KFVS-TV is the CBS-affiliated television station for Southeastern Missouri, the Purchase area of Western Kentucky, and Southern Illinois that is licensed to Cape Girardeau, Missouri. It broadcasts a high definition digital signal on VHF channel 12 from a transmitter north of the city in rural Cape Girardeau County. Owned by Raycom Media, the station is sister to low-powered CW affiliates WQWQ-LP/WQTV-LP and the three share studios in the Hirsch Tower on Broadway Avenue in Downtown Cape Girardeau. Syndicated programming on KFVS includes: ''Everybody Loves Raymond'', ''Oprah'', ''The Dr. Oz Show'', and ''Live with Regis and Kelly''.
The majority of programming consists of local weather conditions and severe weather bulletins when issued. There is also news and information about Southeast Missouri State University and its activities. The university provides two minute updates, along with occasional longer programming, that airs on the channel.

Channel 12 was housed along with its radio sister until 1968, when it moved to its present location on Broadway Avenue. Hirsch sold the station to Aflac in 1979, earning a handsome return on his investment of 54 years earlier.
In 1997, Aflac sold its entire broadcasting division, including KFVS, to a group headed by Retirement Systems of Alabama. It, in turn, merged with Ellis Communications a few months later to form Raycom Media. KFVS offered The Tube Music Network (a 24-hour digital music video channel) on its third digital subchannel which ceased operations on October 1, 2007. The station ceased analog broadcasting and moved its digital signal to its original channel position on June 12, 2009.
KFVS serves more than 50 counties in four states including all of Southeastern Missouri, Southern Illinois, Western Kentucky, and Western Tennessee. The KFVS calls mean "Five States," since its former radio sister covers much of this area as well as portions of Northeastern Arkansas. However, KFVS has no coverage in that state since the DTV transition. A portion of its signal into the Missouri Bootheel overlaps with sister station and WMC-TV in Memphis, Tennessee and KAIT-TV in Jonesboro, Arkansas. KFVS refers to its viewing area as "The Heartland," which is included in WQTV/WQWQ's on-air branding.
KFVS' coverage area overlaps with KMOV in St. Louis. In fact, channel 12's over-the-air coverage extended as far east as the St. Louis suburb of Belleville, Illinois prior to the DTV transition. Cable outlets in several northern KFVS counties and southern KMOV counties carry both stations.
KFVS being a #1 News leader in it's area on July 22nd 2011, they announced that they where going to change to a new high definition news set with new graphics and HD Cameras very soon. They will be the second station to broadcast news in HD the First Being WSIL-TV 3.
Compared with the other big three stations in the market, KFVS has traditionally covered Southeastern Missouri more while the newscasts of ABC affiliate WSIL-TV focus almost exclusively on Southern Illinois. This is despite the fact that KPOB-TV in Poplar Bluff, Missouri operates as a full-time satellite. That channel does not maintain any bureaus in its area. NBC affiliate WPSD-TV offers the most coverage of Western Kentucky since it is based in Paducah. In addition to its main studios, KFVS operates a Southern Illinois Newsroom on East Plaza Drive in Carterville near WSIL.
At one point, KFVS produced a nightly half-hour prime time broadcast at 9 on WQTV/WQWQ known as ''Heartland News at 9''. The show focused exclusively on Southeastern Missouri and competed with prime time news on Fox affiliate KBSI that was produced by WPSD. That show provided a regional summary of coverage along with stories from Western Kentucky. ''Heartland News at 9'' was dropped after the July 29, 2007 edition and replaced with a rebroadcast of ''Oprah''. Currently, WQTV/WQWQ replay three weekday newscasts from KFVS. This includes ''The Breakfast Show'' (at 6:30 in the morning), ''Heartland News at Noon'' (at 1 in the afternoon), and ''Heartland News at 10'' (at 10:30 p.m.). The Sunday edition of ''The Breakfast Show'' is also repeated on those stations.
