10.11.2013 Tottenham 0-1 Newcastle: Tim Krul 'over the moon' with win After producing an inspired display at White Hart Lane, Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul believes the Magpies' 1-0 win against Tottenham is "a major three points" for the club. Loic Remy's early strike gave Newcastle the lead, but Krul thwarted all Spurs' efforts to draw level, making 14 saves in the match, more than any other keeper in the Premier League so far this season. Afterwards, Newcastle boss Alan Pardew described the Dutch keeper as "one of the best in the Premier League".- published: 10 Nov 2013

Alan Pardew Post Match Interview - Manchester City 4-0 Newcastle United [19.08.2013]
19.08.2013 New Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini enjoyed a dream Premier League start as his side swept past 10-man Newcastle with a superb display. City began at a frantic pace with an energised Edin Dzeko crossing for David Silva's early opener. Sergio Aguero steered a shot past Tim Krul for City's second before Steven Taylor saw red for a swipe at Aguero. Yaya Toure curled in a free-kick after the break before Samir Nasri scored late on as City cruised to victory. It was a resounding performance by an irrepressible-looking City, with summer signings Fernandinho and Jesus Navas handed starts and appearing accomplished throughout. Fellow debutant Alvaro Negredo also came on in the second half and was denied a goal after being ruled marginally offside. Indeed, had Krul not been in inspired form, the margin of victory could have been even greater for Pellegrini's side, who have won their last eight games against the Magpies. Although the new additions adjusted well, it was Dzeko who was City's outstanding performer as he created two goals and peppered the Newcastle goal with several efforts. City have been the biggest spenders in the close season, investing nearly £87m on four new players, and their performance at a buoyant Etihad Stadium will give their Premier League title rivals plenty to consider with the transfer window shutting on 2 September. In contrast, Newcastle suffered a nightmare start to their campaign, and the mood of Newcastle manager Alan Pardew will hardly have improved after Arsenal made a £10m bid for midfielder Yohan Cabaye in the build-up to the game, with the Frenchman being left out of the squad. The hosts, whose only sour note was losing captain Vincent Kompany with what looked like a groin injury, could easily have been two goals to the good before they went ahead. First, Aguero, and then Dzeko, drew fine saves from Krul after penetrating runs down the right by Pablo Zabaleta, who signed a new four-year contract before the game. Pellegrini only had to wait until the sixth minute of his Premier League bow to see his team take the lead, though. Dzeko was involved again as he collected Silva's through ball down the left side of the penalty area and crossed for the Spaniard to head home after the ball took a deflection off Taylor's shoulder. Newcastle, who only secured their Premier League status in their penultimate game of last season, could not cope with City as the hosts poured forward with pace and width. The combination of Moussa Sissoko and Cheick Tiote in centre midfield gave the Magpies back four little protection and Dzeko dragged another chance wide before he cleverly set up City's second goal after 22 minutes. The visitors were actually on the attack but Kompany dispossessed Yoan Gouffran, before surging to the other end of the pitch. The Belgian's driven pass was then flicked on by Dzeko and Aguero took it in his stride before outpacing Taylor and finding the bottom corner beautifully. Pellegrini pumped his fists in celebration to an enlightening start to his City career. Hatem Ben Arfa was an isolated threat for Newcastle, who were limited to Gouffran's effort being ruled out for offside and Tiote's long-range shot being comfortably saved by Joe Hart. And if the gulf between the two sides was not enough during the first half, it got worse for Pardew's side just before the break. Jonas Gutierrez went off injured and then Taylor received his marching orders for swinging at Aguero as the pair challenged for a high ball. Krul, who had an outstanding evening, denied Dzeko twice in the second half, saving a point-blank header and then a 25-yard shot. But he could do little to stop Toure's free-kick as the Ivorian curled it into the top corner five minutes after the restart following a trip on Aguero. Newcastle's misery was complete when Zabaleta's pass made its way through to substitute Nasri, who fired past a helpless Krul. Newcastle boss Alan Pardew: "The performance up until the sending off was pretty sound. The two goals City scored, they have a lot of talent, but we threatened their goal and we looked like we could get something. "But it was a silly act from Steven Taylor and he has apologised to the lads. "Goalkeeper Tim Krul was fantastic and needed to be because Manchester City will not lose many games this season. At the end of the day we have just lost two games, nothign else, and have two home games coming up now."- published: 19 Aug 2013

Alan Pardew - Newcastle 2-3 Hull City [21.09.2013]
21.09.2013 Sone Aluko's stunning volley gave Hull victory over Newcastle in a highly entertaining encounter. Loic Remy gave the hosts the lead when he headed home from Papiss Cisse's miscued shot at the back post. Robbie Brady levelled with a low effort before Remy scored his second when Yohan Cabaye's shot fell into his path. Brady's free-kick was glanced in by Ahmed Elmohamady shortly after the restart and Aluko won it with a superb finish from 18 yards. After a slow start to the season - the Magpies did not manage a shot on target in their first two outings - Alan Pardew's side came into this match on the back of successive league wins over Fulham and Aston Villa. Hull have made a steady start to their first season back in the top flight after three years in the Championship, having picked up four points from their opening four games. The hosts began the game in confident mood and went ahead in the 10th minute when Moussa Sissokho's cross to the back post was hit into the ground by Cisse. His attempted shot turned into the perfect ball for Remy to head home. The goal was deserved reward for Pardew's side, who made a bright start to the match as they looked to secure a fourth successive win in all competitions. However, they started to allow errors into their game and, after goalkeeper Tim Krul did brilliantly to deny Danny Graham from a Brady cross, they conceded their first goal at St James' Park this season. Newcastle failed to clear following the Dutchman's stop and, with the defence out of position, Aluko threaded a neat pass to the excellent Brady, who struck a low shot through the legs of Krul for his third goal of the season. Steve Bruce's side had chances to take the lead but Graham, looking for a first league goal since New Year's Day, failed to control a Tom Huddlestone pass when in on goal before Jake Livermore saw his shot well blocked by Matthieu Debuchy. Newcastle went back in front against the run of play just before the break in fortuitous circumstances. Cabaye's shot from 25 yards hit Hull defender James Chester and Remy confidently slotted home his second. The goal was harsh on the visitors but they responded well and levelled once more. Aluko was fouled by Vurnon Anita and, from the resulting free-kick, Brady found the unmarked Elmohamady, who saw his header go in off the post. With Remy tiring and Cabaye forced off after a heavy challenge from Curtis Davies the hosts began to run out of ideas and they fell behind to Aluko's brilliance. From George Boyd's cross, Nigerian Aluko superbly guiding his effort in off the same post as Elmohamady's header. As the game entered five minutes of injury-time Remy had the chance to score his third but he fired wide from six yards out and Hull held out for a first away win of the season. Newcastle boss Alan Pardew: "We started really, really well but then we dropped down a gear after our goal and that caused us problems for the rest of the game. Third gear is not enough in this league against any side. "You look for consistency and this team is a good team but we lack a bit of consistency and that is what gets you results. "I have to pay tribute to Hull, they did a lot of things very well today. We had a chance to pinch a point but it just fell to Loic Remy a bit quick. "We have to regroup and make sure we're ready for the next one." Hull City boss Steve Bruce: "I'm absolutely delighted I have to say. I've been really happy with the way we've played all season. "We created a lot of chances today and we thoroughly deserved our win. "I'm a Geordie at the end of the day and I've always enjoyed coming back, apart from last time (when his Sunderland side lost 5-1 to the Magpies) but today was very satisfying. "George Boyd did wonderfully well and Aluko's shot went in off the post. I think he can light up this league."- published: 21 Sep 2013
