Abraham Lincoln i/ˈeɪbrəhæm ˈlɪŋkən/ (February 12, 1809 – April 15, 1865) was the 16th President of the United States, serving from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. He successfully led his country through its greatest constitutional, military and moral crisis – the American Civil War – preserving the Union while ending slavery, and promoting economic and financial modernization. Reared in a poor family on the western frontier, Lincoln was mostly self-educated. He became a country lawyer, a Whig Party leader, Illinois state legislator in the 1830s, and a one-term member of the United States House of Representatives in the 1840s. After a series of debates in 1858 that gave national visibility to his opposition to the expansion of slavery, Lincoln lost a Senate race to his arch-rival Stephen A. Douglas. Lincoln, a moderate from a swing state, secured the Republican Party nomination. With almost no support in the South he swept the North and was elected president in 1860. His election was the signal for seven southern slave states to declare their secession from the Union and form the Confederate States of America. The departure of the Southerners gave Lincoln's party firm control of Congress, but no formula for compromise or reconciliation was found. And the war came.
Carlos Ray "Chuck" Norris (born March 10, 1940) is an American martial artist and actor. After serving in the United States Air Force, he began his rise to fame as a martial artist and has since founded his own school, Chun Kuk Do. As a result of his "tough guy" image, an Internet phenomenon began in 2005 known as Chuck Norris facts, ascribing various implausible or even impossible feats to Norris.
Norris appeared in a number of action films, such as Way of the Dragon in which he starred alongside Bruce Lee, and was The Cannon Group's leading star in the 1980s. He next played the starring role in the television series Walker, Texas Ranger from 1993 to 2001.
Norris is a devout Christian and politically conservative. He has written several books on Christianity and donated to a number of Republican candidates and causes. In 2007 and 2008, he campaigned for former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, who was running for the Republican nomination for President in 2008. In the 2012 election he endorsed former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich. Norris also writes a column for the conservative website WorldNetDaily.
John Wilkes Booth (May 10, 1838 – April 26, 1865) was a famous American stage actor who assassinated President Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theatre, in Washington, D.C., on April 14, 1865. Booth was a member of the prominent 19th century Booth theatrical family from Maryland and, by the 1860s, was a well-known actor. He was also a Confederate sympathizer vehement in his denunciation of the Lincoln Administration and outraged by the South's defeat in the American Civil War. He strongly opposed the abolition of slavery in the United States and Lincoln's proposal to extend voting rights to recently emancipated slaves.
Booth and a group of co-conspirators originally plotted to kidnap Lincoln, but later planned to kill him, Vice President Andrew Johnson, and Secretary of State William Seward in a bid to help the Confederacy's cause. Although Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia had surrendered four days earlier, Booth believed the war was not yet over because Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston's army was still fighting the Union Army. Of the conspirators, only Booth was completely successful in carrying out his respective part of the plot. Seward was wounded but recovered; Lincoln died the next morning from a single gunshot wound to the back of the head.
John Wilkes (17 October 1725 – 26 December 1797) was an English radical, journalist, and politician.
He was first elected Member of Parliament in 1757. In the Middlesex election dispute, he fought for the right of voters—rather than the House of Commons—to determine their representatives. In 1771, he was instrumental in obliging the government to concede the right of printers to publish verbatim accounts of parliamentary debates. In 1776, he introduced the first Bill for parliamentary reform in the British Parliament. During the American War of Independence, he was a supporter of the American rebels, adding further to his popularity with American Whigs. In 1780, however, he commanded militia forces which helped put down the Gordon Riots, damaging his popularity with many radicals.
Wilkes's increasing conservatism as he grew older caused dissatisfaction among radicals and was instrumental in the loss of his Middlesex seat at the 1790 general election. At the age of 65, Wilkes retired from politics and took no part in the growth of radicalism in the 1790s following the French Revolution. During his life, he earned a reputation as a libertine.
Jeffrey Warren "Jeff" Daniels (born February 19, 1955) is an American actor, musician and playwright. He founded a non-profit theatre company, the Purple Rose Theatre Company, in his home state of Michigan. He has performed in a number of stage productions, both on and off Broadway, and has been nominated for the Tony Award as Best Actor for the Broadway play God of Carnage (2009), along with his other three cast-mates.
He has had a thriving film career, from his debut in 1981 in Ragtime, through State of Play in 2009. For his film work, he has received three Golden Globe Award nominations, including as Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture—Comedy/Musical for Woody Allen's The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) (hence the name of his theatre company). He has also received nominations by the Screen Actors Guild, Satellite Awards, and several others for his work in The Squid and the Whale (London Critics Circle Awards, Independent Spirit Awards, Chlotrudis Awards and Gotham Awards). He played Debra Winger's husband in the 1983 Oscar-winning film Terms of Endearment.
Abe Lincoln, God bless him
Did his best to end depression
Good thinker, smart talker
Very tall man, very fast walker
Oh, lord, what a shame
Got shot down by three white name
Abe Lincoln, where are you now?
RFK, God bless him
Did his best to end depression
Oh yeah, his brother too
Their hearts was big, though their blood was blue
Oh, lord, what a shame
Sirhan Sirhan had such good aim
Got shot down by three white name
Kennedy boys, where are you now?
In heaven
In heaven
In heaven
You’re in heaven now
In heaven
In heaven
In heaven
They’re in heaven now
MLK, God bless him
Malcolm X, God bless him
Mahatma Gandhi, God bless him
John Lennon, God bless him
Oh lord, what a shame
They got gunned down at the height of their fame
We need you, boy, where are you now?
Ronald Reagan, why oh why?
I would like
to go back in time and be your wife
not because I'd be the first lady
but because I think you're charming
I know you were an unhappy man
few marry old they say
but I could have made you a happy man
that laughed and danced and sang
And I
would have recited Shakespeare with you
let you read all the good lines
you could've been Iago and Othello
every time
I would have done your shopping for you
bought you your tall pants
I would've been presently affectionate
I would've put my hand in your long hand
and if I'd been on the balcony of Fords Theater
when Mr. Booth came up with gun in hand
I would've put my head in front of your head
I would've put my head in front of your head
Abraham Lincoln
I would like
to go back in time and be your wife
not because you saved the Union
but because I think you're hot shit
I know you were intelligent
telling stories all the time
and I bet we'd have the same sense of humor
we'd laugh until we cried
And I
would have spent hours combing your hair
putting every one in place
but if you got nervous and messed it up
it would have been okay
and we could have had
messy hair together
and we could have had
beautiful children together
but I would have been a perfect mother
to Eddie and Willie and Tad and Robbert
yeah I wouldn't of let them get the fever
or smallpox or malaria
and if I'd been on the balcony of Fords Theater
when Mr. Booth came up with gun in hand
I would've put my head in front of your head
I would've put my head in front of your head
and heck I wouldn't have made us go to the theater
yeah we could've stayed home and eaten dinner
and you could've resigned the presidency
devoted the rest of your life to me
yeah we could have left Oh, Washington forever
and we could have grown older and older together
but if I'd been on the balcony of Fords Theater
when Mr. Booth came up with gun in hand
I would've put my head in front of your head
