On December 26, 2013 the prime minister of Japan, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe made a visit to the Yasukuni Shrine, a Shinto shrine in Tokyo, Japan.

This visit by the Prime Minister of Japan to a shrine in Tokyo erupted in complaints from South Korea and China. It seems like some people in South Korea and China awarded themselves the authority to dictate to the people in Japan what places they are not allowed to visit in Japan. In other those in South Korea and China who feel they have this authority are absolute idiots.

The Yasukuni Shinto shrine is dedicated to the soldiers and others who died on behalf of Japan, registering near two and a half million names enshrined dating back to 1867. A visit to this shrine by foreigners and notable Japanese brings with it scathing criticism from some neighboring nations. Their complaint is out of the two and a half million spirits honored at the Yasukuni Shrine; around one thousand were convicted as war criminals by the International Military Tribunal for the Far East (IMTFE or known as Tokyo Trails or Tokyo War Crimes Tribunal). Should be noted the legitimacy of tribunal is in question by many.

Here is what is interesting: During World War Two Japan occupied around twenty-four nations and battled around twelve Allied nations. Out of the twenty-four occupied and twelve Allied nations, only two nations (China and South Korea) object to any official visitation to the Yasukuni Shrine.

Japan has approved the relocation of a US military airbase on its southern island of Okinawa, officials said.

The governor, Hirokazu Nakaima, agreed to landfill work to develop a new base in a less densely populated part of the island, officials said.

The agreement is a breakthrough following years of deadlock over where a new US base should be placed.

The US has around 26,000 troops on Okinawa under a long-standing security alliance with Japan.

However, the bases are unpopular locally and there is growing pressure from residents for the US military footprint to be reduced.

The US Futenma airbase will now be relocated to a new site near Nago, a less densely populated area in the North of the island.

The move comes after years of negotiations. In 1996, Japan and the US agreed to close the Futenma airbase.

However, Okinawa\'s local government had been opposed to building a new base on the coast.

Some critics have demanded that the US airbase move out of Okinawa prefecture completely and the decision has already prompted furious reactions.

Subscribe to our channel United States has warned Afghans about an impending economic slump after its pull-out by 2014. Aid money would also dry up with the withdrawal of foreign troops. Afghanistan\'s economy is largely dependent on foreign aid. But Kabul does not seem worried, as the Afghans are boosting the state industry instead of sustaining the economy. These Afghan products have been recently exhibited here in Kabul. The exhibition was opened by President Karzai. Doing this, he sent a message to US that their withdrawal won\'t affect Afghan economy. He welcomed their pull-out. Karzai is now relying on regional countries to help his country stand on its own feet. He called on Iranian, Indian and Pakistani businessmen to invest in Afghanistan. They are being promised protection. But unrest continues to hamper investment. This juice factory has been operating in Kabul for the last 2 years. It has employed over 500 people. BBC News Turkey PM Erdogan condemns dirty corruption probe Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has denounced a corruption inquiry as a "dirty operation" against his government. Some 52 people - including three sons of cabinet ministers - were arrested in dawn raids on Tuesday in connection with a high-profile bribery inquiry. Five police chiefs who oversaw raids in Istanbul and Ankara were sacked for "abuse of office", Mr Erdogan said. "We will not allow political plotting," the prime minister said. However, the deputy prime minister promised not to stand in the way of the judicial process. Commentators in Turkey believe the arrests - and subsequent firings - are evidence of a new dramatic fault-line in Turkish politics, one within the AK Party itself, the BBC's James Reynolds reports. The feud is believed to involve supporters of Fethullah Gulen, an influential Islamic scholar living in exile in the US who once backed the ruling AK Party, helping it to victory in three elections since 2002. Members of Mr Gulen's Hizmet movement are said to hold influential positions in institutions from the police and secret services to the judiciary and the AK Party itself. In recent months, the alliance began to come apart and in November the government discussed closing down private schools, including those run by Hizmet. Mr Gulen has been living in the US since 1999, when he was accused in Turkey of plotting against the secular state. 'Abuse of powers' The five police commissioners sacked include the heads of the financial crime and organised crime units, who were both involved in the earlier arrests, the Turkish daily Hurriyet reports. Also dismissed were the heads of the smuggling unit, the anti-terrorism branch and the public security branch, the paper says. In a brief statement, the police said they had reassigned some staff, in some cases due to alleged misconduct and others "out of administrative necessity". James Reynolds: "A challenge from within his own party by an organised movement may pose much more of a threat to the Prime Minister" The mass arrests were carried out as part of an inquiry into alleged bribery involving public tenders. The sons of Interior Minister Muammer Guler, Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan and Environment Minister Erdogan Bayraktar were among those detained. Police also raided the Ankara headquarters of one of Turkey's biggest banks, state-run lender Halkbank, and the headquarters of a large construction company owned by tycoon Ali Agaoglu. Police searching the home of detained Halkbank general manager Suleyman Aslan have found $4.5m (£2.7m; 3.2m euros) in cash hidden in shoe boxes in his library, Turkey's Dogan news agency reports. The arrests were made as part of three separate investigations, according to Hurriyet An inquiry into allegations of a crime ring involving Azeri businessman Reza Zarrab (arrested), in which cabinet ministers were bribed in order to cover suspicious money transactions to Iran through Halkbank, and to obtain Turkish citizenship An inquiry into Abdullah Oguz Bayraktar (arrested), son of the environment minister, on suspicion that he set up a crime ring and accepted bribes from major firms in exchange for construction permits in areas under the ministry's supervision An inquiry into allegations that protected areas of Istanbul's Fatih district were developed illegally in return for bribes and that district mayor Mustafa Demir (arrested) allowed the construction of a hotel, ignoring negative reports from engineers and state institutions There was no response to the allegations by those arrested.

