CANADIAN PM VISIT TO MALAYSIA : AHMADIYYA MUSLIM COMMUNITY
CANADIAN PM VISIT TO MALAYSIA : AHMADIYYA MUSLIM COMMUNITY
8 October 2013 OPEN LETTER TO CANADA'S OFFICE OF RELIGIOUS FREEDOM Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada PERSECUTION OF AHMADI MUSLIMS IN MALAYSIA Background The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Malaysia has been declared to be outside the pale of Islam by the National Council of Islamic Affairs of Malaysia in 1975. This declaration (fatwa) has increased the victimization and discrimination which members of the community had experienced even before that time. Implications of this Fatwa This fatwa is very dangerous because some radical/extremist voices have declared that the blood of Ahmadi Muslims is "halal" (permissible) and that Muslims are enjoined to kill them because they have been declared "murtad" (apostates). The religious authorities of Selangor state have put up large billboards with the words "Qadiani Bukan Ajaran Islam" (Qadiani Not Islamic Teaching) around the Ahmadiyya centre in Kampung Nakhoda, Selangor. The putting up of these billboards has led to several incidents where members of the public have shouted abuse and threw things into the centre's compound. The community has not been given permission to build its house of worship while its centre in Selangor has been given notices forbidding it to conduct Jummah (Friday) prayers. The community has made several attempts to obtain permission to build a proper house of worship in Selangor but have been rejected because the religious department views the community as a deviationist group that threatens national security. The community has called for a public dialogue where it can give accurate information regarding its teachings to the government, security agencies, the mass media and the public, but the Selangor religious department has not welcomed this. By Ainul Yakin M.Zain Missionary In-charge Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Malaysia 11 A, Jalan Kampung Nakhoda Kanan, Kampung Nakhoda, Batu Caves, 68100 Selangor Darul Ehsan,Malaysia. INVEST IN REMARKABLE INDONESIA 2013
INVEST IN REMARKABLE INDONESIA 2013 Situated between the Indian and Pacific Ocean, Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world. Its surface area of 1,905 thousand square kilometers is comprised of more than 17,000 islands, lending Indonesia the nickname of "The Emerald of the Equator". Indonesia's geographic location has blessed it with a rich landscape, from fertile rice lands in Java and Bali to the luxuriant rainforests of Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi, to the savannah grasslands of the Nusa Tenggara islands to snow-capped peaks of West Papua. Indonesia is home to more than 28,000 flora species from tiny rare orchid to giant Raflesia flower. It is also one of the most diverse variants of fauna species, including the endangered orangutans of Sumatera and Borneo, the unique giant lizard of Komodo, the horned Java Rhinoceros and Sumatera tigers. Currently a dynamic USD 1.1 trillion economy, Indonesia reached an economic growth of 6.5% in 2011—the highest in 15 years. Its Foreign Direct Investment was USD 19.5 billion that same year. Approximately 60% of Indonesia's GDP comes from domestic consumption, cushioning Indonesia from global economic uncertainty. Meanwhile, investment growth has reached 20.53% in 2011. Opening its doors for trade and investment even wider, Indonesia's regions are grouped into six economic corridors where each is specialized in areas where it has competitive advantages—from natural resources, industrialization and services, mining and energy reserves, agriculture fisheries, plantations, oil and gas, to tourism. With 240 million people of more than 350 ethnic groups speaking more than 600 regional dialects, Indonesia's demography is richly steeped in culture. More than half of the population is younger than 29 years old and about 25 million are considered urban middle class. While holding on to tradition, the population is also highly modern and wired. There are more than 155 million real subscribers of mobile phone, 36 million Facebook users (world's 2nd largest after the US) and the 6th largest Twitter users in the world In 1994, Indonesia became the birthplace of the APEC Bogor Goals: liberalized trade and investment by 2010 for industrialized economies and by 2020 for the developing economies. Almost 20 years after, Indonesia has taken significant part in contributing to the development, maintaining the commitment towards the cause. This year's APEC CEO Summit's theme of "Towards Resilience and Growth: Reshaping Priorities for Global Economy" could not have been more apt as Indonesia again is honored to play host to APEC. Indonesia bounced back from the 1998 economic crisis to currently become the 16th largest economy and is an emerging and growth-leading economy (EAGLE), with a projected growth to become the 7th largest in 20 years' time.- published: 22 Aug 2013

Poland-Indonesia relations: Not just about red and white #poland #indonesia
Poland-Indonesia relations: Not just about red and white More news follow @newsdailyplanet Separated by geographical distance, Poland and Indonesia have much in common. The two nations use identical colors of red and white for their flags, and their respective histories are full of wars for independence and maintaining national unity. Without much fanfare, relations between the two countries have survived world and regime changes, since they were first established in the late 1950s. The fight against climate change has bound them even closer. Indonesia and Poland, as well as Denmark, are playing a pivotal role in creating a new international commitment to reducing global emissions. Poland will host the UN conference on climate change in December, which is expected to result in an action plan to implement the Bali road map agreed to in last year's conference in Indonesia. "We have enjoyed sound and vibrant relations so far," says Maciej Orzechowski of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the Polish Parliament (Sejm). However, nothing special has really happened with regard to bilateral ties, except for formalities, following the fall of Indonesia's founding president Sukarno in the mid-1960s until after Poland broke away from the communist bloc in 1990. That the European and Asian nations have kept their friendship, if not intimacy, intact until today is because of great contributions from the likes of former Polish ambassador to Indonesia Andrezeja Nusantara Wawrzyniaka. Since leaving his post in Jakarta in the early 1970s, he has maintained contact with numerous Indonesian figures, ranging from government officials to artists, and persistently promoted Indonesian and Asian cultures. The Indonesian government, through former president Soeharto, conferred upon him a medal in recognition of his efforts to help preserve bilateral relations. Indeed, an Indonesian atmosphere pervades his house-museum in Warsaw. Paintings by noted Indonesian artists the late Affandi, Srihadi, Popo Iskandar, Nyoman Gunarsa, and souvenirs adorn the building. "I don't know why I fell in love with Indonesia. It's not something I can explain," he says, recalling his close encounter with diverse Indonesian cultures during his posting to the country more than three decades ago. His middle name, given by president Sukarno, speaks volumes of his Indonesian connection. There is a kind of personal link between him and Indonesia, and the country remains one his regular destinations when going overseas.- published: 07 Sep 2013

Ahmed Kathrada on the overwhelming effect of illness on Mandela
. Ahmed Kathrada was Nelson Mandela's friend of 67 years, and his companion in prison on Robben island. However, the two didn't always see eye to eye. In the early 1950s, they clashed over the issue of cooperation between the various organisation opposed to apartheid. Nelson Mandela, at the time, believed the ANC should focus its efforts exclusively on the interests of black South Africans. Ahmed Kathrada disagreed.
