The Jat people^{[pronunciation?]} are a community of traditionally non-elite tillers and herders in Northern India and Pakistan. Originally pastoralists in the lower Indus river-valley of Sindh, Jats migrated north into the Punjab region in late medieval times, and subsequently into the Delhi Territory, northeastern Rajputana, and the western Gangetic Plain in the 17th and 18th centuries. Of Muslim, Sikh, and Hindu faiths, they are now found mostly in the Pakistani provinces of Sindh and Punjab and the Indian states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Traditionally involved in peasantry, the Jats took up arms against the Mughal Empire during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The community played an important role in the development of the martial Khalsa panthan of Sikhism. The Hindu Jat kingdom reached its zenith under Suraj Mal of Bharatpur (1707–1763). By the 20th century, the landowning Jats became an influential group in several parts of North India, including Punjab,Western Uttar Pradesh,, Rajasthan,Haryana and Delhi. Over the years, several Jats abandoned agriculture in favour of urban jobs, and used their dominant economic and political status to claim higher social status.

The Jat people are a historical Indo-Aryan community native to North India and the Punjab province of Pakistan. The Jats have been known to claim membership in the 36 royal races, but this is contested. The following is a list of notable Jats.

Alexander III of Macedon (20/21 July 356 – 10/11 June 323 BC), commonly known as Alexander the Great (Greek: Ἀλέξανδρος ὁ Μέγας, Aléxandros ho Mégas from the Greek αλέξω alexo "to defend, help" + ανήρ aner "man"), was a king of Macedon, a state in northern ancient Greece. Born in Pella in 356 BC, Alexander was tutored by Aristotle until the age of 16. By the age of thirty, he had created one of the largest empires of the ancient world, stretching from the Ionian Sea to the Himalayas. He was undefeated in battle and is considered one of history's most successful commanders.

Alexander succeeded his father, Philip II of Macedon, to the throne in 336 BC after Philip was assassinated. Upon Philip's death, Alexander inherited a strong kingdom and an experienced army. He was awarded the generalship of Greece and used this authority to launch his father's military expansion plans. In 334 BC, he invaded Persian-ruled Asia Minor and began a series of campaigns that lasted ten years. Alexander broke the power of Persia in a series of decisive battles, most notably the battles of Issus and Gaugamela. He subsequently overthrew the Persian King Darius III and conquered the entirety of the Persian Empire. At that point, his empire stretched from the Adriatic Sea to the Indus River.

Seema Mustafa (b 20 April 1955) is an Indian journalist. She is the formerPolitical Editor and Delhi Bureau Chief of The Asian Age newspaper published in India. Her op-ed column appeared on Saturdays. These were syndicated to several newspapers, including The Deccan Chronicle from Bangalore, India and The Dawn newspaper of Pakistan. With the sacking of Asian Age editor M.J. Akbar over the defence of an anti-Congress, anti-Indo-US Nuclear Deal op-ed written by Seema, Seema resigned from the Asian Age as well. She then joined Newsx as national affairs editor and head of the national bureau. She hosted a weekly interview programme, Straight Talk With Seema Mustafa. She is now Resident Editor, The Sunday Guardian, New Delhi, a paper launched by M.J. Akbar.

Seema Mustafa‏ was born in Delhi on April 20, 1955. She is agnostic She graduated with a BA in Political Science from Lucknow University in Uttar Pradesh. Seema's father Lt Col Syed Mustafa was in the Indian Army and she is related to the socialist freedom fighter Rafi Ahmed Kidwai from her mother's side. Rajya Sabha MP Anis Kidwai was her grandmother from her mother's side. Seema has two elder brothers, SP 'Bobby' Mustafa, Hindustan Unilever Ltd’s group treasurer and head of M&A , and Kamal Mustafa, now retired but once the Managing Director & Head of Global Mergers and Acquisitions for Citybank. She was married to a businessman from Delhi and has two children, Agneya Singh and Gayeti Singh.
