The Alabama Scenic River Trail, Alabama Power Company, the Auburn University Cooperative Extension Service and the Tallapoosa County Commission are working together to make the Tallapoosa River a prime paddling destination in Alabama. This brief video was made to announce Alabama Power's gift of campsites and portages to facilitate this effort.
Kayaking the Tallapoosa River at 7500 cfs. If you have never run this river before make sure you go with someone that knows the lines. Very dangerous if you don't know the lines.

This is the "chicken run" that bypasses the "Falls" in Tallassee. It was a fun stretch that moved pretty good even at relatively low water. There was a big ledge just before the islands that split the river that was a little difficult. The only spot with enough water to float over it had big rocks sticking up at the bottom daring you to try it. We just dropped over the ledge at the left shore and then we were set up to hit the chicken run. Just stay left of the islands.
This video is a low pass over the Tallapoosa river in my Phantom X-1 Ultralight. Music is John Denver's "The Eagle and the Hawk" which really captures the joy of flying.
July 19th, 2013. We put in at the bridge at Horseshoe Bend Park and took out at Boone Valley Road (very top of Lake Martin). The water was a little low according to two guys we met making the float at the same time. Took about 4-5 hours and as long as you chose good lines, you could make it through the shoals without dragging. Caught a few spots. This clip is a little over halfway down where a large power line crosses the river.
January playboating at Sticky Hole. Paddlers are Hunter and Kyle Katich. Music by Danny Brown. Filmed and edited by Thomas Williams.
Music Credit: Modest Mouse "Third Planet" We met at Coosa River Adventures in Wetumpka, AL on Friday May 4, 2012 at 10am and were on the water just below the Tallassee dam by noon. 16 miles Friday, 25 miles Saturday, and the remaining 10 provided a relaxing victory lap on Sunday morning.
