The culture of Hawaii has its origins in the traditional culture of the Native Hawaiians. As Hawaii has become home to many different ethnic groups during the past 200 years, each ethnic group has added elements of its own culture. Today, contemporary culture in Hawaii is a mix of these different cultures and ethnic groups.
Traditional Hawaiian religion and culture its roots in the religions of southern Polynesia. As successive waves of migration reached the Hawaiian Islands, the newcomers either added their own practice to the existing religious practices, tried to supplant the existing religions, or practiced their own religions separate from the existing religions. The traditional Hawaiian religion can vary significantly between islands, districts, and family groups. This is an example of enviornmental determinism as well as distance decay

Papa / Haumea - goddess, Earth Mother who created the world(s) and islands
Pele - goddess of lava, volcanoes, and fire. Known to be quick to anger, and to punish those who disturb the natural lay of the land.
