some of the highest production rate slaughterhouses within the Spanish State, and they help us get an approximate idea of the industry’s exploitation and extermination pace.
Between November 2016 and October 2018, I gained access into 16 slaughterhouses in the Spanish State. Inside them, I was able to document the slaughter of cows, pigs, lambs, chickens, and rabbits.
The material I’m including in my investigation is aimed to show —as opposed to the meat industry’s obscurantism and propaganda— the institutional and systematic violence suffered by animals in slaughterhouses. It provides relevant information for the debate that, promoted by the anti-speciesist movement, questions the legitimacy of animal exploitation and advocates for its abolition.

Modern slaughterhouses have been designed to take the highest number of animal lives, as fast as possible. Industrialised animal slaughter is a huge business, and some of these factories —which are becoming increasingly technological and are using equipment’s ever more modern and specialised—, take thousands of animals to their deaths every day. The slaughterhouse owned by Grupo Jorge, Le Porc Gourmet, kills 13,000 pigs a day; Veravic, owned by the society Ibergallus, 80,000 chickens; Faccsa has recently initiated formalities to build a slaughterhouse in Andalusia with the capacity to kill up to 40,000 pigs. Halal.... Specifically, the slaughter must be performed by a Muslim, who must precede the slaughter by invoking the name of Allah, most commonly by saying "Bismillah" ("In the name of God") and then three times "Allahu akbar" (God is the greatest). Then, the animal must be slaughtered with a sharp knife by cutting the throat, windpipe and the blood vessels in the neck, causing the animal's death without cutting the spinal cord. Lastly, the blood from the veins must be drained.
Ban this atrocious, barbaric, disgusting practise.
There is a reason we stun animals before slaughter, especially cows. In an abattoir, the animal is stunned to incapacitate or destroy the brain so it can't feel pain while it dies by exsanguination (they cut the jugular veins and carotid arteries, death occurs when blood can no longer reach the brain and the nervous tissue dies.
There are 2 stunning methods:
a) Mechanical - A captive bolt pistol is used to hit the skull very hard. The shock waves from this cause sheer forces that destroy the brain. In 99% of cases it kills the animal outright, but 99% isn't good enough, so it's classed as a stunning method.
b) Electrical - An electric current is applied across the brain inducing epilepsy. The brain can recover from this (minimum time 30 seconds), so animals must be killed quickly after the epilepsy is induced (known as the "Stun-to-stick" time, should be no longer than 15 seconds). The animal feels no pain, since the epilepsy is induced quicker than the brain can perceive pain.
There are also 2 methods of sticking an animal: a) Jugular stick - "slitting its throat" b) Thoracic stick - making a cut close to the base of the heart and severing the arteries there.
Why are halal and kosher inhumane? Because of the anatomy of the arteries supplying the brain with blood. Most animals receive the bulk of circulation to the brain via the internal and external carotid arteries. This is what you cut if you slit an animal's throat properly. Cattle have an additional artery supplying the brain called the vertebral artery (it's also present in sheep and goats, but doesn't directly supply the brain). As the name suggests, this travels in a small hole in the wings of the cervical vertebrae. It's protected by bone.. it's impossible to cut with a slaughterman's knife. There arteries continue to supply blood to the brain after the animal's throat is cut.
What does this mean in practice? A sheep will become insensible 2 to 14 seconds after the carotid arteries are cut. Even without stunning that's 2 to 14 seconds of quite considerable suffering and fear. Consider the humble cow with her vertebral arteries. With a good cutting technique, a cow will become insensible after 17 to 85 seconds.. some remain sensible for 385 seconds Source. Now sit there and count out 17 seconds... what about 85 seconds... now try 385 seconds.
We didn't just make this shit up to insult religious sensibilities. This is tested, tried, corroborated, scientific evidence which has been available for decades yet no legislation has been brought in to protect animal welfare at perhaps the most horrific time of the meat production process.
TL;DR: Any slaughter method which doesn't use stunning causes immeasurable suffering to the animal, especially cattle because of the different arrangement of arteries supplying blood to the brain.

The protesters are hoping to raise awareness of animal slaughter and want to encourage people to go vegan.
"We really do feel if the general public knew what happened to billions of animals, if they realized that that steak they’re buying on a supermarket shelf was a cow, who had his throat slit while fully conscious, whose life was just ripped away from him, they wouldn’t want to eat that - there are so many better alternatives."

PETA animal rights activists marked World Vegan day in London on Tuesday by staging a mock slaughter of two of their members.
First the activists were suspended by their ankles and afterwards two other members pretended to kill them with knives.
The protesters are hoping to raise awareness of animal slaughter and want to encourage people to go vegan.
"We really do feel if the general public knew what happened to billions of animals, if they realized that that steak they’re buying on a supermarket shelf was a cow, who had his throat slit while fully conscious, whose life was just ripped away from him, they wouldn’t want to eat that - there are so many better alternatives."
"It is such needless violence, it’s been proven time and time again how much better a vegan diet is for both, your health and the environment, so on World Vegan Day we really should be looking inside ourselves and thinking what can I do to end this violence."

This video highlights just some of the deliberate cruelty that goes on in our slaughterhouses. We really can't stress how urgently we need to act. Undercover investigations repeatedly produce footage of animals being beaten, stabbed, burned, electrocuted and enduring terror during the killing process. Earlier this year 9 abattoirs were chosen at random and monitored by our colleagues at Animal Aid -- serious and repeated breaches of welfare laws were recorded on film in 8 of them.

