Rant (The Futureheads album)

Rant is the fifth studio album by Sunderland-based indie rock band The Futureheads. It was released on 2 April 2012 in the United Kingdom. Unlike the band's four previous records, the album was recorded entirely a cappella and features near to none instrumentation apart from vocals. The bonus track 'Hanging Johnny' was included with the digital pre-order release from the band's website, and is 1:18 in length.

Magicians (2007 film)

Magicians is a 2007 British comedy film released on 18 May 2007. It stars comic duo Robert Webb and David Mitchell as stage magicians Karl and Harry. The two magicians compete together in a magic competition, despite their personal differences. Parts and ideas of the film have been taken to parody the 2006 film The Prestige by Christopher Nolan, though this had not been released when Magicians was filmed (though the original novel by Christopher Priest had been published in 1995). The film is directed by Andrew O'Connor and written by Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain, who are also the writers of the Channel 4 sitcom Peep Show, which stars Mitchell and Webb. Other principal cast members include Jessica Hynes, Darren Boyd, Steve Edge, Peter Capaldi, and Andrea Riseborough.

Plot

Barry and Stuart

Barry and Stuart (Barry Jones and Stuart MacLeod) are two Scottish BAFTA nominated magicians and comedians whose work has been seen on television and on stage around the world. The double act are known for their comically dark performing style, for taking as inspiration the accounts of Biblical miracles and faking paranormal phenomena to form the basis for some of their illusions.

Biography

Jones was born on 16 April 1982 in Aberdeen and grew up in Portlethen, Scotland. MacLeod was born on 4 July 1980 in Aberdeen and grew up in Peterhead, Scotland. MacLeod attended Peterhead Academy before studying philosophy and psychology at Aberdeen University, while Jones grew up in Old Portlethen, before moving to London to study multimedia computing.

They met in Aberdeen in 1994 and started making videos of themselves performing magic. This is where their double act style of acting out scenes in character while performing illusions developed. The filmed results of these magic sketches eventually reached a television production company and led to the making of their first TV series "Magick. The show was nominated as Best Comedy Series at the Rose d'Or international television awards in Montreux in 2004.