Japan Approves Relocation Of United States Military Airbase
Japan Approves Relocation Of United States Military Airbase
  • Order:
  • Duration: 1:57
  • Updated: 27 Dec 2013
However, Okinawa's local government had been opposed to building a new base on the coast. Some critics have demanded that the US airbase move out of Okinawa prefecture completely and the decision has already prompted furious reactions. "What the governor has done is unforgivable,'' Yuichi Higa, head of the assembly in Nago, where the new base is to be built, is quoted as saying by the Associated Press news agency. "Residents who are opposed will surely resort to the use of force, such as blocking roads to stop this from happening," he adds. The decision is politically difficult for Mr Nakaima who was re-elected in 2010 opposing the relocation of the base on Okinawa. Mr Nakaima's decision came after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met him on Wednesday to urge him to agree to a new base. Mr Abe pledged an economic stimulus package to Okinawa every year until 2021. There has been a US military presence on Okinawa since the Americans invaded the island during World War II.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's Special Representative for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Roger Meece, confirmed today (12 July) that UN attack helicopters had engaged "very actively and very robustly" against rebel forces in the eastern DRC. Meece told reporters in Kinshasa that the use of the attack helicopters was "in the context of seeking to do all possible" to protect the civilian population against the advances of the M23 rebel faction. He said the peacekeepers were seeking "information available from all sources" and working in close collaboration with the Congolese Armed Forces (FARDC) "to try to determine the actual intentions and movements of forces of the M23 and therefore to take the necessary and corrective measures in terms of whatever their intentions may be." The Special Representative pointed out that "there have been numerous instances" in the past where the peacekeeping forces, "have used the combat helicopters as well as surface troops and armoured vehicles and other means" to protect the civilian population. The rebel group, known as M23 and composed of renegade soldiers who mutinied in April, is reportedly led by Bosco Ntaganda, an army general wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges of war crimes for recruiting and using children in combat in the DRC's north-east in 2002-2003. Along with the neighbouring province of South Kivu in eastern DRC, North Kivu province has witnessed increased fighting between Government troops and the M23, which has displaced more than 100,000 people, including many who have fled to neighbouring Rwanda and Uganda. In calls with the leaders of Rwanda and the DRC, the Secretary-General yesterday expressed grave concern over reports that the M23 is receiving external support.

Subscribe to our channel United States has warned Afghans about an impending economic slump after its pull-out by 2014. Aid money would also dry up with the withdrawal of foreign troops. Afghanistan's economy is largely dependent on foreign aid. But Kabul does not seem worried, as the Afghans are boosting the state industry instead of sustaining the economy. These Afghan products have been recently exhibited here in Kabul. The exhibition was opened by President Karzai. Doing this, he sent a message to US that their withdrawal won't affect Afghan economy. French troops stand watch as African Union peacekeepers from Burundi secure an area where residents had been threatened by ex-rebels, in the Fouh neighborhood of Bangui, Central African Republic, Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013.
