A rifleman (abbr. Rfn) is a soldier in a light infantry unit who carries a rifled firearm. Although the infantry role had its origin with 16th century hand gunners and 17th-century musketeers and streltsy, the term rifleman originated in the 18th century. Entire regiments and bodies of troops were armed with the weapon. It later became the term for the archetypal common infantryman.
Units of musketeers originally developed to support units of pikemen. As firearms became more effective, the composition of these pike-and-musket units changed, until the pikemen were supporting the musketeers. The last pike regiments were dissolved by the 1720s as pikes were superseded with the invention of the bayonet, which replaced the pike, and in effect converted the musket into a pike for those situations where it might still be useful, such as following up volleys with a charge, or defending against cavalry.
Marines, also known as a marine corps and naval infantry, are an infantry force that specializes in the support of naval and army operations on land and at sea, as well as the execution of their own operations. In the majority of countries, the marine force is part of the navy, but it can also be under the army like the Troupes de marine (French Marines) and Givati Brigade (Israeli Marines), or form an independent armed service branch like the United States Marine Corps and Royal Marines.
Historically, tasks undertaken by marines have included providing protection from war while at sea, reflecting the pressed nature of the ships' company and the risk of mutiny. Other tasks would include boarding of vessels during combat or capture of prize ships and providing manpower for raiding ashore in support of the naval objectives.
With the industrialization of warfare in the 20th century the scale of landing operations increased; this brought with it an increased likelihood of opposition and a need for co-ordination of various military elements. Marine forces evolved to specialize in the skills and capabilities required for amphibious warfare.

The United States Army (USA) is the largest branch of the United States Armed Forces and performs land-based military operations. It is one of the seven uniformed services of the United States, and is designated as the Army of the United States in the United States Constitution, Article 2, Section 2, Clause 1 and United States Code, Title 10, Subtitle B, Chapter 301, Section 3001. As the largest and senior branch of the U.S. military, the modern U.S. Army has its roots in the Continental Army, which was formed (14 June 1775) to fight the American Revolutionary War (1775–83)—before the U.S. was established as a country. After the Revolutionary War, the Congress of the Confederation created the United States Army on 3 June 1784, to replace the disbanded Continental Army. The United States Army considers itself descended from the Continental Army, and dates its institutional inception from the origin of that armed force in 1775.

Welcome to the United States Marine Corps School of Infantry. The School of Infantry (SOI) is the second stage of initial military training for enlisted United States Marines after Recruit Training. Since the initial training pipeline is divided between coasts, Marines from areas east of the Mississippi River usually graduate from MCRD Parris Island and move on to SOI at SOI East (located at Camp Geiger, a satellite facility of Camp Lejeune in North Carolina), while those from the western half of the nation attend MCRD San Diego and move on to SOI West at the Camp San Onofre area of Camp Pendleton in California. Female Marines are an exception, all of whom go through MCRD Parris Island and SOI East. The School of Infantry's training mission ensures "Every Marine is, first and foremost, a...

US ARMY INFANTRY "GRUNT VS POG" What is Army Infantry like? What to expect in the Army Infantry? Which one is better Grunts or POGS? What are the different Army mos/jobs? What is the difference between US ARMY INFANTRY to other ARMY MOS "Support MOS & Jobs". In this video Archiezzle talks about the difference between Army/Marine Corps Grunt compared to a POG. A Grunt is another term for the infantry or Infantrymen and POG stands for Personnel Other than Grunt which is every support MOS in the Army/Marines. I believe both of them need to work together in the Army/Marine Corps. Grunts and POGS are both vital pieces of the military.
