Levite
In Jewish tradition, a Levite (/ˈliːvaɪt/, Hebrew: לֵוִי, Modern Levi, Tiberian Lēwî ; "Attached") is a member of the Israelite Tribe of Levi, descended from Levi, the third son of Jacob and Leah.
The Tribe of Levi served particular religious duties for the Israelites and had political responsibilities as well. In return, the landed tribes were expected to give tithe to support the Levites, particularly the tithe known as the 'Maaser Rishon'. The Kohanim were the priests, who performed the work of holiness in the Temple. The Levites who were not Kohanim played music in the Temple or served as guards.
When Joshua led the Israelites into the land of Canaan (Joshua 13:33), the Sons of Levi were the only Israelite tribe that received cities but were not allowed to be landowners "because the Lord the God of Israel Himself is their inheritance" (Deuteronomy 18:2).
In contemporary Jewish practice
Today, Levites in Orthodox Judaism continue to have additional rights and obligations compared to lay people, although these responsibilities have diminished with the destruction of the Temple. For instance, Kohanim are eligible to be called to the Torah first, followed by the Levites. Levites also provide assistance to the Kohanim, particularly washing their hands, before the Kohanim recite the Priestly Blessing. They also do not participate in the Pidyon HaBen (redemption of the firstborn) ceremony, because they are traditionally pledged to Divine service. Conservative Judaism recognizes Levites as having special status, but not all Conservative congregations call Kohanim and Levites to the first and second reading of the Torah, and many no longer perform rituals such as the Priestly Blessing and Pidyon HaBen in which Kohanim and Levites have a special role. Reconstructionist and Reform Judaism do not observe the distinctions between Kohanim, Levites, and other Jews.

נעימות ושירות מן המסורת היהודית מקבלים לאורך השנים יותר ויותר מקום בתרבות הישראלית, בעולם זוכה התרבות היהודית להכרה בקרב אוכלוסיות רבות אשר מתחברות אל היהדות מסיפורי התנ"ך ומשירי הנשמה המסורתיים.
"הלוויים" הינו הרכב זמרי נשמה ראשון מסוגו המשלב שירים מהמסורת היהודית באווירה חדשה המלווה באלמנטים של מוזיקת עולם.
לצורך הקמת ההרכב ערך לייבל TETA אודישנים לזמרי נשמה שומרי מסורת. מתוך ראיונות של מאות אנשים, נבחרו מספר זמרים בעלי מנעד קולי מרשים, קולות גדולים שהם הרבה מעבר לזמרי נשמה.
החיבור בין חברי ההרכב משלים האחד את השני ויחד, הם מרכיבים את פרויקט "הלוויים".
שבט לוי הוא חלק מסיפורו של עם ישראל, אחד מתוך 12 שבטי ישראל.
על פי התורה נבחר שבט לוי בידי ה' לעבוד ולשרת בבית המקדש.
The Levites-
A Jewish soulful choir group that sings music from the Jewish tradition and roots in high standards and modern production with World music atmosphere. Songs and melodies from the Jewish tradition gain more and more popularity I the Israeli culture along the years. In the world, the Jewish culture is being recognized by many populations that connect to Judaism from the Bible stories and the traditional Jewish songs. Teta had conducted numerous auditions to traditional Jewish soul singers. Few, with an impressive vocal chords, vocals which big far beyond soul singing, vocals that completes each other in a perfect harmony, were chosen to form the Ensemble of The Levites.
The tribe of Levi is one of the twelve tribes of Israel. The tribe of Levi was chosen from all tribes to carry the Ark of the Covenant to serve before God. The Levites were responsible of the important role of singing and playing music in the Temple, a work that was in fact an integral part of the holy service.

Why were the Levites chosen for the priesthood and the ministry of the Tabernacle? The reason why they were chosen was because they zealously and violently defended the true worship of Yahweh. When the people of Israel were mixing with Canaanite women and worshipping the golden calf, the Levites slew and killed the idolatrous and wicked Israelites who refused to repent. Moses specifically said that the Levites dedicated themselves to Yahweh by killing their Israelite brothers and Fathers. Today we don't use physical violence but we should use spiritual zeal and violence to oppose false teaching and idolatry in the church. Jesus told us to beware of false prophets.

It's even been called one of the "texts of terror". In this video we take a look at what's really going on and explain this crazy and messed up tale from the book of Judges.

