President Obama shook hands with his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro in a landmark moment for the two countries at Nelson Mandela\'s memorial service. As President Obama made his way onto the stage to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela - he extended his hand to Raul Castro - who shook it and smiled back. The handshake is a rare gesture between the leaders that reflects Nelson Mandela\'s spirit of reconciliation. The only previous known handshake between U.S. and Cuban presidents since the island\'s 1959 revolution was at the United Nations in 2000, when Raul\'s brother Fidel shook the hand of then-U.S. president Bill Clinton in a chance encounter. Report by Sarah Johnston.

Obama warns South Sudan over violence
US president says any effort to seize power by force will end support from international community.
US President Barack Obama has warned South Sudan that Washington and its allies would cut aid to the country over any attempted military coup, amid growing fears of civil war.

Obama also urged South Sudan\'s leaders to help protect US personnel and citizens in the conflict-ravaged country, after four US military service members were wounded when their aircraft were fired upon on Saturday during a mission to evacuate American citizens.

The Red Tide - Thailand - See the tense and troubled build up to the possible succession of the King, with the former prime minister fighting for control.

For downloads and more information visit:
http://www.journeyman.tv/60283/short-films/the-red-tide.html

The red tide thats just swept through Bangkok is just a hint of Thailands growing political tensions. As the succession day draws ever nearer, democracy and the royal institution grow further apart.

Long live the King and hope that he will be in good health to be our beloved King forever! Even with the massive people power of the red shirt demonstrations thronging through Bangkok, there is no denying the love felt for Thailands 82 year old King Bhumipol Aduyadej. Yet the wall of silence from the royal family is pushing some royalists away. Thailands strict laws of lese majeste, have forbidden open discussion regarding the Kings health...and Prime Minister, Abhisit Veijajiva, will only suggest that the crown prince , a man plagued by damaging rumours, will likely step into the Kings shoes. The laws of lese majeste, silenced former Prime Minister, Thaksin Shinawatrs allegations that palace insiders plotted a coup to throw him from power 2 years ago and have lent weight to a growing feeling that democracy is incompatible with Thailand\'s traditional institutions. As the recent protests show, Thaksin is determined to regain power, and the royal family will do anything to stop an opposition takeover. Thaksin wont go down by himself, says a political analyst, he will drag his enemies down with him and, in the process, Thailand.

Now nationalistic fervor is out of control and neither side is willing to back down. If push comes to shove, the US military has vowed to back Japan. But will things escalate to outright war? The lawyer, Vadim Klyuvgant, gave no details about the release or the latest whereabouts of Khodorkovsky The prominent Kremlin critic has spent more than a decade behind bars for embezzlement, fraud and tax evasion. He was once Russia's richest man and is considered by Kremlin critics to be a political prisoner. The decree pardoned him on the basis of "the principles of humanism". Putin said Khodorkovsky had asked for a pardon because his mother was ill, although Khodorkovsky's lawyers deny this. He has been held in a prison camp near the Finnish border, 300 km (200 miles) south of the Arctic Circle - Penal Colony No. 7 at Segezha, which was once part of the Gulag system of labour camps. Obama warns South Sudan over violence US president says any effort to seize power by force will end support from international community. US President Barack Obama has warned South Sudan that Washington and its allies would cut aid to the country over any attempted military coup, amid growing fears of civil war. Obama also urged South Sudan's leaders to help protect US personnel and citizens in the conflict-ravaged country, after four US military service members were wounded when their aircraft were fired upon on Saturday during a mission to evacuate American citizens. "Any effort to seize power through the use of military force will result in the end of longstanding support from the United States and the international community," the White House said in a statement following Obama's call with National Security Adviser Susan Rice and other top aides. Violence is escalating in South Sudan, which gained independence from Sudan in 2011, despite an offer from President Salva Kiir to open talks with his former deputy, Riek Machar, whom Kiir accuses of having started the fighting last week by attempting a coup. Machar denies a coup plot and in turn accuses Kiir of conducting a violent purge over the past week. His loyalists are now fighting the central government on several fronts. Civilians fleeing At least 500 people have been killed in the capital Juba alone in six days of fighting. Tens of thousands have been displaced, many seeking shelter at UN bases amid warnings that the impoverished nation was on the brink of all-out civil war. Juba's main bus park was crowded with people struggling to find space on public transport on Saturday, while foreigners have headed to the airport where several countries - including the US and Britain - have sent military transport planes for evacuations. Fighting has spread to Bor, which lies about 200km north of Juba and has been seized by rebels. South Sudan's army spokesman said an operation was under way to retake the town. "There is fighting, but we are supported by air units," Philip Aguer, spokesman for the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA), told the AFP news agency. Aguer said that in northern oil-producing Unity State, a key commander - Major General James Koang Choul - appeared to have defected to Machar's side. "We have lost contact with the commander... and there are reports he has joined the forces of Riek Machar," Aguer said while insisting that government forces were still in control of the area - something the rebels contest.

The Red Tide - Thailand - See the tense and troubled build up to the possible succession of the King, with the former prime minister fighting for control. For downloads and more information visit: http://www.journeyman.tv/60283/short-films/the-red-tide.html The red tide thats just swept through Bangkok is just a hint of Thailands growing political tensions. The laws of lese majeste, silenced former Prime Minister, Thaksin Shinawatrs allegations that palace insiders plotted a coup to throw him from power 2 years ago and have lent weight to a growing feeling that democracy is incompatible with Thailand's traditional institutions. As the recent protests show, Thaksin is determined to regain power, and the royal family will do anything to stop an opposition takeover. Thaksin wont go down by himself, says a political analyst, he will drag his enemies down with him and, in the process, Thailand. apollo theater collapses Apollo Theatre Balcony Collapse Causes Injuries (SkyNews) A rescue opearation is under way after part of a balcony or roof at London's Apollo theatre collapsed, leaving a "number of casualties". Fire crews and ambulances are at the scene and stretchers are being wheeled inside the theatre. Unconfirmed reports suggested some people may be trapped amid the debris. Eyewitnesses said some people were leaving the theatre bleeding. London Ambulance Service says there are about 30 casualties. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time was playing at the Shaftesbury Avenue venue. Eyewitnesses said they heard a creak prior to the collapse. Police confirmed they were called to the theatre shortly after 8.15pm. A spokesman said: "There is a report of a collapse in the building itself. It is believed some people may have been injured in the collapse." Martin Bostock, who was in the theatre, told Sky News: "I was in the stalls with my family in the early stages of the show. "I think the front part of the balcony fell down. At first we thought it was part of the show, it was very dramatic. "We got out with cuts and bruises, I think most people did." Simon Usborne, also watching the performance, told Sky News: "A huge crack happened ... and then my whole view of the stage was obscured by a huge cloud of dust. "I think everything in the front row of the stalls and the dress circle would have been showered with debris." Mr Usborne said people are being treated for head injuries. "There are a lot of people with blood on their faces," he added. "The Curious Incident of the Dog In The Night-Time is pretty popular with families and they have left in tears, they are pretty distraught." Twitter user Charlotte Rolt posted: "At the Apollo theatre and total mayhem when the roof just came down on us! We look like we've been down the mines!" More follows..
