Deep South
The Deep South is a descriptive category of the cultural and geographic subregions in the Southern United States. Historically, it is differentiated from the "Upper South" as being the states most dependent on plantation-type agriculture and slavery during the pre–Civil War period. The Deep South was also commonly referred to as the Lower South or the Cotton States. Before the out-migrations at the first half of the 20th century, African-descended peoples comprised the majority of the population in numerous areas and some states. Today, the Deep South is usually delineated as being those states and areas where cultural elements most often thought of as "Southern" exist in their most concentrated form.

The Deep South (Futurama)
"The Deep South" is episode 12 in season 2 of Futurama. It originally aired in North America on April 16, 2000.
Plot
A bureaucratic mix-up results in Hermes receiving a "mandatory fishing license" instead of a pet license for Nibbler. The crew takes the Planet Express Ship to the center of the Atlantic Ocean, and starts fishing. After failing to catch anything, a bored Bender fashions a large fish hook and attaches it to the ship's unbreakable diamond filament tether. Sunset comes, and the crew is ready to head back to New New York. Bender begins to haul in his line, but he has caught a colossal-mouth bass. The bass dives, dragging the ship to the bottom of the ocean before the hook slips loose. The Planet Express Ship survives its trek to the bottom, but its engines will not work underwater.
Professor Farnsworth conveniently has an anti-pressure suppository which Fry uses to go help forage for food with Bender and Dr. Zoidberg. Separated from them, Fry sees a mermaid; but when he returns to the ship, no one believes him. That night, the mermaid, Umbriel, lures Fry out of the ship, and they leave to explore the wonders of the ocean bottom.

The Deep (TV serial)
The Deep is a British television serial drama produced by Tiger Aspect Productions for BBC Wales. Written by Simon Donald, The Deep stars Minnie Driver, James Nesbitt, and Goran Visnjic as the crew of a research submarine, who encounter disaster thousands of feet underwater in the Arctic Circle.
The drama was filmed over 12 weeks in and around Dumbarton, and was broadcast during BBC One's Summer 2010 season.
Synopsis
A group of oceanographers seek a new source of bio-fuel in the Lomonosov Ridge. A disaster strikes their submarine, stranding them thousands of feet underwater. The group must now deal with clashing personalities and finding a way to the surface.
Production
Commissioning of The Deep was announced by the BBC in July 2009. The BBC announced the involvement of stars Minnie Driver, James Nesbitt and Goran Visnjic, and the start of production at the BBC's Dumbarton studios, in December 2009. The shoot ran for 12 weeks, concluding in March 2010. Submarine sets both physical and computer generated were designed by Production Designer Simon Bowles. Location filming also occurred in Ardrossan and the harbour at Irvine. Prosthetic make-up artist Linda A. Morton researched the sorts of injuries sustained by the characters by visiting a hospital burns unit, and referring to photographs of radiation burns.

The Deep is a children's novel by English writer Helen Dunmore, published in 2007 and the third of the Ingo tetralogy (following Ingo and The Tide Knot and to be followed by The Crossing of Ingo).
Plot summary
A devastating flood has torn through the worlds of Air and Ingo, and now, deep in the ocean, a monster is stirring. Mer legend says that only those with dual blood—half Mer, half human—can overcome the Kraken that stirs in The Deep.
Sapphire must return to the Deep, with the help of her friend the whale, and face this terrifying creature - and her brother Conor and Mer friend Faro will not let her go without them. Those with pure Mer blood cannot go to the Deep.

Bill Leverty
William G. Leverty II (born January 30, 1967) is an American guitarist, who is a founding and current member of the American rock band FireHouse. Leverty was responsible for writing many of the band's hit songs. In the 2000s, Leverty has also pursued a solo career, releasing four albums; Wanderlust, Southern Exposure, Deep South and Drive.
Biography
Leverty was born in Richmond, Virginia. His parents gave him a guitar when he was 4 years old, but he didn't take it up seriously until he was 15 years old, and studied music theory in high school.
In 1984, his band White Heat auditioned for a drummer, where he met Michael Foster and was impressed with him. Some time later, they hooked up with C.J. Snare and Perry Richardson, and formed FireHouse. Leverty got an endorsement deal with Yamaha Guitar Development and played them for 16 years.
Leverty married his wife Kris in 1996; together they have a child named Dabney.
In 2004, after almost 10 years with FireHouse, Leverty released his first solo album called Wanderlust.

Welcome to episode 22 of our second series on the Surnames of Appalachia and the American South. Before we get going today, I want to answer a question posed by a viewer. “Angry Kitty� wants to know why Northern Appalachia is never mentioned. That’s a good question, so here’s why: Appalachia can be seen as three types of regions: one encompasses land features like mountains, ridges, hills, hollers, valleys, and plateaus; a second is a formal region with hard and fast boundaries like that which is defined by the Appalachian Regional Commission, and the third is a cultural or vernacular region. My interest is in the cultural region of Appalachia where we find well-formed traditions centered around storytelling, vocabulary and expressions, music, food items like gravy and biscuits, and building styles. This is a portion of the mountains where your grandparents wouldn’t have been ashamed to be called Hillbilly, Scotch-Irish, or part Cherokee. This culture can be traced across the upper South into the Ozarks and the Hill Country of Texas. That doesn’t include places further north than southern Pennsylvania or southeastern Ohio. There’s nothing wrong with Northern Appalachia; it’s just a different culture area that shares little in common with the upper or Deep South. Welcome to episode 22 of our second series on the Surnames of Appalachia and the American South. Before we get going today, I want to answer a question posed by a viewer. “Angry Kitty� wants to know why Northern Appalachia is never mentioned. That’s a good question, so here’s why: Appalachia can be seen as three types of regions: one encompasses land features like mountains, ridges, hills, hollers, valleys, and plateaus; a second is a formal region with hard and fast boundaries like that which is defined by the Appalachian Regional Commission, and the third is a cultural or vernacular region. My interest is in the cultural region of Appalachia where we find well-formed traditions centered around storytelling, vocabulary and expressions, music, food items like gravy and biscuits, and building styles. This is a portion of the mountains where your grandparents wouldn’t have been ashamed to be called Hillbilly, Scotch-Irish, or part Cherokee. This culture can be traced across the upper South into the Ozarks and the Hill Country of Texas. That doesn’t include places further north than southern Pennsylvania or southeastern Ohio. There’s nothing wrong with Northern Appalachia; it’s just a different culture area that shares little in common with the upper or Deep South. With that out of the way, let’s dig into some family history, southern style. I hope you’ll join me.
