19/08/2016 50th year celebration in Northern Territory of Vincent Lingiari's protest in which he led workers off Wave Hill Cattle Station. Workers were fed up from working 16 hours a day and being paid in beef, bread and tobacco. The protest led to a land rights claim.
Check out our video of Wave Hill, the best gardens in NYC. This was shot on a Saturday visit in spring 2016. Family Art Project is an event they host every weekend where families to art project together, you will see this as well as their gardens throughout this video. Our family has had the opportunity to travel and experience quite a bit the first few years of our daughter's life. We had the luxury of time to do this. For those who don't have time there is tremendous pressure to make sure the time you do have to explore with your family is best used. I've created a blog and videos of some of our adventures and tried to cover a lot of details so you can see if it's the right excursion for your family. I've found these adventures to be a lot of work yet incredibly rewarding, sometime more...

Wave Hill Station is a beautiful 5000 hectare working beef cattle property. Here you can enjoy your bass fishing, horse-riding and camping. There are three main areas to camp including the bottom Gorge site, Back Channel site and and Kings camp site. All areas are set near the Clarence River Gorge and require 4WD vehicle to access. All camping areas are 9km from the homestead at the entrance and take approx. 1hr to get to. There is plenty of firewood lying around for you to use and there are primitive drop toilets at all three campsites. This is a wonderful place to spend some time camping. Here is a good few stones to add to the treasure chest
These historical photographs tell the story of the longest strike in Australian history. The indigenous workers on the Wave Hill cattle station were treated as virtual slave labour by the Vestey company. In 1966, led by Vincent Lingiari, more than 200 workers and their families walked off Wave Hill station to Watties Creek where they lived for nine years. During this time, Australian unions and other organisations and individuals provided financial, practical and moral support to the Gurindji strikers. On the 16th of August 1975, some traditional land was returned the Gurindji people by Gough Whitlam, then Prime Minister of Australia, who poured a handful of sand into Vincent Lingiari’s hands. The Walk Off marked the beginning of the modern land rights movement in Australia. The ACTU w...

Episode 8 is here! Chef Plum is back on the road, this time visiting Wave Hill Breads in Norwalk with his buddy Andrew Dominick (of Westchester Magazine and Food Dudes). In addition to seeing what goes into making the artisan delicacies from Wave Hill Breads, there's also a great, late-summer salad for viewers, and an impossibly cute cameo from Tim Topi's niece (who secretly runs the bakery).
The 50th anniversary of the Wave Hill Walk Off has highlighted the struggles faced by Indigenous people half a century ago. But the Gurindji people are now looking to the next fifty years and beyond ... to ensure the next generation can overcome the obstacles faced by their ancestors.
Thousands of people have marched to remember a strike that sparked the Aboriginal land rights movement. 50 years ago two hundred stockmen walked off the Wave Hill cattle station in protest... against atrocious conditions. In a historic victory the Gurindji people demanded their land back - and they got it. == I filed this photo from Kalkarindji, 800km from Darwin, and it lead ABC News bulletins across the country including in Sydney and Melbourne.

Wave Hill House was built as a country home in 1843. In 1903, George W. Perkins, a partner of J.P. Morgan, purchased Wave Hill House, adding to the properties he had been accumulating along the river, including the adjacent villa on the site of what is now Glyndor House. In 1960, the Perkins-Freeman family deeded Wave Hill to the City of New York. to all the years full of front porch stories
failed plans and procrastination
to r.a.g.n. sowing what others may implore
i've been broke and forlorn and caught out with the best at acca yard
oh it just goes to show, to desert friends like these streets
i would be crazy
to all the years full of backyard parties
winters in hibernation
to assaulting views with dominion at our door
healing but scarred
there's bullet holes in a porch in jackson ward
oh it just goes to show, to desert friends like these streets
i would be crazy
it goes to show, to dessert friends like these streets
i would be crazy
i sat back to consider what has been within a decade counted
should i fly? should i settle?
will i find peace in time, in the face of growing old?
to all the years full of untold stories
futures free of isolation
to all those gone who in thought and heart live on
on and on you never gave up and i got this far
oh it just goes to show, with friends like these to leave
i would be crazy
it goes to show, with friends like these to leave
