VLC media player (commonly known as VLC) is a portable, free and open-source, cross-platform media player and streaming media server written by the VideoLAN project. VLC is available for desktop operating systems as also mobile platforms as Android, iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. VLC is also available on App stores such as Apple's App Store.
VLC media player supports many audio and video compression methods and file formats, including DVD-Video, video CD and streaming protocols. It is able to stream media over computer networks and to transcode multimedia files.
The default distribution of VLC includes a large number of free decoding and encoding libraries, avoiding the need for finding/calibrating proprietary plugins. The libavcodec library from the FFmpeg project provides many of VLC's codecs, but the player mainly uses its own muxers, and demuxers. It also has its own protocol implementations. It also gained distinction as the first player to support playback of encrypted DVDs on Linux and OS X by using the libdvdcss DVD decryption library.
Ubuntu releases are made semiannually by Canonical Ltd, the developers of the Ubuntu operating system, using the year and month of the release as a version number. The first Ubuntu release, for example, was Ubuntu 4.10 and was released on 20 October 2004. Consequently, version numbers for future versions are provisional; if the release is delayed until a different month (or even year) to that planned, the version number will change accordingly.
Ubuntu releases are timed to be approximately one month after GNOME releases, which are in turn about one month after releases of X.Org, resulting in each Ubuntu release including a newer version of GNOME and X.
Every fourth release, in the second quarter of even-numbered years, has been designated as a Long Term Support (LTS) release, indicating that they are supported and receive updates for five years, with paid technical support also available from Canonical Ltd. However the desktop version of LTS releases before 12.04 were supported for only three years. Releases 6.06, 8.04, 10.04, 12.04 and 14.04 are the LTS releases. Non-LTS releases prior to 13.04 have typically been supported for 18 months, and have always been supported until at least the date of the next LTS release. This has changed, however, for 13.04 and subsequent non-LTS releases, with the support period being halved to 9 months.

Annodex is a digital media format developed by CSIRO to provide annotation and indexing of continuous media, such as audio and video.
It is based on the Ogg container format, with an XML language called CMML (Continuous Media Markup Language) providing additional metadata. It is intended to create a Continuous Media Web (CMWeb), whereby continuous media can be manipulated in a similar manner to text media on the World Wide Web, including searching and dynamic arrangement of elements.
The specific design of the elements of the Continuous Media Web project were invented by Silvia Pfeiffer and Conrad Parker at CSIRO Australia in mid-2001. Some of the ideas behind CMML and the generic addressing of temporal offsets were proposed in a 1997 paper by Bill Simpson-Young and Ken Yap.
In January 2002 the Annodex team took on two students, Andrew Nesbit and Andre Pang, along with Simon Lai who became the first person to author meaningful content in CMML. During this time the basics of the Annodex technology were designed, including the design of temporal URI fragments, the basic DTDs, the choice of the Ogg encapsulation format and the initial design of the libraries.

An awesome example of the use of Javascript and AJAX for a unique and interesting shopping experience.
The advent of the DAW has moved most audio production tasks into a virtual environment in a computer workstation, this has given us a great amount of flexibility but has robbed us of the vast range of knobs and controls we've grown accustomed to. Our new studio is like a Tardis - small on the outside, but massive inside - and all of this is only accessible through a keyboard and mouse. In my talk, I'll show some of the circuits I'm building and demonstrate ways in which we can regain control of our art, using MIDI and OSC to interface external hardware and software into our virtual studio. We'll cover some of the traditional approaches and challenges and will speculate on some future directions worth following. by Euan de Kock http://www.annodex.org/events/lca2014_mmm/pmwiki.php/Main/Tim...

The creators of the Ogg format state that it is unrestricted by software patents and is designed to provide for efficient streaming and manipulation of high quality digital multimedia.
When using separate digital recorders to capture different aspects of an event or session, it is ideal that all units share a common clock. Unfortunately the hardware to enable this is expensive. Manual synchronisation during post-production is possible but tedious. This talk discusses some approaches towards automated synchronisation with reference to some proof of concept software which has been written for this purpose. by Jonathan Woithe http://www.annodex.org/events/lca2014_mmm/pmwiki.php/Main/Timetable#jwoithe
WebRTC is enabling a revolution of web-based communications, but it can be tricky to get started. We've developed a toolbox of modules to enable Web application developers to make use of peer-to-peer audio, video or data functionalities. The modules can be used as JavaScript libraries, but are easiest deployed using node.js. See https://www.rtc.io/ for more information. In the spirit of WebRTC this presentation will be given remotely. by Silvia Pfeiffer http://www.annodex.org/events/lca2014_mmm/pmwiki.php/Main/Timetable#silvia

Fire burning in a hill
The lines are rocky rough
Red angels wait to pick remains
The cindered shoulder
Of confused men
Separate from them, their awe
With gray desire
He looks out mad
His soft gray indigo eyes
Indigo eyes, asking
His heaven is uncovered not
A black tree blocks his way
His way is skating round a dome
His way is in dismay
The playmate sings
Like Orphee in some thunder world
Asking to be bathed in light
To be exemplified
Like Orphee in some thunder world
Asking to be bathed in light
To be exemplified
With gray desire
He looks out mad
His soft gray indigo eyes
Indigo eyes
Saw his past
He had dug for trust
With blind infected hands
And wondered as the hurt bit hard
Why the sacred weren't at hand
Only when his ears were deaf
To the angels light burst waves
Only when his ears were deaf
Did life turn from fog to fog
But not evil but estranged
But not evil but estranged
Indigo eyes
Indigo eyes
Indigo eyes
Indigo eyes
With gray desire
He looks out mad
His soft gray, indigo eyes