On October 1, 2010, ''Heartland News at 9'' was brought back after a news share agreement was established with KBSI. That channel now offers an hour-long prime time newscast every night at 9 originating from the KFVS studios. With that addition, this station offers more than thirty hours of local news each week. During weather segments, the station uses live NOAA National Weather Service radar data from several regional sites. This system is known on-air as "Storm Team Digital Doppler". KFVS also operates its own weather radar, called "Live StormTeam Radar", that is on top of the Hirsch building. It is an a Collins radar sold by ADC in Bloomington, Indiana and is the only live radar source in the market since the National Weather Service data is delayed.

David Charles Olney (born on March 23, 1948 in Providence, Rhode Island) is an American folk singer/songwriter. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill but did not graduate, instead joining Bland Simpson's band Simpson (band) in the early 1970s. He moved to Nashville in 1973 and formed the band The X-Rays, which gained a reputation during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Since then, he has performed as a solo singer/songwriter. His songs have been covered by Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle, Johnny Cash, Linda Ronstadt, and Laurie Lewis, among others. One of his most popular songs is called "Wait Here For the Cops," in which his partner, Sergio Webb, convincingly imitates a police siren on the guitar.

Demetri Martin (born May 25, 1973) is an American comedian, actor, artist, musician, writer and humorist. Martin is best known for his work as a stand-up comedian, contributor on ''The Daily Show'' and for his Comedy Central show ''Important Things with Demetri Martin''.
Since late 2005, he has been credited as a contributor on ''The Daily Show'', on which he has appeared as the named "Senior Youth Correspondent" and on which he hosts a segment called "Trendspotting". He has used this segment to talk about so-called hip trends among youth such as hookahs, wine, guerilla marketing and Xbox 360. A piece about social networking featured his profile on MySpace. On March 22, 2007, Demetri made another appearance on ''The Daily Show'', talking about the Viacom lawsuit against Google and YouTube.
He has recorded a comedy CD/DVD titled ''These Are Jokes'', which was released on September 26, 2006. This album also features ''Saturday Night Live'' member Will Forte and stand-up comedian Leo Allen.
Martin returned to ''The Daily Show'' on March 22, 2006, as the new Youth Correspondent, calling his segment "Professional Important News with Demetri Martin". In 2007, he starred in a Fountains of Wayne music video for "Someone to Love" as Seth Shapiro, a character in the song. He also starred in the video for the new Travis single "Selfish Jean", in which he wears multiple t-shirts with lyrics written on them.
On September 2, 2007, Martin appeared on the season finale of the HBO series ''Flight of the Conchords''. He appeared as a keytar player named Demetri.
He also had a part in the movie ''The Rocker'' (2008) starring Rainn Wilson. Martin played the part of the videographer when the band in the movie was making their first music video.
In 2009, he hosted and starred in his own television show called ''Important Things With Demetri Martin'' on Comedy Central. Later in June, it was announced his show had been renewed for a second season. The second season premiered, again on Comedy Central, on February 4, 2010. Martin has stated that ''Important Things'' will not return for a third season.
Prior to completing work on his second season, Martin starred in the comedy-drama film ''Taking Woodstock'' (2009), directed by Ang Lee, which premiered at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. In the film Martin plays Elliot Tiber, a closeted gay artist who has given up his ambitions in the city to move upstate and help his old-world Jewish family run their Catskill Mountains motel. The film is based on the book written by Tiber.
On April 25, 2011, Martin released his first book, titled ''This Is a Book''.
Martin also signed a blind script deal with CBS in October 2010 to produce, write, and star in his own television series.
After CBS was shown the pilot for the series, they decided not to air it.
On August 11, 2011, Fox ordered a presentation of a new animated show they might air.
The title of the special comes from a lengthy palindromic poem that Martin wrote; the words "if I" are at the center of the poem.
Martin moved to Santa Monica, California in 2009.