Last week, during the intermediate days of Sukkot, the Temple Institute's Levitical Choir joined dozens of other musical Levites in a festive performance of Psalm 27. The Temple Institute's Levitical Choir performers can be recognized by their Levitical uniforms, and, of course, the silver trumpets are those reproduced by the Temple Institute. The concert was a joint production of The Temple Institute, the East Jerusalem Development Company, the Municipality of Jerusalem, and others.
The performance took place on the steps leading up to the ancient Hulda Gates on the Southern Wall of the Temple Mount, the gates through which thousands of pilgrims once ascended from the City of David to the Holy Temple.
"One thing I ask of HaShem, that I seek - that I may dwell in the house of HaShem all the days of my life, to see the pleasantness of HaShem and to visit His Temple all the days of my life."

הרכב נשמה יהודי חדש המשלב מוסיקה מן המסורת היהודית בהפקה מושקעת וחדשה באווירת מוסיקת עולם .
לייבל TETA מגיש פרויקט מוסיקאלי חדש בינלאומי "הלוויים".
נעימות ושירות מן המסורת היהודית מקבלים לאורך השנים יותר ויותר מקום בתרבות הישראלית, בעולם זוכה התרבות היהודית להכרה בקרב אוכלוסיות רבות אשר מתחברות אל היהדות מסיפורי התנ"ך ומשירי הנשמה המסורתיים.
"הלוויים" הינו הרכב זמרי נשמה ראשון מסוגו המשלב שירים מהמסורת היהודית באווירה חדשה המלווה באלמנטים של מוזיקת עולם.
לצורך הקמת ההרכב ערך לייבל TETA אודישנים לזמרי נשמה שומרי מסורת. מתוך ראיונות של מאות אנשים, נבחרו מספר זמרים בעלי מנעד קולי מרשים, קולות גדולים שהם הרבה מעבר לזמרי נשמה.
החיבור בין חברי ההרכב משלים האחד את השני ויחד, הם מרכיבים את פרויקט "הלוויים".
שבט לוי הוא חלק מסיפורו של עם ישראל, אחד מתוך 12 שבטי ישראל.
על פי התורה נבחר שבט לוי בידי ה' לעבוד ולשרת בבית המקדש.
The Levites-
A Jewish soulful choir group that sings music from the Jewish tradition and roots in high standards and modern production with World music atmosphere. Songs and melodies from the Jewish tradition gain more and more popularity I the Israeli culture along the years. In the world, the Jewish culture is being recognized by many populations that connect to Judaism from the Bible stories and the traditional Jewish songs. Teta had conducted numerous auditions to traditional Jewish soul singers. Few, with an impressive vocal chords, vocals which big far beyond soul singing, vocals that completes each other in a perfect harmony, were chosen to form the Ensemble of The Levites.
The tribe of Levi is one of the twelve tribes of Israel. The tribe of Levi was chosen from all tribes to carry the Ark of the Covenant to serve before God. The Levites were responsible of the important role of singing and playing music in the Temple, a work that was in fact an integral part of the holy service.

In Jewish tradition, a Levite (/ˈliːvaɪt/, Hebrew: לֵוִי, Modern Levi, Tiberian Lēwî ; "Attached") is a member of the Israelite Tribe of Levi, descended from Levi, the third son of Jacob and Leah.
The Tribe of Levi served particular religious duties for the Israelites and had political responsibilities as well. In return, the landed tribes were expected to give tithe to support the Levites, particularly the tithe known as the 'Maaser Rishon'. The Kohanim were the priests, who performed the work of holiness in the Temple. The Levites who were not Kohanim played music in the Temple or served as guards.
When Joshua led the Israelites into the land of Canaan (Joshua 13:33), the Sons of Levi were the only Israelite tribe that received cities but were not allowed to be landowners "because the Lord the God of Israel Himself is their inheritance" (Deuteronomy 18:2).
In contemporary Jewish practice
Today, Levites in Orthodox Judaism continue to have additional rights and obligations compared to lay people, although these responsibilities have diminished with the destruction of the Temple. For instance, Kohanim are eligible to be called to the Torah first, followed by the Levites. Levites also provide assistance to the Kohanim, particularly washing their hands, before the Kohanim recite the Priestly Blessing. They also do not participate in the Pidyon HaBen (redemption of the firstborn) ceremony, because they are traditionally pledged to Divine service. Conservative Judaism recognizes Levites as having special status, but not all Conservative congregations call Kohanim and Levites to the first and second reading of the Torah, and many no longer perform rituals such as the Priestly Blessing and Pidyon HaBen in which Kohanim and Levites have a special role. Reconstructionist and Reform Judaism do not observe the distinctions between Kohanim, Levites, and other Jews.