Write to your MSPs asking for them to support a legal amendment in order to make CCTV mandatory in all of Scotland's slaughter areas
Order our free CCTV campaign materials for your workplace, school, library etc.

Modern slaughterhouses have been designed to take the highest number of animal lives, as fast as possible. Industrialised animal slaughter is a huge business, and some of these factories —which are becoming increasingly technological and are using equipment’s ever more modern and specialised—, take thousands of animals to their deaths every day. The slaughterhouse owned by Grupo Jorge, Le Porc Gourmet, kills 13,000 pigs a day; Veravic, owned by the society Ibergallus, 80,000 chickens; Faccsa has recently initiated formalities to build a slaughterhouse in Andalusia with the capacity to kill up to 40,000 pigs. These are some of the highest production rate slaughterhouses within the Spanish State, and they help us get an approximate idea of the industry’s exploitation and extermination pace.
Between November 2016 and October 2018, I gained access into 16 slaughterhouses in the Spanish State. Inside them, I was able to document the slaughter of cows, pigs, lambs, chickens, and rabbits.
The material I’m including in my investigation is aimed to show —as opposed to the meat industry’s obscurantism and propaganda— the institutional and systematic violence suffered by animals in slaughterhouses. It provides relevant information for the debate that, promoted by the anti-speciesist movement, questions the legitimacy of animal exploitation and advocates for its abolition.

With images obtained during an investigation carried out in fifty eight slaughterhouses in Mexico between 2015 and 2017, «Slaughterhouse» is a documentary that takes us into the hermetic world of the meat industry.
The footage shows the systematic exploitation and violence suffered by animals in slaughterhouses and that is deliberately kept hidden by the meat industry.
In order to carry out this documentary, the director, who for years has been carrying out a project against animal exploitation named as «Tras los Muros», has had to use false identities that have allowed him to access all these places.

Halal.... Specifically, the slaughter must be performed by a Muslim, who must precede the slaughter by invoking the name of Allah, most commonly by saying "Bismillah" ("In the name of God") and then three times "Allahu akbar" (God is the greatest). Then, the animal must be slaughtered with a sharp knife by cutting the throat, windpipe and the blood vessels in the neck, causing the animal's death without cutting the spinal cord. Lastly, the blood from the veins must be drained.
Ban this atrocious, barbaric, disgusting practise.
There is a reason we stun animals before slaughter, especially cows. In an abattoir, the animal is stunned to incapacitate or destroy the brain so it can't feel pain while it dies by exsanguination (they cut the jugular veins and carotid arteries, death occurs when blood can no longer reach the brain and the nervous tissue dies.
There are 2 stunning methods:
a) Mechanical - A captive bolt pistol is used to hit the skull very hard. The shock waves from this cause sheer forces that destroy the brain. In 99% of cases it kills the animal outright, but 99% isn't good enough, so it's classed as a stunning method.
b) Electrical - An electric current is applied across the brain inducing epilepsy. The brain can recover from this (minimum time 30 seconds), so animals must be killed quickly after the epilepsy is induced (known as the "Stun-to-stick" time, should be no longer than 15 seconds). The animal feels no pain, since the epilepsy is induced quicker than the brain can perceive pain.
There are also 2 methods of sticking an animal: a) Jugular stick - "slitting its throat" b) Thoracic stick - making a cut close to the base of the heart and severing the arteries there.
Why are halal and kosher inhumane? Because of the anatomy of the arteries supplying the brain with blood. Most animals receive the bulk of circulation to the brain via the internal and external carotid arteries. This is what you cut if you slit an animal's throat properly. Cattle have an additional artery supplying the brain called the vertebral artery (it's also present in sheep and goats, but doesn't directly supply the brain). As the name suggests, this travels in a small hole in the wings of the cervical vertebrae. It's protected by bone.. it's impossible to cut with a slaughterman's knife. There arteries continue to supply blood to the brain after the animal's throat is cut.
What does this mean in practice? A sheep will become insensible 2 to 14 seconds after the carotid arteries are cut. Even without stunning that's 2 to 14 seconds of quite considerable suffering and fear. Consider the humble cow with her vertebral arteries. With a good cutting technique, a cow will become insensible after 17 to 85 seconds.. some remain sensible for 385 seconds Source. Now sit there and count out 17 seconds... what about 85 seconds... now try 385 seconds.
We didn't just make this shit up to insult religious sensibilities. This is tested, tried, corroborated, scientific evidence which has been available for decades yet no legislation has been brought in to protect animal welfare at perhaps the most horrific time of the meat production process.
TL;DR: Any slaughter method which doesn't use stunning causes immeasurable suffering to the animal, especially cattle because of the different arrangement of arteries supplying blood to the brain.

Slaughter House Gang
The Slaughter House Gang, known as the Slaughter Housers, were a prominent street gang in New York's Fourth Ward during the late 1840s to the mid-1860s.
The Slaughter Housers, known for their violent muggings and murder, were infamous for luring an unsuspecting victim into a local dive bar where he would be robbed and sometimes murdered. However, if the victim refused to enter, the gang would follow the victim until passing a window where a woman would dump a bucket of ash, blinding the victim, and he would be attacked and pushed into a cellar door. The victim would then be robbed of everything of value, including his clothes, and thrown onto the street. The leading member of the gang was George Leese, a known river pirate and mugger involved in staging Fourth Ward illegal bare-knuckle prize fights. The Slaughter Housers remained the dominant gang in the Fourth Ward until after the American Civil War when police finally managed to drive the gang from the neighborhood.