Arness attended John Burroughs Grade School, Washburn High School and West High School in Minneapolis. During this time, Arness worked as a courier for a jewelry wholesaler, loading and unloading railway boxcars at the James J. Hill's Burlington freight-yards in Minneapolis, and logging in Pierce, Idaho. Despite "being a poor student and skipping many classes", he graduated from high school in June 1942.
According to ''James Arness – An Autobiography'', he landed on Anzio Beachhead on January 22, 1944 as a rifleman with 2nd Platoon, E Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Regiment of the 3rd Infantry Division. Due to his height, he was the first ordered off his landing craft to determine the depth of the water; it came up to his waist.
On January 29, 1945, having undergone surgery several times, Arness was honorably discharged. His wounds continued to bother him, and in later years Arness suffered from chronic leg pain, which sometimes hurt when mounting a horse. His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze battle stars, the World War II Victory Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
Arness came to Hollywood by hitchhiking and soon began acting and appearing in films. He began with RKO, which immediately changed his name from "Aurness". His film debut was as Loretta Young's (Katie Holstrom) brother, Peter Holstrom, in ''The Farmer's Daughter'' (1947).
Though identified with westerns, Arness also appeared in two science fiction films, ''The Thing from Another World'' (in which he portrayed the title character) and ''Them!''. He was a close friend of John Wayne and co-starred with him in ''Big Jim McLain'', ''Hondo'', ''Island in the Sky'', and ''The Sea Chase'', and starred in ''Gun the Man Down'' for Wayne's company.
An urban legend has it that John Wayne was offered the leading role of Matt Dillon in the longtime favorite television show ''Gunsmoke'', but he turned it down, recommending instead James Arness for the role. The only part of this story that is true is that Wayne did indeed recommend Arness for the part. Wayne introduced Arness in a prologue to the first episode of ''Gunsmoke'', in 1955. The Norwegian-German Arness had to dye his naturally blond hair darker for the role. ''Gunsmoke'' made Arness world-famous and would run for two decades, becoming the longest running drama series in U.S. television history by the end of its run in 1975. The series' season record was tied only in 2010 with the final season of ''Law & Order''. Unlike the latter show, ''Gunsmoke'' featured its lead character in each of its twenty seasons; ''Gunsmoke'' also aired 179 more episodes, and was in the top 10 in the ratings for eleven more seasons, for a total of thirteen, including four consecutive seasons at number one.
After ''Gunsmoke'' ended, Arness performed in western-themed movies and television series, including ''How the West Was Won'', and in five made-for-television ''Gunsmoke'' movies between 1987 and 1994. An exception was as a big city police officer in a short-lived 1981 series, ''McClain's Law''. His role as Zeb Macahan in ''How the West Was Won'' made him into a cult figure in many European countries, where it became even more popular than in the United States, as the series has been re-broadcast many times across Europe.''James Arness: An Autobiography'' was released in September 2001, with a foreword by Burt Reynolds. Arness noted that he realized, "[I]f I was going to write a book about my life, I better do it now ... 'cause I'm not getting any younger."
This section's references:
Despite his stoic character, according to Ben Bates, his ''Gunsmoke'' stunt double, Arness laughed "from his toes to the top of his head". Shooting on the ''Gunsmoke'' set was suspended because Arness got a case of the uncontrollable giggles. James Arness disdained publicity and banned reporters from the ''Gunsmoke'' set. He was said to be a shy and sensitive man who enjoyed poetry, sailboat racing, and surfing. ''TV Guide'' dubbed him "The Greta Garbo of Dodge City". Buck Taylor (Newly on ''Gunsmoke'') thought so highly of Arness that he named his second son, Matthew, after Arness' character.
Arness died of natural causes at his Brentwood home in Los Angeles on June 3, 2011.
On the 50th anniversary of television in 1989 in the United States, ''People'' magazine chose the top 25 television stars of all time. Arness was number 6.
In 1996 TV Guide ranked him number 20 on it's 50 Greatest TV Stars of All Time list.
Arness was nominated for the following Emmy Awards:
