Boyd Jarvis

Boyd H. Jarvis (born 1958) is an American record producer, remixer and musician, best known for his song, co-written with Jason Smith, "The Music Got Me"; released in 1983 by Prelude Records. He has musically collaborated with artists such as Herbie Hancock, La Toya Jackson and Johnny Kemp.

In 1990, Jarvis sued Robert Clivillés and David Cole of C+C Music Factory for copyright infringement over their song "Get Dumb", which illegally incorporates parts of "The Music Got Me".

He currently resides in New Jersey with his wife and continues to write, record, and produce music under his label, CFX Records.

History

Boyd Jarvis started his career as an intern for renowned professor of Anthropology Pearl Primus, training under Sandra Ross in theater lighting and set design where he went on to design lighting for shows in Lincoln center, Perry Street theater, and Riverside church theater. Training himself in music and applied Synthesis architecture, Boyd has become a legend within the underground and commercial music industry. He is an award winning writer and music producer and has been cited as one of the original creators of what's now known as house music. Known as an innovator in music production & remixing, he has worked with many of the recording industries icons, including Timmy Regisford, Merlin Bobb, Prince, Madonna, Herbie Hancock, Ah Ha and Boy George, discovered Colonel Abrams just to mention a few. Boyd is currently working with some of the top producer Dj's such as Joe Claussell, Louie Vega, Dave Morales, Francois Kevorkian. As a recipient of the prestigious Lions Award his list of international advertising clients have included, Jamie Guan (Master Guaun) Of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Maxwell House Coffee and Vivident Gum as will as numerous others. Mr. Jarvis has 24 years of experience in diverse areas of the artistic and production process coupled with an innate expertise in marketing and sales.

The Music

The Music were an English alternative rock band, formed in Kippax, Leeds in 1999. Comprising Robert Harvey (vocals, guitar), Adam Nutter (lead guitar), Stuart Coleman (bass) and Phil Jordan (drums), the band came to prominence with the release of their debut album, The Music, in 2002. The band released two further studio albums, Welcome to the North (2004) and Strength in Numbers (2008), before parting ways in 2011.

Career

The Music all met at Brigshaw High School, except Phil Jordan who went to Garforth, and began playing in 1999 as Insense. In 2001 the song "Take the Long Road and Walk It" circulated as a demo before being released by Fierce Panda as a 1000-copies-only single, a rarity from its day of release. Around this time the NME and Steve Lamacq were describing them as the best unsigned band in Britain. The band were quickly signed by Hut, who released their first EP You Might as Well Try to Fuck Me.

In 2002, following another EP (The People) they released their eponymous début album which reached No. 4 in the UK album charts. Their début single was re-issued as part of a two-disc set to promote the album, and reached No. 14 in the singles chart. Two further singles from the album, "Getaway" and "The Truth is No Words" reached No. 26 and No. 18 respectively. June 2003 saw them filling in for an absent Zwan on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival.
